Cue spooky music...

Is there anything you've read on here that's stuck with you, or you'd like to get to the bottom of?
I'd like to know what happened to the two Microsoft laptops which were delivered to a MN's daughter I think a week or two ago?
Also the woo one about the missing clock chains.

What are your unsolved MN mysteries?

Ice cream van music coming from the bottom of a large garden at night time.

Also one where a person was dog sitting and took the dog for a walk in woods accessible at the end of a garden. It was night time and as she delved further into the wood she could feel a sense of evil, like a presence, that someone was watching her. The dog was barking like mad and both ran back to the house - gives me the shudders.

The lady who had a relative who was known to have a shady past (extorting money from parents etc) who was given a clearly made up cancer diagnosis and 12 month life expectancy. I wonder how he's doing sometimes and whether the truth came out

Doggymummar · 12/09/2024 07:30

Just caught up on the proposal one, blubbing now

StarSlinger · 12/09/2024 07:32

Most of them probably went on to troll another day.

Cantinfluenceme · 12/09/2024 07:39

Anyone remember the one where a lady posts about her husband not paying the rent? She had received an email from the letting agency to say they were in arrears and would be serving notice? Her husband was at work and she belt ringing him and updating us every time he didn't answer, his secretary kept telling her he was in a meeting? She updated the thread every 5 mins to say she couldn't get him and what was she going to do, he was a useless fucker etc etc. then all of a sudden nothing.. she never came back!!

You can see the deletion message for the spooky music thread here: https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/4638968-creepy-music-in-my-garden

Well done, I couldn't find it for love nor money! Serious rather than sinister but still, what happened?????

Laiste · 12/09/2024 08:16

@AtYourOwnRisk your post made me laugh 😂

I remember the haunted mill one and i was pretty absorbed in it as well even though it felt story like.

But yes! That Savernake Forest one - ok it's a good read and maybe it happened (i'm very open minded) but i don't actually find it that scary tbh. A lot of hysteria and running about in the dark. The night club ghost one - creepy idea, but again it's funny how that's lodged so hard in MN memory.

Now - the weird leaning over backwards revolting demon thing in the bedroom ... that really chilled me. I believe that 100%.

And the malevolent imaginary friend one, where the OP's son had an IF who would suggest horrible things and wouldn't go away ect ect. So OP did a few bits to get rid of it - salt/herbs ect (unbeknownst to her son) and the next morning the house felt better and then the son said the imaginary friend was outside looking IN from through the window and was very angry 😳😖

@Laiste, yes, it’s actually really interesting to me how things get lodged in the Mn collective consciousness as particularly memorable /credible/scary — I agree about the Savernake Forest dogs and demons one not really earning its disproportionate reputation. It’s atmospheric, but it’s the two disembodied voices (the one that tells the OP to go back, and the nasty one that tells her not to use the name of God) that misfire for me. Though the panicking chickens are a great bit of atmosphere-setting…

And the angry, eternally-young nightclub ghost is pure ‘Misty annual 1982’!😀

Is the haunted mill/converted office thread still up, or was it deleted, I wonder? I would have no idea how to find it.

Remind me about the leaning backwards bedroom demon?

mumgodloveher · 12/09/2024 09:04

@TruthThatsHardAsSteel
Yes, there is a thread still going for PurpleLampshades.
I have it on my watch list. Her last update was a couple of months ago. He came home for a night and then left again. Very, very sad. Can't work out how to link it on my mobile.

Laiste · 12/09/2024 09:10

The leaning backwards demon was mentioned on a general 'woo' thread and was picked up on (rightly so!) and discussed a bit more. OP was in a hotel iirc? Something behind the OP waiting for her to turn around and see it. Something about a big black bird as well. A few weeks later it was then bought up again on another thread and the OP came back agin. I'll try and find it a bit later. It was bizarre enough to be true. OP seemed v genuine.

Laiste · 12/09/2024 09:12

It was a cross between human and animal and very old and revolting. And leaning backwards at an impossible angle. Yuk!

TheShellBeach · 12/09/2024 13:03

TruthThatsHardAsSteel · 12/09/2024 05:48

Ghosted the thread from what I remember. Posters were more and more expressing concern. I guess the op maybe found it difficult. I'm very tired so not explaining so good x

I can't remember her user name, or what the thread was called.

tolerable · 12/09/2024 18:34

how cat temptress who posted prawns in her not yet moved in yet neighbours air vent when her cat trapped self in their home is getting long with neighbours?

EmeraldRoulette · 12/09/2024 18:38

@Laiste I haven’t had a chance to read all of this but I hope you have been credited for Goatman! That’s got to be my favourite MN thread.

I didn’t see the one about the backbending creature, it sounds fab!

Fraaahnces · 12/09/2024 19:13

@Mummyoflittledragon - I obviously fell off the thread prematurely. A lot has happened and not for the best. He’s back with the woman - who wasn’t a teenager, but 11 years older it would seem. Looks like she’s physically abusing him too. Poor Purple is really struggling. (Of course!)

MissNowt · 12/09/2024 19:21

Quite a recent one but the woman whose husband just suddenly went on holiday without telling her where he was going. She realised she knew so little about him - especially finances. Suspicions were that he was a secret gambler. Her youngest daughter was supporting him & horrible to her. I hope she’s ok.

ellebelli · 12/09/2024 20:58

The strange music in the garden thread, especially because of the strange deletion message( can MNHQ not just tell us what it was all about???? 😀)
definitely sticks in my head.
As does Birdie friend-was quite invested in that-did it too get deleted?
No others really stand out to me

That's the Savernake Forest thread. It's in Classics. Comes up every time anyone starts a thread about spooky stories.

Fescue · 12/09/2024 21:12

The leaning back creature is real. I know of it, I know where it may appear. Others have seen it. Leave that place alone is my advice.

OtisPotis · 12/09/2024 21:18

I remember an intriguing post about someone finding a phone in their house that didn't belong to anyone. Some sort of disturbance in the night and the front door being open. I think the police took the phone to investigate. Was it ever resolved?
Is there a link to the spooky sounded bent over demon one?

EmeraldRoulette · 12/09/2024 21:46

@Fescue blimey. But some people will live there...hoping I don't! Really curious about that one now.

scaredrabbit · 12/09/2024 02:46

Hi there @cunoyerjudowel and @gmgnts amazed you remember!
I was the scared rabbit that found a phone in my enclosed courtyard.
The police came and said the intruder probably dropped his phone trying to get away from the dog and probably was hiding in the corner the dog was barking at (note to self: never put yourself between dog and whatever he's barking at and never turn your back to whatever he's barking at).
They had a look around, spotted a patch of trampled/flattened grass on the other side of the house and thought whomever was here had probably been watching the house from there.😱
I asked why the phone had no sim card and they said it was common - I don't understand this.
They took the phone with them and we never heard anything more.

A week later, late afternoon (daylight) I saw a man exiting our field, adjacent to the garden. I could only see his back, all dressed in black. DH went and caught up with him, eventually - the man was ignoring DH calling after him and was walking fast- couldn't get anything out of him, he wouldn't even stop walking, so DH just warned him off. Apparently he was quite old, dressed in 'city' suit and shoes, but not smart or anything, weird enough for DH to notice. Maybe it was our intruder coming back for his phone?

We got another, big, very scary dog and I started sleeping at night again.
This happened during lockdown and it was great to vent and get MN's take.

@OtisPotis This is the update from scaredrabbit about the phone in their court yard.

I’m loving this thread!

CandyCanes23 · 12/09/2024 22:02

I remember the clock with the missing chains! There was another one by a lady who’d lost her dressing gown I think and thought the builder might have taken it. Did she ever find it?

And there was a recent missing cat one where they thought the cat was in nextdoor’s cavity wall, the fire brigade had been out twice but couldn’t detect it - did she find the cat??

something else came to mind whilst I was reading all the posts but I’ve forgotten it now…

The cat in the cavity wall was found. The neighbour set up a camera which caught it coming out. As I recall it went home like nothing had happened. If it hadn’t been on camera they wouldn’t have known.
