For me, it’s using a Fortnum and Mason hamper basket as a piece of decor…

Is wanky shorthand for pretentious snob?

Yes. Yes, it is.

But back to the discussion in hand. Twice a year I pay a stupid amount in shipping to have a bag of pot pouri sent from Officina Profumo - Farmaceutica di Santa Maria Novella in Florence. Nothing else even comes close.

Seeing as it's Sunday, I will admit I came across a cheese board with 3 metallic knives that I bought donkeys years ago...still in the box.. .Never used cause our cheese just gets chucked on the chopping board and attacked with the nearest sharp knife...
Waste of money and a wanker.

I'm so achingly middle class that I don't even notice.

It's just my stuff. Dualit kettle (though is 20 years old) le creuset salt pig, pewter goblets for water (£6 for 4 charity shop). At the last count 6 fancy jugs. Black lab. Which is hilarious as I grew up working class and went to a shit school. Did well professionally and academically. Books and art everywhere.

DH is basically upper class and we kind of met in the middle.

DD named after a stunt fruit

Honestly I'd hate myself but I never really think about it. And half the stuff is hand me downs/charity shop.

DD named after a stunt fruit wins I think! Clementine?

I’m trying to guess the name of your DD now, Olive?

I shop in Lidl with a Harrods shopping bag.

Snap.

I do also like to talk about my pantry.

I think the fact that my cupboard under the stairs has a home made by my Dd sign on it saying The Pantry might make me a wanker? Shelves were put up in there along with a light and a herbs and spices rack during lockdown so I could buy enough food for the street to survive.

@Missmarple87 agree on champagne. I don't do 'bubbles'.
I see your grape scissors and raise you fish knives.

I have fish tweezers for removing the bones..

olive pitter
tomato hulled spoon
tomato knife
pickle grabber
avocado tool
little gadget for making circular enclosed sandwiches

most of Lakeland tbh

I reckon pineapple. Stunt pineapples are a classic.

I have an Alessi butter dish shaped like a boat. The butter needs to be oval shaped to fit inside. I drive over the border to France to buy my butter, because it fits the dish perfectly. 😳

It also has those delicious salt crystals though!

I’ve got that butter dish! But I just hack a chunk off a normal butter to put in it so probably fall short in the wanky stakes 😆

Does no one use their F&M hamper for actual picnics!!?? I do and revel in the wankyness of it!

I use mine to store crisps and other potato-based snacks.
I also go to France for Nuxe Creme Fresh skin plumper....
Well, when I say I go to France to buy it, this generally coincides with beuing holiday there!

Qualifications in email signature. Worked hard enough paid enough I'm keeping them 🤣

I have an 'honour' but only use this when writing to utility companies and the like, particularly when they are being arsey. I'm hoping they think it gives me some direct line to Chas and they will be worried about repercussions!

Me too, my people!!

im guilty of a couple of things mentioned here but im loving the ideas to improve my overall wankeryness 🤣

sometimes i stop myself doing/buying something wanky but this thread gives me courage to let my true wanker self shine through 🥹

Go, girl (sorry, assuming you are!)

Missmarple87 · 15/09/2024 10:18

I only eat President butter, wild caught salmon, proper earl grey, and champagne (no prosecco). (Well, I eat other things too obviously but refuse to budge on those).

All the standards - dualit toaster, le creuset, grape scissors.....

Grape scissors! Love it!

To add my contributions

  1. I've used F&B paint all through the house and when asked will bang on about much easier I find it to paint with.
  1. I have a selection of drinks out in the side. I don't really drink but I just love how they look on their silver tray, in their decanters and soft lighting.

You paint? You don't have a handyman??
Oh dear...
😀

No, it's another thread for people to say things they think make them look rich or classy.
Personalised numberplates and mentioning your husbands salary obv does that in an instant

The kill-joy fairy has pitched up to the party!

Uricon2 · 15/09/2024 10:54

I really, really want these!

Hands up to grape scissors (they are useful) and a Stilton scoop but that isn't really wanky as it cost about 6 quid off Amazon.

The stilton scoop is wankey if you only by a wedge of stilton!

What’s wrong with Ugg boots?

Ugh!
That's what's wrong!

Theredjellybean · 23/09/2024 06:17

I have bay trees in pots flanking the front door....the front door is down a narrow side path and we are on a windy seafront, so the barstarding things blow over a million times a day ...and the delivery men knock into them...but they stay due to my persistent wankeryness

A library AND old stables... Where do you live?! In the 19th century?! Although I would absolutely love to live during the 1800's but only if I was a wealthy person!

And only if antibiotics and modern medicine were invented then

lololulu · 23/09/2024 06:19

@Lwrenn I have the books in the 3rd photo. Never been read.

I have used an F&M hamper as decoration in the past. I used to put little pots of herbs in it, it looked lovely.
Now I go to a lot of trouble to scrub the labels off Sainsburys herb and spice jars and label them with chalk pens instead, so they look pretty on the little shelves that sit on the worktop.
I also decant shower gel and shampoo into brown plastic bottles with home made labels so they match the rest of the bathroom.
I think those are my most ridiculous wanky habits.

You could have just said chalk pens to win my vote!
I wish I had some now!

NashvilleQueen · 23/09/2024 06:23

There's quite a bit of stuff on here that I think is the antithesis of 'wanky' (Botox, private plates, Uggs etc).

NQOCDarling · 23/09/2024 06:24

SanMarzano · 15/09/2024 13:53

Jars of pulses and grains etc on display in glass jars in the kitchen. Unlabelled because obviously everyone can recognise which is the spelt and which is the pearl barley or whatever without needing a label. I do have Le Creuset casseroles visible too, but they’re on one of those IKEA trolleys rather than on the hob and mostly because they don’t fit in the cupboard. Fancy olive oil is not displayed because it needs to be protected from the light!

My jewellery is all either real gold/silver and stones, or something I bought in a small village whilst travelling somewhere wanky. I buy loads of art/stuff to display in the house when travelling so that I can wankily say ‘oh yes I got this in XYZ’, plus often nice food/drink. I’ve just come back from France with 3 types of salt (among other things). DH doesn’t understand 😂

And of course my MN username is pretty wanky!

You've named yourself after a tomato!! Love it
