Happy to see Princess Kate doing so well, but...

I'm really glad to see Kate doing so well, and I am glad she has finished chemo looking so healthy and happy. However my sister and I cannot stop laughing at the video Kensington Palace have just released.

We think the video has a striking resemblance to the Twilight films, only warm toned and shorter.

You make them sound like victims. The problem with William and Kate is they take themselves too seriously. King Charles has more personality than the two of them put together.

You talk like you know them! As for their staff, they have a reasonably high turnover of staff with lots of new appointments (new private secretaries continually) so as I say, you don't know that their staff have stayed with them for years.

That is very different to critiquing the content of a video though which we are watching precisely because she holds a public role.

When Harry was around them they were likable. On their own they are too serious. King Charles says it like it is and moves on.

I agree that they have to tread a fine line between revealing too much, and saying too little and it’s an extremely difficult balance to
get right.

They are obviously trying out a new PR strategy and my personal view is that it’s not a good direction to go in.

On the one hand, it’s very good that they pre-empted further speculation. And that Catherine said what she wanted to say.

On the other hand, the late Queen knew that idealistic portrayals were dangerous ground for obvious reasons.

Plus I think the video would have been more tuned in to public life had it focused on a cancer charity or some such, rather than focusing on personal family shots in a rural setting, but my tastes are old-fashioned.

I think William and Kate are getting tips from Harry and Meghan. Whether you like or dislike the video it doesn't matter because we are all talking about it. They are keeping themselves relevant. I don't think the king has very long. In the next 10 years we will see a new king.

I suspect it’s a one-off actually to deal with the fallout around accusations of not informing at the beginning/ where is Kate etc etc.

This was a memorable “ statement” such that noone could overlook it, it didn’t hide anyone away, it showed the children walking, running and talking to diminish risks of people saying Louis was wearing Charlotte’s hand etc and, best of all from their perspective, the music and voiceover meant they completely controlled the narrative- no awkward interview questions etc. Of course her video earlier on also did that, but perhaps the closeness in style to a journalistic interview of her sitting looking at the camera and talking highlighted the fact questions were not possible. This blurred that by presenting in more of an advert/ music video style where you wouldn’t expect the participants to have to face journalistic questioning. Yet they had unequivocally communicated something. I suspect it was a “ treatment” for the specific situation rather than their new way of doing things. I also think it was more Kate’s thing and Kate’s style for Kate’s issue. I can’t really imagine William releasing this style of communication if he goes in for an operation.

William and Katehave already won in the lottery of life. They don't need to take any notice of social media or who likes them or not or who employs them for work or not. That is the difference between them and celebrities. Celebrities need to promote themselves in order to get work and pay their bills ( even Harry and Meghan. Harrys shock at finding out how much things cost is as a result of him having everything handed to him on a plate most of his life) They don't. So the fact they do it just seems like pure vanity and self preservation. So what if people are complaining and coming up with conspiracy theories about them? The story will move on. They could photograph themselves surrounded by doctors and nurses and round the clock grapes on gold platters. Some people will be outraged, some people would say they deserve it. The late Queen understood her privilege and duty to the nation and in turn got the nation's respect. She had her finger on the pulse and preserved the dignity of the Royal Family far more than William (or Kate) ever would.

I'd be massively surprised if W&C were taking any tips from H&M!! They are hardly people to emulate.

I think they were trying to modernise their approach but I'm just a bit uncomfortable with it. I'm not sure I want to see PDAs any more than seeing H&M desperately clutch onto each other at all times. I kinda hope it's a one-off.
