Happy to see Princess Kate doing so well, but...

I'm really glad to see Kate doing so well, and I am glad she has finished chemo looking so healthy and happy. However my sister and I cannot stop laughing at the video Kensington Palace have just released.

We think the video has a striking resemblance to the Twilight films, only warm toned and shorter.

Narration - check
Holding hands while lying down in a meadow - check
Tree climbing - check
Stacks of logs - check
Dramatic sweeping shots of trees - check

I was waiting for William to say something really cringy while giving Kate a piggy back ride.

I liked it. They can't seem to do right for doing wrong. I think they're trying to make themselves more relevant rather than the regal content we were used to when Queen Elizabeth was alive. Was nice to see the 5 of them in downtime mode 😊

Just making a comment on how Meghan would be torn apart if they had done this.

EveryTree · 09/09/2024 19:41

I have had cancer and I think its cringy.

It's a bit different. I'm glad she is doing well and looking healthy after going through her treatment.

I think it's probably done to "make up" for the lack of appearances over the last year. Keeping the press and public happy with family footage but in a controlled way.

The kids look very happy and natural which is nice.

EveryTree · 09/09/2024 19:42

@ByPithyLion they are not in downtime mode. This is an advert.

stripybobblehat · 09/09/2024 19:43

Omg leave her be!!!

An advert for what?

Csdrassticcallychanginngnnammes · 09/09/2024 19:44

I’m pleased her treatment is over and I wish her and her family well. However, it’s not a video to celebrate her being free of cancer, as someone said up thread. That particular celebration is a long way off yet.

My mum sent us the video, she had cancer, and found our twilight comparison funny.

Just because your Mum had cancer doesn’t make you or her an authority on others cancer experiences. There are people reading your piss take who are at the beginning or middle of their cancer journeys. Pretty sick that you are laughing that someone is being triumphant at recovering from the vile disease. Good luck to her and her family. Surely you could have thought of something else to draw attention to yourself?

An advert for what?

For the Royal Family.

Globules · 09/09/2024 19:46

There are some horrid people on this thread.

A mum of three has been treated for cancer. Whilst she isn't the first and won't be the last, this mum is one day going to be Queen of The United Kingdom and the Commonwealth. Millions of people across the world care about her health and her family.

A statement is old school Royals. A video is new Royals. This is how you would expect the future King to engage with the Insta generation he will one day be the head of state of.

Someone needs to remind some of you that if you haven't got anything nice to say, then don't say anything at all.

The video style will suit some, it won't suit others. I'm sure it suited the family, else it would never have been released.

Personally, I had my eyes on the fact that she's not wearing her engagement ring. I was glad about this, as no one wants that jewel getting saltwater and logs all over it.

frustratedhuman · 09/09/2024 19:47

I love it. They're going to be a fantastic King and Queen.

Just making a comment on how Meghan would be torn apart if they had done this.

She did an entire series! Granted, it was less uplifting and she got paid $$$$ for it. So not exactly the same.

Oh my! It feels like an advert to join a cult, or for sanitary products in parts.

My thoughts exactly 😂 - it was s Scientology recruitment film

Fhs the op’s first sentence is “I'm really glad to see Kate doing so well, and I am glad she has finished chemo looking so healthy and happy.”

Are you not able to comprehend that an opinion about Catherine’s health and an opinion about a really dreadful PR film, are two very separate things?

bookworm14 · 09/09/2024 19:50

I thought it was lovely and I’m very far from being a royalist.

EveryTree · 09/09/2024 19:50

DO and I joked when I had cancer that there were some people who would excuse anything I did or said because I had cancer. I think a comedian did a really good skit about this once?
Having cancer is not a card that means we have to say that everything that person does or says is wonderful. And no one is personally criticising Catherine. Just saying the video is cringy and cheesy.

Tomorrowjustyouwaitandsee · 09/09/2024 19:52

Hallamlass · 09/09/2024 19:30

It's always like this when the topic is Kate and William.

Nonsense! People are commenting on the film, not them personally. They have been poorly advised imho.

raspberriez · 09/09/2024 19:53

This! I’m so happy that she seems to be doing well and she looks amazing, but the video is really cringy to me! I doubt Kate directed, produced and styled it etc so not a criticism of her at all 🤷‍♀️

LoneHydrangea · 09/09/2024 19:53

I agree. It’s possible to wish Kate well whilst also considering this video is somewhat ridiculous. I really don’t get the unquestioning sycophancy.

RedHotChilliPreppers · 09/09/2024 19:55

I took from that a few messages.

A message of support to those suffering from cancer and their families.

A message to say that her priorities have changed and it’s all about family now

A message to say she’ll be back at work a bit, but the soap opera brain dead Brits are no longer her priority, so don’t bank on things ever going back to normal.

I think Kate has had an epiphany. The stress of being a Queen in waiting, the family dramas, popping out 3 heirs when it made her so sick she had to be admitted to hospital, the media hyenas, have all contributed to her being ill and she’s decided, fuck that. I just want to be with my DC and the Middletons.

lightsandtunnels · 09/09/2024 19:55

Love this. I'm taking it in the way I believe it was meant to come across. Hope, love and family.

I do find it unfortunate that many people are negative and say how PofW experience is so far removed from the normal public person, navigating work, kids, childcare etc. while she has had the best of everything.

But I think they are missing the point. No amount of money, Norland Nannies, huge luxury homes, private healthcare can take away the fact that you are having treatment for cancer and you might die as a result. It's a real leveller.

I wish her and her family well and hope she enjoys good health for a long time to come.

Pickwickbasketcase · 09/09/2024 19:55

Also good to hear she is doing well. I've had a few family members who have been effected by Cancer and it's an awful disease.

Agree with the video though, it reminded me of something like Virgin River with the filming style. it's not my cup of tea. Maybe they have a new comms person and this is the new style. Lots of people do seem to like it though.

LoobyDoop2 · 09/09/2024 19:55

I don’t know what the people who are complaining about twee cliché wanted to see. A remake of Saltburn? Featuring Megan Thee Stallion?

And I think she didn’t say “I am now cancer-free” because that was already the case. It was preventative chemo, so presumably they got all the cancer cells with previous surgery. This was just to make sure none resurfaced.

And point 3, I really like her dress. I notice she’s still wearing white trainers with it.

itsgettingweird · 09/09/2024 18:42

I loved it.

She doesn't owe us anything. But yet she explained the journey beautifully.

If you've been through the cancer journey you may appreciate her words (I did) that remind you to live for the moment.

Definitely this. Her words rang true for me, having been there myself.
