Non-fake, stable genius thanks to @Crucible for the new thread title.

Seniors' special today.*
They’re eating the dogs!
They’re eating the cats!
They’re eating the pets!...
So do you want fries with that cat? (*Apologies to non-MAGA seniors)

In other news, the swing states continue to be too close to call and it looks like it's going to be a nail-biting, buttock-clenching, hand-wringing 50 days to the election. (or thereabouts)
Increase your anxiety with this handy countdown 😭

Indeed.
Its one of the reasons names get re used because the 'storm' was eminently forgettable.
On the other hand the really memorable names get retired after their famous date.
Camille, Katrina, Maria, Floyd, Helene etc

Wallaw · 08/10/2024 14:15

New York Times/Siena poll (one of the highly rated ones)

Harris 49%
Trump 46%
Was 47-47 last month

9% of registered Republicans planning to vote for Harris, up from 5% last month.

It's going to be close, but a little optimism.

Our ballots arrived this morning and I'm feeling ridiculously excited about it.

Thanks for this. I noticed yesterday that the Polymarkets site was reporting an upswing in Trump’s chances. I do wonder if it’s Elon flooding the betting markets with his $$

Talkinpeace · 08/10/2024 14:24

Polymarkets is owned by Peter Theil.
Nuff said.

And they now count Nate Silver as an employee

Talkinpeace · 08/10/2024 14:33

Eh ? Nate Silver works for and runs 538 not Polymarkets

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 08/10/2024 14:40

As well as. "Nate Silver Joins Polymarket Ahead of 2024 Election, As Trading Volume Tops $400M" and "Polymarket, the world's largest prediction market, welcomes statistician and FiveThirtyEight founder Nate Silver who will join the company's advisory board."

He has joined the Advisory board.
Not the same thing at all as being their employee.
He's an advisor.

No, he's been hired as an advisor as opposed to sitting on the board, so while not an employee, more akin to a consultant. He's earning a paycheck from them. He's no longer with 538.

Talkinpeace · 08/10/2024 15:19

He has his own site

Talkinpeace · 08/10/2024 15:19

Yes, he has a substack, and still has 538 in his handle, but he left 538 in 2023 (I think sometime in early summer) amid a bunch of ABC/Disney layoffs and shakeups.

Now who do we believe...?

Trump campaign unleashes insults at Woodward after report that former president kept in touch with Putin.

Amid reports that Bob Woodward’s forthcoming book would reveal that Donald Trump called Putin as many as seven times after leaving office and secretly sent him Covid-19 testing machines during the pandemic in 2020, the former president’s campaign has issued a flurry of personal attacks against the veteran investigative journalist.

In a statement, the campaign’s communications director Steven Cheung also said Woodward’s reporting was false:
None of these made up stories by Bob Woodward are true and are the work of a truly demented and deranged man who suffers from a debilitating case of Trump Derangement Syndrome. Woodward is an angry, little man and is clearly upset because President Trump is successfully suing him because of the unauthorized publishing of recordings he made previously. President Trump gave him absolutely no access for this trash book that either belongs in the bargain bin of the fiction section of a discount bookstore or used as toilet tissue. Woodward is a total sleazebag who has lost it mentally, and he’s slow, lethargic, incompetent and overall a boring person with no personality.
(The Guardian)

Fixed it...

Speaking of Bob Woodward, I don't know if this will resonate with anyone, but we rewatched this recently (with our kids who are too young to have the foggiest about Watergate) and all thought it was absolutely hilarious

I'm always amused by MAGAs doing out the Trump Derangement Syndrome insult.
I think of it as a diagnosis of Trump's failing brainm

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 08/10/2024 17:25

Trump's Derangement rather than anyone else's, certainly.

Errolwasahero · 08/10/2024 19:12

Has anyone seen the 60 minutes Harris interview? Just wondering how it might affect the voting….

There's no way I'm watching Boris fecking Johnson on US Election night. (They'll be recruiting Nigel double-fecking Farage next) JFC!
