What's True Pussycat? - Trump Thread #134

Non-fake, stable genius thanks to @Crucible for the new thread title.

Seniors' special today.*
They’re eating the dogs!
They’re eating the cats!
They’re eating the pets!...
So do you want fries with that cat? (*Apologies to non-MAGA seniors)

In other news, the swing states continue to be too close to call and it looks like it's going to be a nail-biting, buttock-clenching, hand-wringing 50 days to the election. (or thereabouts)

I look at it as meaning that when she wins you get a really good president, because as a woman of colour she's had to be so much better than all the other possible contenders.

InMySpareTime · 24/10/2024 18:41

Hopefully the polls will encourage dems to get out and actually vote, especially young voters doing so for the first time. It really does matter in quite a few places.

Can someone please post the link of the American guy who discussed politics from his shed or basement. He talks really slowly, is pretty wise and very soothing. Ring any bells? His content has been posted on this thread before.

Story of so many successful women and people of colour unfortunately.

So true, but I think it’s also (to an extent) true of whoever stands against Trump.

Biden is white and male and look at the standard that he was held to for mixing up words. Trump can barely string a coherent sentence together and uses the wrong word all the time. The people that criticise Biden for that generally don’t hold Trump to the same standard.

Beau is not doing his podcast at the moment; what you get is his wife, who is being called Belle.

namechangedtemporarily123 · 24/10/2024 22:17

That's him! Thanks. I'm hoping Belle is as soothing

Talkinpeace · 25/10/2024 15:22

I agree with the replies though.
The idea that anybody is truly undecided at this stage is fanciful.
Huge numbers have already voted.

Wallaw · 24/10/2024 13:34

And a shoutout to @SerendipityJane. I hope all has gone well and you're speeding to recovery!

We miss you here.

Careful - I can blub easily 😀

Operation done - the FUD beforehand being thankfully much worse than the procedure. Trying to take it easy now.

Not really posted on here, as not actually being American and with the day of judgement fast approaching, there's no more to say. Any result is going to be contentious, and a Trump win could be the signal to finish the job the Union started in 1860. But not in a good way.

I'm more concentrated that on 5th November I can reduce some of the meds I've been put on.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 25/10/2024 15:57

I'm all for reducing meds when possible, so I hope that goes well for you.

PerkingFaintly · 25/10/2024 16:29

Ah so good to see you out the other side, @SerendipityJane !

Don't want to make you blub, so bracing MumsNetty shoulder punch to you!

(But very gently, in case that's the bit that hurts...Smile)

Having had my eyeball frozen, so am I ...

Shoulder punch taken 😀- but it really isn't all about me ! On with the thread and hopefully the triumph of good - even though it will be temporary and tested.

BustingBaoBun · 25/10/2024 17:08

Good to see you back @SerendipityJane

Regarding the accuracy of the opinion polls, in the last two elections Trump has outperformed them. Pollsters typically adjust for shy voters - this was a big problem for them in the UK when the 1992 election was predicted for Labour but the Tories won by a comfortable 7% (and a less comfortable 12 seats.)

On a website I follow (full of ancient polling enthusiasts) it's been speculated that the Republicans have been releasing lots of polls showing Trump ahead in order to skew the averages calculated by the pundits: the hypothesis is that if Trump loses, it makes a claim of election theft more plausible. While said enthusiasts acknowledge there's no evidence the Republicans are doing this, or that it's skewing the predictions, it's thought there is more going on than meets the eye - Harris has just been in Texas, which is normally safe Republican. At this point, a candidate would concentrate on campaigning in states they knew they could win.

Yes, and there's also speculation that 'shy voter' syndrome might fall in Harris's favour this time as traditional Republican voters might not want to admit to friends and family that they're voting for a dem.

@SerendipityJane
Glad to see you back. If any of the meds you're reducing will help ease me through November 5, send them my way 😂

Wallaw · 25/10/2024 18:35

Yes, it's still safe Republican, but will get a lot of attention, which can't hurt, and could help Colin Allred with the very close senate race there. Winning that seat would be a huge for the Democrats.

This is our only hope

but the SCALE of the attack ads in swing states (I have family in PA) is utterly exhausting - every single ad break in every single programme

DuncinToffee · 25/10/2024 18:39

I see that the WaPo had written an endorsement for Harris and was ready to publish it before Jeff Bezos decided the paper would not endorse.

Yes, it's disgusting. Bezos is worried about his taxes, I guess. Particularly disgusting given the LA Times resignations over the same thing. I don't think it makes any real difference, though. Very few WaPo readers will be undecided. I might just cancel my subscription though.

Eyesopenwideawake · 25/10/2024 19:01

Well that's a saving. WaPo subscription cancelled, along with thousands of others if the comments section is to be believed.
