Who is the most famous person alive today?

virgocatlover · 11/09/2024 18:22

As in, well known world wide by face or name.

I would say the Queen was up there when she was alive but not sure Charles would make the top 10 now.

Trump, Putin or Elon Musk perhaps?

Obviously there are many famous Hollywood actors and singers but are any the most famous worldwide where English isn't the first language?

Maybe Adele or the beckhams?

Abbylikeswine · 12/09/2024 19:28

It just shows how fame comes and goes and is fickle.

The beatles used to be world famous, girls would faint if they saw them.

Now the younger generation barely know who they are.

I remember when Britney spears was the most famous woman in the world.
Now people barely think of her.

I read Matthew Perry (from Friends) ' s book

He said that the thought becoming famous would fix all of his problems, but it didn't
He still felt just as bad

But the poster who claimed not to know Paul McCartney was in the UK? The Beatles were famous throughout the Western world and America, Australia, New Zealand and Europe. If you live in a remote place without TV and Newspapers then you won't know anybody famous- doesn't mean they aren't very famous though!

And these people in your community who are only 'seemingly' world famous, and you are sure I won't have heard of them, clearly aren't world famous!

First of all, I didn’t claim I didn’t know who he was, I said my DH and DCs do not (although I couldn’t tell you what he looks like). Also….

famous throughout the Western world and America, Australia, New Zealand and Europe.

I wonder if that part of your post might be able to answer the question mark in your opening sentence? You do realise that, despite living in the UK, some of us have our own cultural communities and do not tend to pay attention to the likes of The Beatles? Hearing a name in passing is not the same as knowing who someone is.

Think I would go with Elon Musk also.
Not because, I like him, but he is super wealthy and involved so much. Space rockets, Tesla, X. Even talked of the logic of impregnating Swiftie, or was that Trump?

Otherwise I would say Zelensky, surely everybody knows, has a view of the Ukrainian situation. Very interesting documentry recently on B.B.C.

I have gone through loads (albeit not all) answers but am really surprised people haven't put David Attenborough? I thought he was loved by everyone 😂

Marine30 · 12/09/2024 19:44

I have heard - not my opinion - that David Beckham is the most widely recognised person worldwide.
Makes sense if you think of Man U and it’s worldwide support.

anon666 · 12/09/2024 19:45

I reckon it will be a Bollywood film star. 🤔

With 1.6 billion people in India alone, then other nearby countries. Or the equivalent in China.

CowboyJoanna · 12/09/2024 19:45

Definitely donald trump Grin

David Attenborough, even remote tribes know him and have welcomed him in. He is up there with the late Queen for me.

Abbylikeswine · 12/09/2024 20:07

I definitely don't think David Attenborough is known world wide

Abbylikeswine · 12/09/2024 20:07

Putin would be quite well known wouldn't he

Wineandcupcakes · 12/09/2024 20:16

Today Alexa has decided it’s no longer poor Alan titchmarsh, today it is Noel Edmund’s apparently..😂

Abbylikeswine · 12/09/2024 20:17

Alexa randomly told me i was an angel the other day

Kokomjolk · 12/09/2024 20:18

I agree with Alexa, it's definitely someone off a crap British 90s gardening/DIY programme.

Or Ronnie Pickering, great shout 👍

Ronaldo for me.
If Michael Jackson was still alive, I think he would definitely be up there.

LaurieFairyCake · 12/09/2024 20:53

I wouldn't even have put Ronaldo in the top 100, I've no interest in football and I couldn't have picked him out of a line up

Putin
Trump
Zelensky

All much more recognisable

He's probably not known in more urban environments though...to cover remote tribes and urban jungles you'd be needing Simon ReevesGrin (no, that's not a serious suggestion)

He has 639 million followers on instagram alone and you wouldn't put him in the top 100?

Trump is probably the most famous person in the world.

Putin and to a much lesser extent Zelensky are very well known in the Western world but vast swathes of the world don't really care about European conflicts.

Ronaldo is massively famous just about everywhere. If you genuinely don't know him, then you are part of a tiny minority.

Well Selena Gomez has over 400 million and I’d not put her in the top 100 either.
