Happy to see Princess Kate doing so well, but...

I'm really glad to see Kate doing so well, and I am glad she has finished chemo looking so healthy and happy. However my sister and I cannot stop laughing at the video Kensington Palace have just released.

We think the video has a striking resemblance to the Twilight films, only warm toned and shorter.

Tree climbing - check
Stacks of logs - check
Dramatic sweeping shots of trees - check

I was waiting for William to say something really cringy while giving Kate a piggy back ride.

My mum sent us the video, she had cancer, and found our twilight comparison funny.

And this makes you want to start a public thread, laughing at this video?

I'm glad she's ok and I actually think what she says in the video is quite moving but the visuals are so cheesy, it's like a bad Center Parcs ad.

Sorry but this made me laugh- it reminded me of the Haven Holidays ad from a couple of years ago.

it’s pretty naff and twee, but I’m glad she’s on the mend.

FacingTheWall · 09/09/2024 18:32

I think they just wanted to be in control of what was released and thought people would enjoy seeing a bit of their family life, as a thank you for the support of the public this year. Yes, it is like a commercial, but nice to see everyone looking happy and having fun.

It just seems so out of character for her, for both of them. They usually seem so private and reserved.

I’m sure Kate enjoyed making it, and it was her decision to do it. That’s all that matters.

Meh, the palace put this out for the public to watch- people are allowed to have opinions on things the royals do.

BigWillyLittleTodger · 09/09/2024 18:34

It’s a very similar style to the beach video they did a couple of years ago and that was criticised for being like a Boden advert, whatever they do they will be criticised, they can’t win with some people.

My first thought was: Happy News that a Mother of 3 young children is going to survive cancer. My 2nd thought was: its a bit like the perfect C Parcs ad. I think it was the focus on the leaf which reminded me of their logo? The words were quite sweet/ well meant (although there are many in the UK struggling to access proper healthcare) but the visuals were a bit OTT. Perhaps they feel they need to 'mark' this point (I too remember the crazy threads). Good luck to her & her family.

Aww you and your sister sound absolutely lovely, laughing at someone who’s made an expressive video after they’ve faced cancer.

would love to see you both, bet you’re perfect. Why don’t you come up with a video of you both, wonder what the comments would be!

Oh give over, people are allowed to discuss whatever they like. I doubt the Royals give a flying fuck what Mumsnet thinks.

They must be big fans of Gladiator! I know I am.

The "hands through wheat field" motif is from Terence Malick. Ridley Scott stole/borrowed it from him.

It reminds me of the trailer for The Tree of Life or the video for Light Years by The National.

Beautifully shot by whoever did it.

HateSpewingTurnip · 09/09/2024 18:38

The sepia fake film reel bit reminded me of that horror film with Ethan Hawke, Sinister 😱

Samcro · 09/09/2024 18:38

So glad to hear she is on the mend.

MaidOfSteel · 09/09/2024 18:40

I'm just happy to hear that the Princess is cancer free. Brought a tear to my eye.

Ratherubbish · 09/09/2024 18:41

I like this direct way by KM to share her update. It could not have been an easy journey so it is quite brave in a way.

LibertyStars · 09/09/2024 18:42

Good news that she is recovering. I thought the video was interesting- seems like a new direction for their comms and a greater effort to actively manage the public perception of the family. I think this is probably the right decision, as leaving things unsaid previously led to the public filling the gap with all sorts of nasty gossip.

itsgettingweird · 09/09/2024 18:42

I loved it.

She doesn't owe us anything. But yet she explained the journey beautifully.

If you've been through the cancer journey you may appreciate her words (I did) that remind you to live for the moment.

leaderZ · 09/09/2024 18:45

Wow so beautiful
Poor thing
So much grace

Doseofreality · 09/09/2024 18:47

It’s an absolute self indulgent wank fest. How much public money was wasted on that.

You are not the only one that laughed.

HeySummerWhereAreYou · 09/09/2024 18:47

Twilight film vibes?! Hmm FFS @JustPassingThyme !!!

I can't unsee it now! 😂

On a serious note, it's great to see Catherine on the mend.

Yellowbananasarebetterthangreen · 09/09/2024 18:49

I think its adorable.

Clearly filmed specifically for the video but unlike in previous Royal Family stuff (decades ago) this is by comparison so much more natural and genuine.
And its obvious that William and Kate still clearly adore each other. Plus the obvious love they have for their kids and the kids for their parents.

I wondered how much it cost too. And who paid. And how much that compares to say, the cost of a straight piece to camera message from her.

Bubb13Wrap · 09/09/2024 18:50

I think it will be appreciated by many on a cancer journey.
