So for tv show:

When the Street Lights Go On.
Really good and equally as sad.

Films …. Maybe Creep 2004, I just rewatched it all these years later. But maybe it’s not as obscure as I think.

Also a WW2 (I think) drama called Twenty Thousand Streets Under the Sky, set in working-class London. An early lead role for Sally Hawkins.

I remember that!

With Bryan Dick & Zoe Tapper.

Think she was a barmaid?

I remember -

Hunderby - no
Stressed Eric - no
Murun Buchtansanger - no
Dinosaurs - no
Follyfoot Farm - familiar name
The Tomorrow People - yes
Ace of Wands - no
Howards Way - yes, best theme tune ever, loved this series (and saw Barracuda in real life)
A Handful of Songs - yes
Chorlton and the Wheelies -yes
Busy Lizzie - heard of it
Noggin the Nog - yet
Fingerbobs - yet
The Woodentops yes
Pipkins - yes, puppet rabbit
Marked - no
Crown Court- yes, they should remake this

Now Get Out of That - is that ‘ now get out of there’ where teams from Cambridge and Oxford had a series of challenges. One was to get a land rover going, which was stuck in mud and out of petrol. However, it was actually diesel (or vice versa). Believe it was filmed at Leeds castle.

Yes, I think you’re right. I’d misremembered.

I know I mentioned it already but did anyone watch the British tv program Hex? I only ever found one other person irl who watched it. Still got them on dvd

Fescue · 19/09/2024 19:55

@redtrain123 I guess you would remember White Horses, Sebastian, The Cedar Tree? Also the Wheeltappers & Shunters Social Club?

AnnaSewell · 19/09/2024 19:56

Un Village Francais - currently on Rakuten TV. Quite brilliant.
From the past 'Watching' an ITV sitcom set in Liverpool.

Thewalrusandthecarpenter · 19/09/2024 19:58

Does anyone remember Maelstrom, mid eighties with scary dolls? I'm pretty sure that Avon from Blake's Seven was in the cast.

Paul Darrow.

And the actress who played someone Rolfe in Howard's Way

One Summer. Which starred a very young David Morrisey.
Haven't read the whole 19 pages, so apologies if it's already been mentioned.

Was going to mention this earlier. Around 1983 I think.

Some Australian daytime for anyone who was off school sick in the 80s -

The Sullivans
The Young Doctors
Country Practice

How about Knots Landing? A Dallas spin off.

Gorgonemilezola · 19/09/2024 20:22

Films - Babette's Feast, really atmospheric, hardly any dialogue. Based on an Isak Dinesen short story.
Crossing Delancy with Amy Irving and Peter Riegert. Very New Yorkish film about a woman looking for live and meets a pickle seller through a marriage broker.

TV - Australian series called Sea Change about a big shot city lawyer who moves to a small coastal town following a relationship breakup. We loved it and have never seen it repeated anywhere.

I LOVED Knots Landing!

The Didakoi and Carrie's War. Flambards (maybe an age thing I'm sure people of a certain age will remember.

Loved Flambards!
Had all the books as well.

The end of Carries War still brings a tear to my eye ….

redtrain123 · 19/09/2024 20:29

The Sullivan were huge at my school. We all used to go home at lunchtimes and watch it.

Mysterian · 19/09/2024 20:43

Star Crash. A terrible film. Hilariously terrible. Cheap Italian mad Star Wars rip off "starring" (only in half of it) David Hasselhoff. Massive plot hole, dreadful effects, bad acti...large parts devoid of any attempt at acting, made by people who had no knowledge of science or physics or how to make a film. The lead character, who they gave the subtle spacey name of Stella Star, does some good smouldering looks though.

Enjoy a clip.

Fescue · 19/09/2024 21:04

If anyone wants to watch a sci-fi film about a human astronaut who collides with an alien craft, get stranded on a desolate rocky planet, discovers the alien is a male reptilian humanoid who self-fertilizes and creates a special bond with it so they can look after its baby, then the film is called Enemy Mine.

If you have not heard of it, there is probably a very good reason.

$30m was chucked at it.

The Great Outdoors

  • only had a few episodes, and started Ruth Jones, about a group of ramblers. I really liked it.

Oh! I thought you meant the John Candy movie... "Big Bear Chase Me!"

Brimstone (1998) supernatural thriller crime drama

Moonlight (2007) Vampire drama
Blood Ties (2007) similar

Tru Calling (2003) premonition based drama

Reaper (2007) Ray Wise as the Devil comedy.

Loved Third Watch, not surprised to find many of them (actors) in Grey's Anatomy .. maybe a little surprised to find Bosco (Jason Wiles) in Criminal Minds 🤣

Tru Calling. Eliza Dushku. Stunning!
