Extraordinary intervention from Donald Trump’s own former Chief of Staff John Kelly. The fmr general says Trump meets the definition of a fascist, would govern like a dictator and has no understanding of the Constitution or the concept of rule of law.

Kelly says: “Certainly the former president is in the far-right area, he’s certainly an authoritarian, admires people who are dictators — he has said that. So he certainly falls into the general definition of fascist, for sure.”

Kelly says Trump would not want to be pictured with amputee veterans saying that “it wouldn’t look good for me.” Kelly confirms Trump spoke positively of Hitler as president. “He commented more than once that, ‘You know, Hitler did some good things, too.”

Predicted Electoral College votes are now: Trump 271, Harris 267.

Since last week Trump has taken a wafer thin lead in Pennsylvania. Michigan, previously very slightly for Harris, had also become a dead heat but now the state is slightly favouring Harris once again.

I wonder whether this is the closest US presidential race in history but once again, polls have tended to understate Trump's support.

If Harris does win a majority of electoral college votes we can expect all manner of nonsense applications to the courts from Trump's acolytes to stymie the result.

I honestly don't get his appeal.

The gold markets seem to be pricing in a Trump victory and they’re usually a pretty good indicator of the direction of travel.

I saw the original Linkedin post (before she deleted her account) and it was pretty crass.
It certainly looked like they were going to be pushing the boundaries of US election law
at a time when Labour's energies would be better spent listing to UK voters

Various accounts I follow on various sites have covered the difficulty in getting accurate polling data now.
Landlines are less common, youngsters do not answer phone calls, people are trained to lie to stop scammers.
Those voting against local mood will stay quiet

I have seen a few accounts saying that the Trump campaign are expecting a bombshell negative story to be published within days.

Probably just wishful thinking

Will there still be a US electorate after a Trump win? He said that all people had to do was vote for him in November, and they'd never need to vote again.

I'm not sure what a negative bombshell story could be.

Or, to put it another way, there have been plenty of them, but they don't sink him.

Even if there was a story that might put his followers off him, Trump would just say it was fake news and they'd believe him.

The people who need to notice that he's poison are not his followers, who are a small minority of the electorate (not even a majority of the Republican Party). It's the other people involved, who will decide this election.

At this stage I honestly think a video of him doing just about anything could come out and have exactly zero impact. It’s depressing.

Not much to add at the moment. I can't see anything coming out about Trump now that would make a difference to anyone who is thinking of voting for him. The lies are relentless and this time around his administration (if he gets elected) will be staffed by people who have been vetted and confirmed as loyal and prepared to do his bidding. There will be no 'adults' in the room this time, steering him away from his worst ideas and desires.

Me neither but if anything it might impact the undecided voters.
