Happy to see Princess Kate doing so well, but...

I'm really glad to see Kate doing so well, and I am glad she has finished chemo looking so healthy and happy. However my sister and I cannot stop laughing at the video Kensington Palace have just released.

We think the video has a striking resemblance to the Twilight films, only warm toned and shorter.

Narration - check
Holding hands while lying down in a meadow - check
Tree climbing - check
Stacks of logs - check
Dramatic sweeping shots of trees - check

I was waiting for William to say something really cringy while giving Kate a piggy back ride.

I thought it was nice and I can see why they did it.
DD (21) got Center Parcs vibes and I got 1970s Flake advert vibes

They said on the news that she hadn’t specifically said she is cancer-free

She said at the end of the video something what she needs to do to "stay cancer free" I thought.

BitOutOfPractice · 09/09/2024 19:11

I cringed and wept throughout. It was quite the rollercoaster.

I was glad to hear her misquote the motto of my beloved football club though because I do think it’s a great maxim for life.

I like it and they've been through a lot. Who knows how they really felt behind closed doors, probably like many families who have a loved ones with cancer, lots of tears and fear and the worry if they'll survive.

They look happy and that can only be a good thing. Why people feel the need to be nasty about the health of a young woman who let's be honest, hasn't done anything bad towards anyone is low.

tiredhv · 09/09/2024 19:11

It was a bit much wasnt it

It just shows how nasty and bitter some people are .

This. ^ Some truly vile and nasty posts on here. Best to not engage with these posters really.

Oh give over, people are allowed to discuss whatever they like. I doubt the Royals give a flying fuck what Mumsnet thinks.

Well quite.

But it's more about wondering why people aren't looking at themselves, and wondering why they feel the need to put the boot in publicly?

No doubt they'll be the same people who tell their kids not to be nasty to each other.

Pure cringe. And people are fawning over it 😂

No fawning just calling out a rather nasty and unnecessary thread.

DrummingMousWife · 09/09/2024 19:12

it was nice , I thought. It is about giving others courage and understanding that if she can do it, they can too.
I think it’s sad that anything other than that is taken from
this really.

Scottishgirl85 · 09/09/2024 19:13

I thought it was lovely and brought me to tears. If you've been through cancer, it resonates.

Hallamlass · 09/09/2024 19:13

Here we go. So predictable. Nastiness and snide remarks, I just knew it would be the case on here.

Boidont · 09/09/2024 19:14

Oh my god this is very New Moon

WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout · 09/09/2024 19:14

Cancer is a leveller. No matter how rich you are (edit) not protected. William so much privilege and yet he lost his mother at a young age. His father and wife both had cancer at the same time. Can’t have been easy.

BitOutOfPractice · 09/09/2024 19:14

I don’t think anyone disagrees with the message as such. I think it’s more the rather schmaltzy production values that are being mocked.

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 09/09/2024 19:15

She's had a truly shit time as have her family. Those poor kids probably thought there was a chance they could lose their mum.

Yes she's loaded and privileged. Yes she's had access to medical care way beyond our reach. But that's life. Or death I guess.

So she can tell us all how she's doing anyway she likes. I felt quite emotional at one point.

Will Charles and Camilla do the sequel?

Camilla with a fag in her hand twirling around accidentally setting fire to the meadow, whilst Charles merrily frolicks along flying a kite 😂

This. There were so many nasty threads on here a few months back. Horrible.

Is mocking necessary?

Dr13Hadley · 09/09/2024 19:19

I'm really on the fence here. I think if it gives people hope and comfort then all good. It's none of my business what the Royals do and I'm glad she's on the mend. BUT there is a little voice in my head wondering whether the combined wardrobe of theirs for that video probably cost the equivalent of feeding a regular family of five for 6-8 months.

It's very sad she's had cancer etc etc but she has a hell of a lot less to worry about than the majority of normal people. That's why I can get all tearful and emotional over it. They are so far removed from reality it grates that they try so hard to be seen as a "normal family".

LoneHydrangea · 09/09/2024 19:20

I tried to get my son to watch it just now. He lasted 10 nauseated seconds.

What were they thinking?

The transcript would’ve been nice as a statement. Did we need all the soft focus, strings, and over-production? Hilarious.

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 09/09/2024 19:21

Given the treatment levels and access to care she’s had would not be routinely available on the NHS, the comments about it being a leveller are rather in bad taste. Sadly, it does matter how rich you are to your chance of cancer survival in the UK. (Our family members had to go private for cancer treatment.)

It's revolting. "Look at my lovely life, that none of you plebs can hope to get close to. I've been ill with something 50% of people get, but you all have to talk about how brave I am, and thanks to the best treatment money can buy, I'm nice and well again."
