It's cold here today. Sat with a hot water bottle while working from home. Tempted to pop mine on for an hour or two.

SE , ours has not clicked on at all yet but last night was the first night I’ve switched the fans off in the bedroom overnight .

Fizzypineapple · 11/09/2024 17:51

God no. It's ok to be a bit chilly in the day time unless you're ill or can't move around too much. Just use a jumper or a blanket otherwise.

I struggle to sleep cold though so I do use an electric blanket for 20 mins or so before bed.

Sitting in my knickers and a Tee with the windows wide open. 14 degrees. Nowhere near jersey temps yet, never mind heating.

No wonder people have enormous fuel bills 😐

It depends on your age and condition. My late husband never had a problem with colder weather when he was younger, but once the family heart condition hit him, he needed the heating on.

CaptainCabinetsTrappedInCabinets · 11/09/2024 17:56

No way, mid November before I will even consider it here!

Crunchymum · 11/09/2024 18:09

I'm usually pretty adamant the heating doesn't go on between May - November but I had to get my mini heater out today. I'm in London so not even a cold part of the country (but yes to an old draughty house and I was sat at my laptop on meetings and always get cold if I sit for too long!!)

Feel like a bit of a wimp 😂

The SE is that weird 'inbetweeny' weather at the moment. Meaning if its sunny and calm then its still really warm but clouds and wind and it gets really nippy.
So its all about the layers!

Funny how different people interpret it though....walking the dogs today Ive seen people in shorts and t shirts and others in puffer coats and scarves.
Im so confused!!LOL😅

In our dog walking park there's me and a Scottish guy who are in shorts and t-shirt when walking the dogs til well into October. The rest of the people here (Midlanders) look at us like we're insane.

I cave first, without fail, every year. The Scots are a different breed when it comes to feeling the cold. And I'm from the NE so I deal pretty well 😂

Rory17384949 · 11/09/2024 18:16

No but it's unusually cold for September and the house was freezing when I got home , so it might be on for a bit then back off again until October!

We went to Florence a few years ago for October half term. The temperature varied between 16C to 23C. We were in summer clothes, the Italians were dressed for winter.

And, the woman who owned our airbnb had put the heating on for us when we arrived, it was mid 20s!

wastingtimeonhere · 12/09/2024 06:20

Ours is set with thermostat to 20° DH is disabled and not very mobile. He rang me yesterday to say heating was on, even he was surprised it had kicked in and thought there was something wrong. The temperature had dropped outside yesterday though so not surprised indoors dropped too.

Pumpkittenspice · 12/09/2024 07:00

Nope, but my DP have been wearing our Oodies over the last few days

FawnFrenchieMum · 12/09/2024 07:02

Yesterday I would have said no not yet, I’ve got up this morning and it’s turned on by the thomostat for the first time!

not on yet as i am working away so using the hotel's heating and work has put the heating on. When i get home i will try and avoid putting it on until November

AyeupDuck · 12/09/2024 07:29

Mine clicked on by itself yesterday which means it was under 18 degrees. It hasn’t come on this morning.

The Scots?! Err, no we’re not - we feel the cold as much as the Englanders!

DrSavaage · 12/09/2024 08:36

I’ve had it on twice so far, only for 30 mins at a time.

Have you met the more Southern Englanders?? You're definitely hardier.

It was pissing down here yesterday - ALL DAY - and I needed to do a bit of washing, so I put the heating on purely to dry it (Just for an hour.) The house was a bit cold though so it was a bonus that it warmed the house up too...

Then we left it on 12 degrees C overnight. Got up at 7.30am today and the heating was on! It had dropped so cold overnight - (windchill of 2 degrees C outside, here in the rural countryside areas) - that the heating came on!

It's going to be nice from tomorrow though. Predicted to be 20 degrees C in parts of the UK. And nice and sunny. (For at least 5 days I think!) This bloody country! 😆

RedToothBrush · 11/09/2024 12:16

I do realise yes. I also realise it's still over 10c and it's going to get a lot colder and this is bloody ridiculous.

But carry on normalising tropical inside conditions.

Agree with this totally. People today are too sedentary and pampered. Jesus it was August 13 days ago....

forgivingfiggy · 12/09/2024 09:17

On for a boost this morning for the first time. I'm NI and it was really warm over the weekend, a huge drop the last couple of days, and forecast to be mild again in the next couple of days. I can't be doing with the chopping and changing. A gradual autumn would be nice!

So what if it was August 13 days ago? It was still 2 degrees C here last night where I live - and not much more than that elsewhere! People are allowed to put the heating on if it's cold. That's what it's for! 😆 Even the weathermen/ women on TV said it is VERY cold this week (especially overnight,) for this time of year!)

And I didn't even put my heating on last night! I left it on 12 degrees C and it came on itself, because it was so cold outside!

Your post is batshit! 😜

!

Silkinside · 12/09/2024 09:32

I don't put heating on till October and don't have it on in the day ever whilst WFH, only put it on to heat the house for the kids coming home. It does get cold though! But it costs too much to have heating on all day through the winter.

MinervaMcGonagallsCat · 12/09/2024 10:08

Mine is on again today.

Currently 6C. 🥶

If that's not ok with anyone else then you can go and raffle yourself.

We don't all live in the balmy south. 🌞

And?! It's bloody cold today. The corner where my desk is doesn't get any sun and I'm right next to an external wall and window. I've got a hoodie on but I'm still cold!

I mean, I haven't touched our heating yet but I'm not sure why it's relevant that August was only 13 days ago?

BrutusMcDogface · 12/09/2024 11:11

I’ve just put my very thick and warm dressing gown on over my clothes. Bloody freezing at home (and I’m in the south east. Sun is shining outside!)
