Is your heating on yet?

It's cold here today. Sat with a hot water bottle while working from home. Tempted to pop mine on for an hour or two.

No, it’s quite mild. I have the windows open and the sun is shining. Indoor temperature says 18 degrees.

Meadowfinch · 11/09/2024 12:35

No, of course not. I'm wearing socks for the first time since May and I have a sweater on. 😀

mitogoshi · 11/09/2024 12:35

@RedToothBrush

That's a bit bizarre as a reply. I'm at work and it's 16 degrees in my office, I have cold hands and am wearing a fleece because it's colder sitting still. Tomorrow I've set the heating to come on!

ShaunaSadeki · 11/09/2024 12:35

No but I have a big jumper on and blanket on my legs under my desk.

MonsteraMama · 11/09/2024 12:36

Not yet, though we don't tend to until there's frost on the ground (we all run hot in this house!). It is utterly miserable and cold here in North Wales today though, horizontal rain all day and a definite chill that hasn't been there before. Can't wait to walk the dogs in it later and get drowned 🙃

Vettrianofan · 11/09/2024 12:37

Had it on since beginning of August 🥶 at 23°C. Lovely and toasty.

Snippit · 11/09/2024 12:37

Nope, sheepskin boots and cardigan 😝

Legoninjago1 · 11/09/2024 12:39

Yes just put it on this morning! I've got a bloody cold too!

sleepwithblanket · 11/09/2024 12:39

Yes. Parts of Scotland had snow overnight. My heating was on this morning and it’s on at work.

TeenTraumaTrials · 11/09/2024 12:40

Ours is set to come on if it falls below 19 in the house during the day - a temperature I consider bearable, in no way tropical. It has kicked in the last few mornings for half an hour or so.

TheCrenchinglyMcQuaffenBrothers · 11/09/2024 12:41

Switched it on yesterday just to check it's all working ok and rads are coming on, ahead of when it will be needed. Won't put it on til October end, at least. We bought Oodies a few years back and they're marvellous. As we work from home, and are sitting at desks so much, it does get colder than if we were moving about, the Oodies have probably saved us quite a bit in fuel costs. It is weird though as the temp in the sitting room is 20.9 - and even if I did put the heating on it would only be up to 20 degrees, and yet because it's miserable and gloomy it somehow seems colder than it is.

Nahgiem · 11/09/2024 12:42

Yes, the temperature in the house today without heating was 15 degrees and I wouldn't let it get that low even in the depths of winter. I like a room temperature of 22 (which the living room usually gets to if the hallway thermostat is set to 20) but to save money we manage with many layers and a heated blanket at 18 degrees.

FinallyHere · 11/09/2024 12:45

Elderly DH now needs heating in all year round, significantly impaired mobility and double whammy impaired circulation. He doesn't notice getting cold and then suffers terribly when cold and takes ages to warm up.

Sigh. I wake up in a hot sweat every.single.morning.

GalileoHumpkins · 11/09/2024 12:45

No. It isn't anywhere near cold enough for the heating on.

sunsetsandboardwalks · 11/09/2024 12:47

No way, it's far too warm.

Alapotin · 11/09/2024 12:47

Yes

ALunchbox · 11/09/2024 12:57

RedToothBrush · 11/09/2024 12:16

I do realise yes. I also realise it's still over 10c and it's going to get a lot colder and this is bloody ridiculous.

But carry on normalising tropical inside conditions.

It's 8 degrees outside, and 15 inside our house right now. Is it acceptable to turn the heating on? I actually haven't but I have a blanket on me and an extra jumper.

Nahgiem · 11/09/2024 12:58

Jealous of all the people living in places where it's still too warm for the heating to be on! It was 4 degrees here overnight and 7 by the time I started work.

RedToothBrush · 11/09/2024 12:05

I think you should see a doctor about poor circulation issues.

Or consider putting on a jumper.

Flipping ridiculous.

I haven't put it on but...

I live in the Midlands but I'm from the NE, I'm pretty good with the cold. I'm WFH today in jeans, walking socks, a hoody and a hot water bottle because the temp has dropped quite dramatically today, all of a sudden and it's made me feel the cold.

You're being very judgy about someone whose clothing you can't actually see.

catmothertes1 · 11/09/2024 13:01

KimFan · 11/09/2024 12:30

Mine is regularly on when needed anytime throughout the year. I won't sit in my own home and be uncomfortable. Whenever I feel chilly, on it goes!

Finally some sense.

But it's not over 10 degrees in all of the UK. Room temperature is supposed to be about 21 and my house is 15 without heating. It's freezing if you're sitting still at a computer, even with two jumpers and a blanket! It was 4 degrees outside when I got up and it's still not hit 10. Nothing tropical going on here.

Tropical? Which part of the tropics are you thinking of? Bloody cold here today and the heating came on this morning. I'm too old to be cold these days so the heating goes on automatically if it's cold. If you are happy at 10c that's great.

I did grow up in a house with only a coal fire in one room, no other heating, ice on the inside of the (single glazed) windows upstairs and an outside toilet, wonderful if you had to go on a frosty night, that was enough.

Sometimes it feels worse at this time of year with the damp cold, if it gets really crispy cold it doesn't seem to get in your bones the same way.

captureitrememberit · 11/09/2024 13:04

Our heating isn't on till the end of November minimum. Preferably December. It's just so expensive and we simply can't afford it. We can put a jumper on and cover in blankets for free!

Really?? I'm not at home but the Hive says it's currently 17 degrees in my living room and that'll be having had the sun on it all morning. Even wearing a jumper and trousers and socks and slippers, that would be too cold for me to comfortably sit and work from home! It might warm in parts of the country but it's not everywhere. It was 6 degrees when I left for work this morning.

colouringindoors · 11/09/2024 13:05

God no.

But SE England.

Won't be on for at least another month. Blanket on sofa, slippers and cardi come first...
