Unfortunately, he has an incredible amount of power, in a way that I think was unimagined and unimaginable in the 90s.

He's the richest man in the world, with a huge social media platform at his disposal and top level security clearance, all combined with narcissism (at best). His ability to influence the electorate is probably responsible for Trump's current success and his private conversations with Putin have already apparently tilted world affairs. IMO, he's more dangerous than Trump in the long term.

Just listened to Americast from today, they basically seem to think Trump has it in the bag and might even win the popular vote.

My twitter feed has quite a few MAGAs on it.

I read this morning that in some states early voting means that only 12% vote "on the day"
which is rather surreal to my mind

I haven't listened to it, but I'm not sure what they're basing that on? He could certainly win, but I don't think there are any strong indicators of that right now.

I think the tl/dr regarding the pollsters is that it's just too close to call and almost certainly will be on polling day too.

I bloody hope you (and he) are right! The thought of Trump, and to be honest almost more those around him being anywhere near power is really terrifying.

If I'm honest, Trump worries me less than the people who are now his puppetmasters, starting of course with Putin but also the many home-grown ones. Trump himself will become less and less relevant as he fades into completely incoherent senility.

I do agree with him that polls aren't particularly predictive, so I'm pretty much avoiding paying attention to them. Which might explain my potentially foolish optimism.

Watching more footage from last night's Trump rally and it really did have echoes of the Nazis. I want to hope it was so extreme it would turn off any lingering swing voters but honestly worry that all it will do is bring out his base.

I've only read about it, not watched it as I am tremendously faint-hearted. His base is all set to be brought out, whether he wins the election or not, so from that point of view, I don't think it will have changed anything. On the other hand, I saw in various places, and am quoting from takebackflorida on Threads.net, that: "Bad Bunny, J Lo, Ricky Martin, Luis Fonsi, and Marc Anthony have all endorsed @vp to their hundreds of millions of followers tonight after the Nazi Rally at Madison Square Gardens." I do hope that makes a difference!
There is so much rumour around everywhere, it is so hard to understand what the facts might be, particularly after almost a decade of MAGA lies masquerading as "truth because I choose to believe it, no matter the actual facts". Another thing I saw this morning, on Twitter, though I can't find the quote now, was (to paraphrase) that Trump knows he will lose and is just preparing the ground to be able to say again that the election was stolen from him. I don't know.

I've typed several posts this morning and then deleted them. It's horrific. Basically one sentence away from declaring the 'One Drop' rule would be reinstated.

I don’t agree with your politics at all. I’m Puerto Rican and a Trump supporter. I agree with what the majority of Trump‘s policies I don’t agree with everything he says nor the way he says it, but I do in general like what he does that being said. I am completely disgusted by the joke made by that comedian, it was not funny at all it was humiliating And completely disrespectful.
Unfortunately, Trump supporters can be cult like and they are defending this so called joke in the name of “comedy”. There are many Puerto Ricans that are Trump supporters and while we will still vote for Trump, we are highly offended. I am glad you’re calling this out. While the Trump campaign is said to have distance themselves from the joke and perhaps the comedian himself, I think Trump himself should denounce the joke. Thanks much appreciated.

For those interested Prof. Timothy Snyder is the latest guest on The Rest is Politics Leading podcast. It's an excellent episode covering of course Ukraine and the wider geopolitical picture but also what Snyder thinks would be the impact of a Trump presidency and why he considers Trump to be so dangerous. Would highly recommend it. Optimistically he does say he doesn't think Trump will win.

I hope the 'little secret' is not swing states planning to call electoral college votes for Trump, whatever the vote count is. I can't think beyond this as to what the next course of action would be, and I hope the Harris camp are prepared for anything like this
