Happy to see Princess Kate doing so well, but...

I'm really glad to see Kate doing so well, and I am glad she has finished chemo looking so healthy and happy. However my sister and I cannot stop laughing at the video Kensington Palace have just released.

We think the video has a striking resemblance to the Twilight films, only warm toned and shorter.

Narration - check
Holding hands while lying down in a meadow - check
Tree climbing - check
Stacks of logs - check
Dramatic sweeping shots of trees - check

I was waiting for William to say something really cringy while giving Kate a piggy back ride.

@Lizzie67384 I imagine having the future King in the local kebab shop at pub kicking out time might be a bit of a security nightmare Grin

Couldn’t he drive to the restaurant?

I guess he could drive there but it's still a bit of a security nightmare for him to be rocking up at any take-away.

I guess the point I was trying to make was that he was at pains to show how ‘normal’ he was by ordering a takeaway on a Friday night but when questioned he said that staff would collect for him - so just illustrates the privileged lives they lead

Well lots of people would Op to have their take-away delivered.

On one hand it's privileged but on the other its a bit of a gilded cage.
Not being able just to wander down the street and decide which takeaway you fancy.

He wasn’t saying he was having it delivered tho - he was saying a member of his staff was driving to pick it up for him

I get that but it's probably easier to send a member of staff to collect, than again have the security risk of random drivers coming into any of the Royal Palaces.

I bet the takeaway have no idea who they are actually providing food for either.

Not to mention thst when he has a takeaway curry he's just getting someone else other than the cook to cook for him. It's not a break from the daily grind of cooking every day. Just like when they ' cook meals for the family' and ' go to the supermarket ' they do it because they fancy a taste of ordinary life, as if our lives are like an entertaining break from their norm. Not because there's no one else to do it.

That's true they could easily have someone else cook dinner if they wanted them do.

I'd love to know how all these brown nosers would react if Harry and Meghan came out with a video like this. Talk about having a happy life so not understanding the hatred, yet this is the same people who call then out for everything.

DramaLlamaBangBang · 13/09/2024 11:25

And also say they are irrelevant yet bring them up in every conversation about any member of the Royal Family, and often in stories about other Black/ mixed heritage/American woman they don't like. Leave them the fuck alone and they will become irrelevant. Constantly talking about them at every opportunity, they won't be.

BustingBaoBun · 13/09/2024 11:52

Agree. Every thread about any Royal always ends up as a 'let's go on and on about Harry & Meghan and how awful they are'... thread.
It's really boring and stops any meaningful discussion. Like a recent thread about Royal PR. It was interesting. Not now.
Shame.

It’s an absolute self indulgent wank fest. How much public money was wasted on that.

You are not the only one that laughed.

What a horrible, horrible thing to say.

@Curtainsformeplease

I heard the same , they said her chemo was over but did not say she was cancer free .

She referred to remaining cancer free.

They could have done, but they chose not to. They chose to rub our faces in their wealth and privilege instead. Nice.

That's just bollocks.

On a human level I cannot imagine how stressful it must have been to have been diagnosed with, and treated for, cancer. This also applies to anyone else who is in the same position. However I'm also acutely conscious that financially she has access to the best healthcare that money than buy and will never have to worry about keeping a roof over her head - unlike many other people living with cancer. I think the film demonstrates they have an excellent PR team who are working very hard on their public image but have gone too far on this occasion. I think the film is ridiculous and potentially offensive to anyone who is in a similar position healthwise but isn't in a similar position in terms of wealth and privilege. A simple statement accompanied by a low key return to her duties as and when she is well enough would have been far more appropriate.

I don't see any reason to compare her treatment to the treatment that other cancer sufferers receive. It's pointless. Her privilege is just a fact of life that can't be changed! It's irrelevant

Cancer is a leveller though. Any sufferer is faced with their own mortality, privileged or not. And William and Kate will face the same uncertainty about their future as any other couple in similar circumstances, and feel the same dread of it coming back. No amount of money changes that.

I like the idea of the video. I love the affection and intimacy of it, and I think the emotions are genuine, I do think it's been done in a bit of a cringey way.

She and to a lesser extent William are just like Harry and Meghan: they want all the fun and glamorous bits of royal life but not the graft
Totally agree with this. They are both the same. The only difference is that the pR comparison between the two makes one pair more ' hardworking' than the other and as a result they get overly praised and excused for the minimal effort they put in. I disagree about the ' to a lesser extent' regarding William. His bare minimum has to be higher than the rest because he expects and wants to be King. Both him and Kates ' life's work' is the same as the rest of the RF- keeping their family on the Throne. Everything else they do is to that end.

Massive difference! William and Catherine aren't hawking the lives of their family for cold, hard, cash! They're also not setting out to seek the limelight.

Runnerinthenight · 13/09/2024 20:01

Lizzie67384 · 11/09/2024 18:16

Well rather being a bit lonely than not being able to get a cancer diagnosis on time or timely treatment

That's not Kate's fault.

HamSad · 13/09/2024 20:06

"illiam and Catherine aren't hawking the lives of their family for cold, hard, cash"

They aren't, because they don't need to - they never need to make any effort because it's all handed to them on a plate. They spend our money on jewels and art that we have no access to, and wanky self-indulgent short films about how perfect their lives are, and there's nothing we can do about it.

Runnerinthenight · 13/09/2024 20:07

CurlewKate · 12/09/2024 06:59

What would happen if William abdicated and Harry became king? I know a lot of people would be pissed off-but what would actually change? Wouldn't we just have a marginally better looking figurehead?

We most definitely would not have a "marginally better looking figurehead"! William is much more attractive than Harry!

Runnerinthenight · 13/09/2024 20:12

Meecrowavay · 12/09/2024 09:41

You've awoken the Harry and Meg haters to the thread 😅

A 'King Harry' would be much better suited to what is modern royal life and modern Britain. I think most would agree on that. He's just a naturally better and warmer communicator and more personable than any of the other senior royals. William can't really help that, but it is the reality. William could of course readdress this imbalance by being a conscientious and hard working public servant though. Ha.

We all just skirting round William's affair(s) too? Probably not the time. It's why I won't gun for Kate directly. She's put up with a lot. The PR film that also doubles up as a "look how strong our marriage is because I'm patting her head" message was interesting to me though.

That's such a pile of steaming crap!

Runnerinthenight · 13/09/2024 20:14

Lizzie67384 · 12/09/2024 09:54

Do you know Harry or William in a personal capacity?

You don't need to!!!

Runnerinthenight · 13/09/2024 20:16

LoneHydrangea · 12/09/2024 15:23

I like Harry and think he’s a much more likeable character than his brother. But as if he’d ever be king! He’d not want to for starters.

He’s happy and wise to be out of that awful royal family. I’m sure he’s having a wonderful life now.

I thoroughly disagree that the ginger whinger is more "likeable" than his brother. The lying weasel is not likeable at all. And I say that as someone who did like him pre-Meghan.

He'd be back like a shot if he could have the top dog. Meghan would break the land speed record to be Queen!!

And I'm not so sure he's "having a wonderful life now" either...

I've been told off before about this-but George has the look of an anxious child to me.

Where did you achieve your qualification in child psychology then?

Plus you have only ever seen him in public - how can you tell ffs?
