Tiny disappointments in life

Dh has just put on an episode of University Challenge. It disappoints me every time that the teams aren't actually sitting one on top of the other.

M&S have stopped doing vine leaves as part of their tapas/mezze/anti-pasti range. I was very sad about that.

Noooooo!
I thought they'd just sold out.

I’ve never got over Gold margarine not having the imprint of a cow and milk churns on it.

And it tasting like dogshit, obviously.

PyongyangKipperbang · 13/09/2024 00:27

A bag of skittles with a disproportionately small number of green ones.

Finding out about 10 years ago that Jools' Holland’s annual Hootenanny is not filmed live. Killed it for me.

YEah that broke my sisters heart. She, as a Friends fan, said "So Joey filming NYE early is true?!"

PyongyangKipperbang · 13/09/2024 00:35

In one series of University Challenge series (just googled, 1986, I read it somewhere.....probably MN!) they did actually sit physically tiered. But it didnt catch on (again, google) and they went back to the split screen in the next series.

Further googling says that the Young Ones UC episode was filmed in 1984 so it would be nice to think that it was done on the the back of the Young Ones!

Eating readybrek doesn't give you a glowing outline like in the old TV ads. I can still remember the disappointment 40 odd years later. 😞

I remember there being spoofs of the ad;

Want your family to glow in the dark? - move to Windscale. This was before it was re-branded.
Want your family to glow in the dark? - buy a cottage in Wales.

Oh no I LOVED those! Very sad.

Latenightreader · 13/09/2024 00:46

That the channel tunnel isn’t made of glass. I remember the breakthrough in the middle taking place about the same time I went to the sea life centre for the first time and although by the time I first traveled through it I knew, I am still a little sad every time.

ghostbusters · 13/09/2024 01:13

The takeaway curry I had last weekend. I was really looking forward to it but it was rubbish. And I had to sit for half an hour longer than their stated collection time before my order was ready. And they forgot to put in the saag aloo I ordered. And it was too far to go back for it.
That place is on the black list now.

WriterOfWrongs · 13/09/2024 01:13

Childhood: That there was no actual circus at Piccadilly.

Today: that when I went into Krispy Kreme Donuts for the first time in over six months, it turned out that the branch I was in had stopped stocking the classic Chocolate Kreme donut. I mean, why would you no longer stock that one of all the ones? Shock

I missed that episode… but I have never got over the demise of “The Young Ones.”.. utterly utterly brilliant.
I also loved the spoof of “ The Famous Five”.. same production company I think.

thank goodness,i sortof thought i dreamt that....

Comic Strip Presents...

Five go to Rehab!

Every time I open a McDonald's box and see the tragic pathetic version of the advertised photo.
Only buy one about once a year.
Same disappointment each time.

i think food advertising should be made my trading standards who rock up at a random branch of (say) McDonalds, order a Big Mac and whatever it looks like in the box will be the photo.

Kendal mint cake. Disappoints on all fronts.

I remember when you had to take KMC on a DofE Bronze expedition as an emergency. We got lost for about 3 minutes and ate the whole thing as we thought that was an emergency. God, it was gross!

That you can still get spots on your face well beyond your teens.

That I have never, as magazines would had me believe, needed a day into night range of clothes in my wardrobe. I feel I have missed out on something somewhere.

coxesorangepippin · 13/09/2024 02:09

Turkish delight
I mean the fuck, it's crap

The Olympics
I mean it's alright but it's not spectacular is it

The ubiquitous NYE
Oh the horror

Daschund · 13/09/2024 02:45

ComeOnThenFanny · 12/09/2024 22:30

It makes no difference. Whichever one you use... IT'S THE OTHER ONE 😡

If it's Anadin Extras, open thd red end, you'll thank me later.

Giggorata · 13/09/2024 02:56

That Keeping up with the Kardashians (which I'd only heard about) wasn’t about the Cardassians from Star Trek.

Ooofe - that's tough. Once a year I buy some and sit in a car park and eat them. Bugger!

ChimbarasiKotapaxi · 13/09/2024 03:19

Thank you OP I was feeling a bit low and you've mae me laugh

Netaporter · 13/09/2024 03:59

Mine are food related:

-That Revels no longer include the chocolate peanuts - it made for a better game of Revel roulette at the cinema (the chocolate raisins can feck off)
-The demise of the original m&s Greek yoghurt/cherry compote fruit-corner style yoghurt - the yoghurt was delish and sweeter that its sour-tasting replacement
-That the little chef no longer exists. I’d love to return to an Olympic breakfast and a cherries jubilee pancake even though it was in reality it was probably absolute shite.

On another note.. that no one actually got sawn into two pieces by a magician.

The souks of Marrakesh- it is not like Carrie Bradshaw in the second Sex and the city movie would have us believe

Lemanoir · 13/09/2024 04:16

I take it very personally when I shop at Sainsbury’s and they don’t give me a money off voucher at checkout. It’s like they’ve given up trying to win my business!

GogAndMagog · 13/09/2024 04:34

Disappointed when I moved to London late 80s and didn't see any 'famous people' , (as they were known back then) walking around the centre of town like I imagined.

The closest I ever got was some bloke off Brookside.

GogAndMagog · 13/09/2024 04:40

Another one, that Yellow Pages didn't have pop up buildings and people in the pages as you flicked through it, like a huge pop up story book.

So excited to get a telephone connected in our house as I wanted to play with the Yellow Pages. 😢 That's when I realised that adverts could lie.
