Tiny disappointments in life

Dh has just put on an episode of University Challenge. It disappoints me every time that the teams aren't actually sitting one on top of the other.

OP posts:

Lidl Pringle style crisps have changed their recipe to include poison wheat. Why Lidl, why? They were perfect before. Schar curvies are so expensive and boring 😭

Shit really?? How long ago?

JackJarvisEsq · 12/09/2024 21:37

Centre Parcs isn’t under a glass dome

Acornsoup · 12/09/2024 21:40

@JackJarvisEsq that was not a tiny disappointment by any means 😭

bringincrazyback · 12/09/2024 21:42

OP this has been a lifelong disappointment to me too! 😄

Aren't they?! 😲

That periods were not blue.
I was young when I started with very little in the way of an explanation but I remember the TV ad where a woman whispered about agreeing with her sister about the softness of always pads or something and it had been shown to me clearly that blue water would drop onto a pad that could then be thrown away. The real thing was very disapointing and way more alarming.

Nor are they just a few of teaspoons of blood each month.

mrsmiawallace3 · 12/09/2024 21:49

That winning a Crackerjack pencil wasn't all that.

PattyDuckface · 12/09/2024 21:50

Fizz bombs do not make you fly. Why say it then? Why say it.

Fizbosshoes · 12/09/2024 21:51

I'm disappointed at the end of August every year, when it starts getting dark noticeably earlier. I whinge about it, daily for several weeks....maybe it's more than a tiny disappointment 🤣

DrFosterWentToGloucester23 · 12/09/2024 21:53

Mr Frosty. Just shit.

DrFosterWentToGloucester23 · 12/09/2024 21:54

M&S have stopped doing vine leaves as part of their tapas/mezze/anti-pasti range. I was very sad about that.

That The Crystal Maze was not as spontaneous as it looked, and not filmed in real time at all. The team captain saying "I think we'll have Neil playing a physical game" was scripted. Each episode took two days to film - they'd play the games on the first day, and film the close ups on the second day. It was a crushing disappointment to learn this: lots of former contestants have confirmed this in the comments on Youtube. You can get an insight into this if you look for "Crystal Maze Outtakes" on Youtube. There's one moment when a team captain is asked who will play the next game, and she says "Erm... I've forgotten."

And while Richard O'Brien went to great pains to make it look genuine, saying things like "I built the games myself, with these little hands", now we have Richard Ayoade, who does the opposite, and keeps reminding us at every turn that it's all fake. "We will edit a helmet on to your head, is that OK?"

Another London Underground disappointment: that at Stockwell station, the Northern and Victoria lines are not at right angles to each other, as they appear on the map. I hadn't learned about Harry Beck's map, and that the lines are not straight like they are shown there.

And a disappointment from when I was five years old: I remember my excitement at being told that I would win if I was the one who pinned the donkey's tail closest to the right spot, and I thought this would be really easy. Nobody said that I would be blindfolded!!!!!!! 😭

The game Mousetrap

CasualObserver53 · 12/09/2024 22:02

@TeaHagTeaBag I am very highly educated and yet for YEARS I thought the contestant benches were on top of each other, bunk bed style. I still struggle to believe otherwise 🤣

When I open a packet of tablets only to find the fold of the paper insert instead of the pills... I've been told which way to do it but continue to fail every single time.

Same!

Which way are you supposed to do it to avoid the leaflet-fold-end??

I can't be bothered to get up to check, but I remember thinking it's not the one you'd assume, so maybe the end with the exp date.?

It makes no difference. Whichever one you use... IT'S THE OTHER ONE 😡

M&Ms 'brownies'. I never buy chocolate, but saw these yesterday on my way home from a dental appointment (no work needed!), so thought I'd treat myself. Never again - they're like those Revels with toffee in the middle, only slightly less chewy. Very sad :(

That is not a tiny disappointment!! That's huge! Nothing worse than a delicious looking treat that's disappointing to eat.

Pluviophile1 · 12/09/2024 22:34

I bought a packet of Graze snacks once because the description on the packet made them sound delicious.

Could not have been more wrong. Very disappointing.

DrinkElephants · 12/09/2024 22:35

As a kid I thought they were sat on top of each other, I think I was definitely 20+ when I realised they weren’t and you’re right it was disappointing 😂

That supermarket Battenburg doesn't have almonds in the 'marzipan'.

Errr what???!!
