Jay Blades charged for abuse of his wife

MorrisZapp · 13/09/2024 14:34

He's appeared in court. The charges are controlling and coercive behaviour, emotional abuse and physical abuse. The charges relate to his estranged wife.

God almighty, what next BBC?

We are removing this while we do some checks behind the scenes.

It's not really any problem of the BBC, it's a problem with society. I mean, actually I should clarify that it's generally a problem with men.

Given the number of male presenters and the amount of abusive bastards out there, the number of BBC (or other presenters) is probably fairly representative of the general public.

Velvian · 13/09/2024 14:38

Not at all surprised. DH had his number, loves Repair Shop, hates JB! I just hate all of it.

MorrisZapp · 13/09/2024 14:38

Yip the repair guy. He's 54, I assumed he was older.

Bloody hell. These abusers are everywhere arent they.

Shadowbox7 · 13/09/2024 14:40

Not sure really what's got to do with BBC, how would they know unless previous history/ conviction.

SoleToSoulToSeoul · 13/09/2024 14:42

That's not down to the BBC is it.

ToriTheStoryteller · 13/09/2024 14:44

I always find it strange that the media say things like Hollywood/Charities/BBC/IT/Hedgehog Rescue Centres have a problem with abusive practices...agree with pp, SOCIETY has a problem with abusive practices and all these sectors and industries are part of society.

It's a way of deflecting the issue so they think that if they tighten up in that industry they don't have to bother addressing it in the other 97% of society.

Foxxo · 13/09/2024 14:46

why is there this constant expectation that just because people have jobs in media that they're perfect/nice people?

The people you see on screen are people doing a job.

You talk to my ExH's friends and they'll all tell you what a nice person he is, respectful, helpful, funny... he was just a cunt to me.

Being nice on screen doesn't mean they're nice off screen!

Me too. He always gave me bad vibes

It's not the BBC, it's men.
There's assholes in every organisation. Although some are better at flushing them out than others.

PaininthePreferbial · 13/09/2024 15:02

Same, apart from respectful and helpful, he gave the appearance of so much but offered little. My experience with him has left me with little trust for those who appear to be so very nice.

I'm not surprised about Jay Blades at all, I was almost waiting for something to come out at some point.

I hope his wife is okay and has the support she'll be needing.

MissMoneyFairy · 13/09/2024 15:04

Goodbye to his new series then if he's found guilty

Nobodywouldknow · 13/09/2024 15:12

Hope his ex wife is okay. His demeanour suggests aggression below the surface and I am not surprised in the slightest.

Bluevelvetsofa · 13/09/2024 15:15

I saw him several years ago at an Ideal Home exhibition. He was painting chair legs with one a different colour and he’s been doing that frequently since.

He must have come over well to get the job fronting Repair Shop, but really, it’s the people doing the work who are the talented experts and several of them can do the fronting part too.

He hasn’t been married very long either.

I was surprised that he did a programme very recently with Dame Judi Dench.

Took the words from my mouth. 👌

LoobyDoop2 · 13/09/2024 16:08

I knew that sentimental empathy was trowelled on too thick to be genuine. I love it when the Repair Shop restores genuinely beautiful old things, but it’s got a bit ridiculous. I watched one the other week where they restored an Etch-A-Sketch, and even then they managed to wring out a soppy backstory about it being what someone’s nan would have wanted.

alpacachino · 13/09/2024 16:10

It's not the BBC's fault is it!

SirChenjins · 13/09/2024 16:12

The whole East End geezer done good persona never did it for me - I always thought there was something about him. I hope his wife his OK, these bastards are everywhere.

Simonjt · 13/09/2024 16:21

I thought the fact that he had subjected her to abuse was already common knowledge, which is why I was always confused he was still presenting the repair shop.

helmettask · 13/09/2024 16:26

Never liked him on the repair shop and thought the programme he did about learning to read didn’t come across as particularly genuine. Yes obviously he had some difficulties but not to the extent he claimed.
The reading age of an 11 year old is actually quite decent and yet they made out he could barely recognise letters.
Hope his wife is being well supported

Wondergoldenlight · 13/09/2024 16:31

I genuinely thought he was late 60s / early 70s.

ClosingTheDoorOnThePast · 13/09/2024 16:35

It might not be the BBC's fault but this was known - his ex made it clear in her statement at the time that he was abusive. He was promptly dropped from Repair Shop but that dreadful show with David Jason continued to be shown.

YellowphantGrey · 13/09/2024 16:38

Have the BBC sacked him?

It's getting tiresome reading about all these abusive men.

I really hope his wife is ok
