Non-fake, stable genius thanks to @Crucible for the new thread title.

Seniors' special today.*
They’re eating the dogs!
They’re eating the cats!
They’re eating the pets!...
So do you want fries with that cat? (*Apologies to non-MAGA seniors)

In other news, the swing states continue to be too close to call and it looks like it's going to be a nail-biting, buttock-clenching, hand-wringing 50 days to the election. (or thereabouts)

Has anyone seen the 60 minutes Harris interview? Just wondering how it might affect the voting….

General opinion is that she did what she needed to do and didn't mis-speak or mess up on 60 Minutes. She was pressed on immigration/border repeatedly. The interviewer didn't let her evade questions. The programme made a point of Trump declining the invitation to do an interview (candidates have traditionally done 60 Minute interviews pre-elections). It will be interesting to see if he changes his mind about debating again as a result of the coward taunts. (Probably not)

Harris's interview on the podcast Call Her Daddy (2nd most popular podcast in America) was well received. This podcaster predominantly focuses on women's issues and has a very varied (mostly female) audience. Hopefully she reached/persuaded some of the undecided women out there who (it is claimed) will decide the outcome of this election to cast their votes for her.

Not sure how the Howard Stern interview went but he has over 10 million listeners!

Meanwhile- Stephen Colbert broadcast last night.

Have I been living under a rock? I was convinced Howard Stern was long dead. I must have the wrong shock jock in mind!

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 09/10/2024 11:47

Do we think all the interviews @Spandauer mention in her most recent post are the beginning of the Harris/Walz media blitz which have been mentioned recently as the way they need to go to influence the undecided to vote for them?

I hope so! I think the podcast/social media interviews are a good idea. So many, particularly young voters, get their politics from short clips on social media and this is perfect for that.

I've been reading some horrifying stories of women with ectopic pregnancies having to risk their lives travelling to states where the doctors aren't too scared to perform what is, after all, literally life-saving surgery.

I just don't understand how any American woman can contemplate voting Trump and facing the prospect of that spreading throughout the US. He is literally planning to kill women.

tobee · 09/10/2024 14:12

Re Ch 4 coverage I can't believe Johnson will stick being on the show for very long and wouldn't be surprised if he ends up being a no show.

After they had Gogglebox people on UK election night I was expecting Ch 4 would have Bake Off contestants on US Election Night coverage.

This morning a lady I've known for >20 years told me that Hurricane Milton was man made by the government to stop Trump winning Florida.
She was not joking. She has believed the big lie.
I live in Hampshire in England !!

She'll have believed Farage's lies on the double-decker bus, then.

I was terrified just travelling the 5 miles to my local hospital when I thought (correctly) that I had an ectopic. I couldn't have got on a plane bleeding like that.

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov confirms to Bloomberg News that Trump sent COVID test machines to Vladimir Putin at the height of the pandemic.

It's horrifying.

And I have to say, the 'exceptions in cases of rape of incest' thing makes me absolutely rage. How do they propose deciding if a pregnancy is a product of rape or incest? A panel of elders? It's so easy for women to convince others they've been raped or assaulted, I'm sure all women will be taken at their word...

Absolutely horrifying isn't it.

No woman is going to believed on her say so and by the time she could be believed, it is going to be too late Angry

Yes, and I can only guess that some women will be believed more readily than others

TomPinch · 10/10/2024 04:10

Speaking of 538, its predictions re the electoral college are:

Harris 273, Trump 265

In toss-up states Harris is ahead in Pennsylvania, Nevada, Michigan and Wisconsin. Trump is ahead in North Carolina, Georgia and Arizona.

It could scarcely be tighter and regardless of who wins there will be all manner of court applications snarling things up after polling day.

BruceAndNosh · 10/10/2024 09:23

Trump got away with so much after 2020, that he won't hesitate to pull the same shit again. He won't have presidential immunity but I wouldn't trust the Supreme Court to give him some other get out clause.

The polls are so confusing - it doesn't matter how Trump is polling in CA, or Harris is doing in TX.

There's going to be serious logistical challenges before election day, and legal challenges afterwards because of hurricanes Helene and Milton

Yes, if Trump was in office now he'd probably use the storms to try to find a way to delay the election

CaveMum · 10/10/2024 11:10

Am I the only one a tad disappointed to see that Milton won't have had much impact on Mar-a-Lago? Of course I don't wish any ill to the people that live and work in the area, but a flooded golf course would have been some nice karma...

DuncinToffee · 10/10/2024 11:13

A few golden toilets and made in China bibles flying around would have been nice....

“I personally don't think he intended to overthrow the constitution.”

Johnson defends Donald Trump over the January 6th attack on the US Capitol and argues the former president would have prevented the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Talkinpeace · 10/10/2024 12:20

@CaveMum Milton was a Gulf Storm. There are ocean ones forming up towards the Atlantic shore at the moment. They could blow up or dissipate in no time. Its going to be a long four weeks

Another one here. Although I freely admit I'm one who wouldn't have shed a tear if the bullet hadn't missed, so you might not want to align with me 😅

Talkinpeace · 10/10/2024 12:29

A friend of mine lives not far from Mar a Lago so if the storm could just take out beach front and leave her house, that would be cool :-)

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 10/10/2024 12:40

I gather that Mar-a-Lago itself is pretty-much hurricane-proof, with three-foot-thick walls anchored with concrete and metal to the rock below. The grounds being destroyed would be satisfying, though.
