It's cold here today. Sat with a hot water bottle while working from home. Tempted to pop mine on for an hour or two.

Had mine on for an hour this morning. Didn’t tell DH and walked upstairs to see him walking around without a t shirt like the dad in Friday Night Dinner

Pippifer · 11/09/2024 15:12

Yes I live in the highlands and it’s been on and off for the last couple of weeks already! It’s gone on now for good for the rest of the winter.

It was 9c here yesterday, there’s been snow on the hills overnight and a tropical 11c today 🤣

I think people also don’t realise that you do actually get colder when you’re sitting at a desk all day and not moving much.

User135644 · 11/09/2024 15:32

Feeling cold today. Temperature around 12 with really strong winds making it colder. Have avoided the heating but been wrapped up.

invisiblecat · 11/09/2024 15:35

Yes. We've got cold winds and bouts of chilly rain here.

I changed the thermostat to 21 degrees yesterday evening, and it came on for half an hour, but we turned it down again before bed as neither of us like to be hot at night. It's just come briefly on again this afternoon when I turned it back up again.

XDownwiththissortofthingX · 11/09/2024 15:36

Sitting in my knickers and a Tee with the windows wide open. 14 degrees. Nowhere near jersey temps yet, never mind heating.

No wonder people have enormous fuel bills 😐

henlake7 · 11/09/2024 15:49

The SE is that weird 'inbetweeny' weather at the moment. Meaning if its sunny and calm then its still really warm but clouds and wind and it gets really nippy.
So its all about the layers!

Funny how different people interpret it though....walking the dogs today Ive seen people in shorts and t shirts and others in puffer coats and scarves.
Im so confused!!LOL😅

Ilikewinter · 11/09/2024 16:04

Our temps been sat at 16.5 all day, WFH so feeling chilly today. I've got a small electric heater I had on to take the chill off earlier.

PemberleynotWemberley · 11/09/2024 16:08

Not til it kicks in with the thermostat at 14. I am wearing a jumper though. Edge of Dartmoor so warmer than the Highlands but colder than other areas in the South West. The wing of the house I work in is built of cobb, so naturally well insulated (unlike the windows).

GigiAnnna · 11/09/2024 16:10

No, it's not cold enough where I am. I'm comfortable without wearing a jumper and I have windows open. My house gets very cold in the winter and my bills can get high so I'm waiting until I need to put it on. I have started having the electric blanket on at night though.

AutumnFullMoon · 11/09/2024 16:12

Ours is on for a little bit in the morning. I get up in the small hours for work, and it's chilly then! Plus old house, no insulation, was unheated and shut up for years (because FIL was a miser) on the coast in very West Wales... It doesn't really take a lot for this house to feel like a cellar

JBJ · 11/09/2024 16:29

Thermostat is set at 18 and it's not come on yet. I'm currently sat with the back doors open and the ceiling fan on (I'm peri-menopausal 🤣). We were on holiday last week though and did flick the heating on there for an hour - more because we'd been out in the rain and were damp and chilled.

hugoagogo · 11/09/2024 16:45

It's lovely not being too hot, Cambridgeshire has been soo hot for months!! I know it's not the same everywhere

AutumnFullMoon · 11/09/2024 17:06

Forgot to say it's only a little electric radiator on a timer in the bedroom that comes on, we don't have central heating in the house 🙈

Boomer55 · 11/09/2024 17:06

No, I haven’t. It’s 23 degrees in here. 🤷‍♀️

Just4thisthreadtoday · 11/09/2024 17:21

MinervaMcGonagallsCat · 11/09/2024 14:08

Mines been on since early august at least a few hours a day.

Now at the lint of just putting it back on entirely.

It's freezing. 🥶

@MinervaMcGonagallsCat

ehere abouts are you?

Blondeshavemorefun · 11/09/2024 17:28

Yes. Was cold

Put it on for 20mins. House for warm. I was happy

I don't see the point in being cold when no need

Obv I wouldn't have the heating on 24/7 in sept

But if cold then yes I nudge the thermostat till clicks

Blondeshavemorefun · 11/09/2024 17:30

Got ffs

When will we be able to edit in the app !!!!

Nap1983 · 11/09/2024 17:30

Yeah mines is on today and its not the first time… only in living room and DH office so far as those tend to get colder. Never have on in my bedroom even in minus temps, and my DD room is still fine. I refuse to sit and be cold in my house. Im in Scotland too.

Boriswentcamping · 11/09/2024 17:32

Funny how different everybody's houses are. We are south east in an overheating new build... I've had the windows open today as usual and it's still 23/24 upstairs with no heating on...

I'm looking forward to it cooling down a bit and being able to sleep a bit easier at night! If it was cold I would put the heating on the though

PizzaPowder · 11/09/2024 17:33

I’m in Scotland. Think it’s only been off for a few days 😀

catscarestars · 11/09/2024 17:34

Nooooooo

CrossUniStudent · 11/09/2024 17:36

No but my duvet is going back on tonight

Hatty65 · 11/09/2024 17:37

No, although it feels cold. I daren't put the heating on yet or we won't be able to afford the bills. Once you've had it on for the evening, or 'just a couple of hours' it seems to me that it's impossible to not just keep putting in on every evening after that, as you do feel the cold.

I can't afford to have the heating on at all outside a couple of hours in an evening Nov - end of Feb. That's four full months. However cold it is outside those months we don't put it on.

Just4thisthreadtoday · 11/09/2024 17:45

KenIsAnAccessory · 11/09/2024 14:14

It was 5 degrees outside this morning, and going down to 2 overnight where I am. Also live in a big old draughty cold house and (ironically given the post that won dick head bingo 🤣) I do actually have issues with my circulation.

I hadn't realised this would spark such lively debate, was expecting a very British conversation about the weather 🙈

@KenIsAnAccessory

Welcome to Mumsnet!

You must be new to think that 🤣🤣

Same threads every year, MN might as well just repost them year on year 🤣🤣

I quite like the predictability of them, it's a comfort in a weird way.

I'm usually heating the planet & its worse now as I have diabetes & menopause...

Im in North Hampshire I'm wearing shorts & t shirt and still a bit too warm. It's been a sunny, but windy day here. No clouds. Then about 45 minutes ago it went very dark out, thunder & a right downpour. Objectively I felt the suddden drop in temperature, but I'm still warm.

it's now blue sky. The light is back.

I can but dream of needing a blanket or hot water bottle.

But people, houses & areas are different & sometimes you just want the house too be a nice temperature rather than being wrapped up like a mummy.

if you want to put the heating on & you can still afford to eat if you do, then do it.

yes we need to look after the planet, but we also need to look after ourselves. No point living longer, just to be miserable!

KenIsAnAccessory · 11/09/2024 11:57

It's cold here today. Sat with a hot water bottle while working from home. Tempted to pop mine on for an hour or two.

Had to put mine on an hour ago. Couldn't stand the cold hands any longer. (Think I have Raynaud's - never bothered with a diagnosis, but it got worse when I hit 60.)

Also use mugs of hot drinks to keep the hands warm.

I'm in Central East Scotland.
