What's True Pussycat? - Trump Thread #134

Spandauer · 13/09/2024 20:36

Non-fake, stable genius thanks to @Crucible for the new thread title.

Seniors' special today.*
They’re eating the dogs!
They’re eating the cats!
They’re eating the pets!...
So do you want fries with that cat? (*Apologies to non-MAGA seniors)

In other news, the swing states continue to be too close to call and it looks like it's going to be a nail-biting, buttock-clenching, hand-wringing 50 days to the election. (or thereabouts)
Increase your anxiety with this handy countdown 😭

Very sad. There are a small number of people who have got so rich that they've lost all perspective about what they should and shouldn't do. Bezos is one. Musk is another. The tech bros are others, and Trump is the useful idiot of at least some of them.

Camels and eyes of needles...

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 25/10/2024 20:46

I've just cancelled my subscription to the Washington Post. That is disgraceful. No impartiality to be found anywhere. Well, except in "The Onion", perhaps.

Talkinpeace · 25/10/2024 21:07

I have no paid subscriptions to daily Newspapers

I get multiple magazines every month including the Economist, Private Eye, New Scientist
but daily papers are pretty much toast

noodlezoodle · 25/10/2024 21:47

I'm a lurker but coming to the thread to say I too cancelled my WaPo subscription this morning, absolutely outraged.

I'm a Brit living in California so my vote doesn't really matter much, but you've all been making me feel better and I'm desperately trying to stay optimistic these last remaining days.

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 26/10/2024 07:13

In contrast to the Washington Post, there's this today from the New York Times.

Mind you, all the media should have been shouting this from the rooftops ever since he announced his candidacy this time around. Is it better late than never?

Opinion | What Donald Trump Would Do, in His Own Words

The former president’s most disturbing statements are not bluster. They are a road map to what he will do if elected again.

In case you hadn't seen this. I'm afraid that it's too little, too late.

We've known about this for years, though. Kelly first said it yonks ago. Back in May it was reported again, and nobody (except Snopes, who fact-checked it) thought it worth bothering about much.

In the 2022 book The Divider: Trump in the White House, journalists Peter Baker and Susan Glasser wrote about how Kelly once relayed to his associates that Trump had asked him: "Why can't you be like the German generals?" to which Kelly reportedly responded that German generals "tried to kill Hitler three times and almost pulled it off." According to Kelly, Trump then said: "No, no, no, they were totally loyal to him."

Depressing how little difference it seems to make.

You are so witty, like Chris 😝

Just read this today. So true.

“Kamala Harris and Donald Trump are not taking the same exam. And I think it bothers people. They’re not taking the same exam. He gets to be lawless. She has to be flawless. That’s what’s unfair.”

On the money!💰

AcrossthePond55 · 26/10/2024 18:48

To ALL my fellow Americans on this thread (or who come across it) who have voted or will be voting soon, I wish us ALL of us peace and calm over the next 10+ days. The endless ads are ramping up, and with all the shenanigans the Orange Buffoon and his cohorts are going to pull, who actually knows when we'll know the results of the election. We've done what we can (or will be doing it soon), all we can do now is pray, send positive thoughts, or whatever it is we need to do to maintain our sense of hope.

And to all on this thread who are not eligible to vote, I want to thank you all for supporting us and sharing your thoughts and 'vibes'. This place is a great place for all of us to vent, to rail against fate, and to support each other regardless of who we are and what country we're in.

Hands across the water.

Igotjelly · 26/10/2024 19:24

I truly hope in a couple of weeks time we can all take a collective sigh of relief ❤️ 🤍 💙

Crucible · 26/10/2024 21:12

@AcrossthePond55 this hand is across the water to you and all Americans..I'm watching and waiting and hoping.

I so agree with this. We hope against all hope the right decision (according to some of us) is made and there is a peaceful transfer.

Joining the hand back to you. I’m praying for America (just good wishes if you aren’t religious).
I have relatives who have voted but don’t live in swing states. Some just don’t want to be in the country so will be travelling over the time of the vote- good travels to any Americans in other parts of the world.

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 27/10/2024 06:39

I'm sure I'm not the only one wishing Michelle Obama were standing herself. Excellent speech.

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 27/10/2024 06:59

Quick question, anyone on here still on XTwitter and finding pure right-wing MAGA hatred filling your feed? Or am I just following the wrong people?

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 27/10/2024 07:02

I'm really concerned that the Joe Rogan interview with Trump has done a lot of damage in that it will have changed the minds of Republicans/fence-sitters who disliked Trump. That's certainly what I'm getting on my XTwitter feed now.

Spandauer · 27/10/2024 08:19

I'm still on Xwitter but don't seem to get right wing stuff directly in my feed. I only see the racist, fascist frothing if I dig into the replies to the politicians, pundits etc who I follow. I barely ever look at the "For You" side of the feed and only scroll through the "Following" side which seems to keep my feed relatively hate free.

There are armies of Russian-created bots churning out fake identities purporting to be undecided voters who are now going to vote for Trump but the lies are difficult to ignore if they're saying what would-be Trump supporters want to hear.

Michelle Obama's speech made me want to cry. That women are still having to fight to be heard and only have equal rights in 38 (?) states. The ERA is still not ratified or in the constitution but hey... guns.

I was feeling very pessimistic last week - but as the previous thread title said:
It's not over till the Cat Lady sings!

I have a second identity on Twitter one of which I use to wind up extreme right wingers, incels and racists. Because I actually engage with them under that identity I get much more right wing batshittery on that account than my main one. The stupidity levels on display are really quite alarming.

Wallaw · 27/10/2024 10:11

I'm not getting it in my Follow feed, but if I accidentally have it on the For You tab it's batshit. I've also noticed that if I look at the replies to people they're flooded with right wing batshit. Someone I was listening to the other day (it might have been David French) was commenting that if you're basing you're vision of the election on twitter, you're getting a very biased and non-representative picture. I don't know if it's true, but I'm choosing to believe it, for now, anyway.

I'm not sure the world has come across a problem like Elon before, though, and I don't know how we solve it in the long term.

I think the way to view Elon is in a similar vein to a Russian oligarch during the 90s.
