What foods are you obsessed with at the moment?

I go through phases of being obsessed with particular foods - sometimes whole meals and other times just ingredients.

Right now, I'm obsessed with basil. I'll eat anything with basil on or it in, and I like randomly chewing on basil leaves while I'm pottering in the kitchen.

I'm also obsessed with alioli. Anything that can be dipped in alioli, will be.

I bought some linseeds at the weekend for a recipe and then read about sprinkling them on to yogurt. Linseeds in strawberry yogurt is now fully lodged in my brain and I'm genuinely looking forward to stopping by the shop tomorrow to buy some yogurt.

What's floating your boat at the minute?

Try cream cheese and sliced strawberries on your bagel - it's delicious!

Ohhh I’ll give that a go tomorrow - thank you! 😋

Is anyone old enough to remember lemon meringue crunch? Came in a box with packet mixes inside?
You can't get it any more as far as I know and for years I tried many and varied disappointing lemon meringue pies, tarts etc but none were ever right. 😪
Lemon too tart or bland, the meringue too fluffy. Boring pastry when I wanted a biscuit base.

But now, I have discovered Iceland's lemon meringue cheesecake.
Well, they CALL it a cheesecake but I can't detect any cheesecake taste or texture in the lemon filling. It's a lemon meringue crunch all right. One bite and I was ten years old again.

I buy them 2 at a time (they're frozen) and I must have eaten at least ten of them over the last few months. I can't get enough of them 😂
Ahhh nostalgia!

Truffle flavour. I find it addictive and just completely unique and delicious!

See up thread for my recommendation. Tyrell’s truffle flavour crisps.

I had a little rabbit and bacon pie from a county show on Sunday afternoon and it was delicious. Since then it's all been about pies but I haven't found one as good yet.

Aubergine slices spread with harissa and roasted with tomatoes and red onion. Delicious hot or cold.

Portabello Mushrooms with a teaspoon of mushroom ketchup in each, a generous sprinkle of nutritional yeast and some grated cheddar roasted. So simple but so yummy!

I could eat those two meals on rotation.

Mushroom ketchup?? This sounds amazing!

Cold new potatoes with salad cream.

DH's favourite thing in the world is cold roast potatos with thick slices of butter and cheddar cheese. I make extra potatoes specifically designed for the cheese extravaganza. (His other great love is boiled beetroot in white sauce, so not entirely sure his taste buds are to be trusted).

teatoast8 · 09/09/2024 20:28

My mum had this with Brunswick ham a few years ago in Sainsbury's!

She got a certificate and a free pack of ham.

We took the piss for ages cos she lives alone and doesn't eat much meat or even live by a Sainsbury's.

She buys it for the cat 🤣

I have never met anyone else who's had one!

spikeandbuffy · 09/09/2024 20:38

@Toastandbutterand I do also like that ham!

I actually shop 90% at Aldi but do a special Sainsburys trip just for my gherkins

My mum walks 45 minutes to Sainsbury's once a week just for the cats ham.

He has it sprinkled on his breakfast.

It is good ham. I mght try the gherkins now too!

Marmite27 · 09/09/2024 20:43

I go to Sainsbury’s specifically for their taste the difference sweet chilli beetroot. I’ve managed to wean myself down to two packets a week.

A PP mentioned spicy beetroot and cottage cheese, as cottage cheese is the current obsession, I’m going to have to give the combo a go!

notnorman · 09/09/2024 20:50
