Jay Blades charged for abuse of his wife

MorrisZapp · 13/09/2024 14:34

He's appeared in court. The charges are controlling and coercive behaviour, emotional abuse and physical abuse. The charges relate to his estranged wife.

God almighty, what next BBC?

It might not be the BBC's fault but this was known - his ex made it clear in her statement at the time that he was abusive. He was promptly dropped from Repair Shop but that dreadful show with David Jason continued to be shown.

At the time she said "nothing gives you the right to put your hands on another person".

And a statement on her insta: Lisa Zbozen | Workout | I have been quiet until now, but the papers seem to be picking up this story, I want it to be clear what I put so there’s no… | Instagram

I am never surprised that men turn out to be terrible human beings no matter what other impression they give to the wider world.

Toddlerteaplease · 13/09/2024 16:56

Never liked him, can't stand all the crying on Repair shop!

GetBackInYourBox · 13/09/2024 17:13

He just fits the type doesn't he. Strong independent women comes along, he marries her then it all goes downhill with coercive behaviour in the following months. I saw it a mile off. My expertise? I work with offenders.

Bloody hell. These abusers are everywhere arent they.

Hiding in plain sight

Hadjab · 13/09/2024 17:47

How is this the BBC's fault?

Shitty man does shitty stuff to his wife, so let's burn down the BBC, that'll show him!

CeruleanBelt · 13/09/2024 17:52

Bloody hell this is the first I've heard of it! I've never been a fan but he really did work hard to put forward a "good guy" persona.

SleepingisanArt · 13/09/2024 18:14

BBC aren't showing an episode (repeat maybe) of the show with him and David Jason (who I can't stand either) which was due to be aired today.

I'm hopeful they'll make the repair shop without him - I don't see what he brings to it, just presenting and I think the others do it better!

EternallyDelighted · 13/09/2024 20:48

I read his memoir last year, his father was a complete feckless waste of space with lots of children with lots of women and he has virtually no relationship with him. Sounded as though Jay wanted to do better. But he seems to have gone the same way, chip off the old block it seems.

RainbowZebraWarrior · 13/09/2024 20:52

My mother just texted me saying "so Jay Blades has been cancelled now" I looked up the story, and thought to myself about how he's been vocal in the past about his abusive upbringing. In my experience (and research shows) abuse tends to repeat itself. My mother is a survivor of some pretty awful physical abuse, but still tends to side with men. I think that's a case of decades of internalised (almost institutional) misogyny, sadly.

Ugh ok that's not on. Clearly. But in the BBC's defence (and I am NOT a fan of the broadcaster, let's put it that way) they can't just fire anyone and everyone without evidence.

Now that he's been charged I imagine they will continue to take his appearances off air until the trial is concluded.

MrsTerryPratchett · 13/09/2024 21:02

The Met recently said that around 1 in 7 men is a danger to women. We're 'surprised' at the sheer number of abusive men but we shouldn't be. They're everywhere.

But on every thread where someone is worried about a male nursery teacher or similar, it's total outrage.

BatFacedGirlll · 13/09/2024 21:42

Interesting he did a programme with DJ.

Because that's another one in the pipeline of 'males who are unable to behave themselves'

Mark my words!

Have the BBC sacked him?

It's getting tiresome reading about all these abusive men.

I really hope his wife is ok

The BBC don’t employ him. Repair Shop is made by an independent company.

He stopped repair shop as some relative or other got murdered. Which he'll probably use as an excuse.

RabbitsRock · 13/09/2024 22:28

I never got bad vibes at all.

Cozylozy · 13/09/2024 22:54

Again…… 😡
David Jason according to rumours has a v unsavoury past, perhaps it will come out when he is no longer around.

SocksFlyingEverywhere · 13/09/2024 23:50

I think it must take quite an unusual sort of person to want to be on tv these days. They are so exposed, and people can be watching reruns on youtube for ever and discussing and poking and probing people's lives. I just can't see how anyone would think that was a good idea.

I was asked to do a very short segment on a BBC tv show this year, and I was just about ready to move to the Moon to avoid it. Honestly you wouldn't get me near appearing on a tv programme for all the tea in china.

I wonder what it is about certain people that they are willing to give up their anonymity and risk being a public figure like that? Maybe it's just that they need the money and then they have to put up with all the awful stress that goes with it.

TizerorFizz · 14/09/2024 00:04

Repair Shop isn’t made by the BBC. He’s not a bbc employee. It’s made by Ricochet. Lots of incorrect assumptions on here. The bbc can decide to not commission the programme any more or continue to have it with a different presenter. Of course JB could be innocent so waiting for the outcome is important.

MrsSkylerWhite · 14/09/2024 00:06

What’s it to do with the BBC? He fooled Judi Dench, too. Is she to blame as well?

TizerorFizz · 14/09/2024 00:17

The BBC don’t make the programme. He’s not a BBC employee. So who employs him will have to decide what to do. That’s not Judy Dench either.

she’s in on it. Everyone knows
