What foods are you obsessed with at the moment?

I go through phases of being obsessed with particular foods - sometimes whole meals and other times just ingredients.

Right now, I'm obsessed with basil. I'll eat anything with basil on or it in, and I like randomly chewing on basil leaves while I'm pottering in the kitchen.

I'm also obsessed with alioli. Anything that can be dipped in alioli, will be.

I bought some linseeds at the weekend for a recipe and then read about sprinkling them on to yogurt. Linseeds in strawberry yogurt is now fully lodged in my brain and I'm genuinely looking forward to stopping by the shop tomorrow to buy some yogurt.

What's floating your boat at the minute?

I really like Soreen at the moment
Other than that I'm gearing up for classic autumn recipes - lots of fruit crumble and soup and bread baking. Lovely!

Oh I absolutely love basil too OP and am currently in a ‘2 bags of basil in the weekly shop’ phase 🥲 current foods I keep gravitating towards;

Cream cheese (or burrata if I have it) tomatoes, basil and a sprinkle of salt on either the nice new little Italian crackers in Aldi or toasted baguette

Flips chocolate covered pretzels

Crumpets

Frozen mango smoothies with Greek yog

Revels. 😳

EngineEngineNumber9 · 09/09/2024 13:11

Melba thins with butter

Melting Biscoff spread and cocoa powder in the microwave then mixing in Aldi Coco Pops

homemade sorbet made by blitzing frozen berries, egg whites and sugar together

Yes I 100% go through food obsessions. I have a few at the moment.

longley farm cottage cheese - again on its own just from the tub.

meals:
tadka dhal with a chapatti
cauliflower cheese, with mash and roasted courgettes.
mushroom cuppa soup with buttered white bread.

Hot crumpets, oozing butter and topped with slowly melting Pie d'Angloys cheese. Perfect Sunday morning treat with orange juice and fresh coffee.

Sarson's mixed pickles specifically the pickled cauliflower but I eat the pickled onions and pickles too 😂
I've eaten a jar in 3 days and I'm on to my second

OrinocoFlew · 09/09/2024 13:17

Chicken gyros, particularly from Taka Taka (which I think is a local chain, but could easily be an evil multinational i suppose) I could eat it it every day. I certainly think about it several times a day.

Sparkletastic · 09/09/2024 13:18

The 'Everything Bagel' dip. God it's moreish.

For a few months now I have been making a paste of olive oil, garlic powder, onion powder, sweet paprika, turmeric, cinammon and honey and smearing it all over chicken thighs then roasting them.

That sounds delightful! I'm going to try it!

viques · 09/09/2024 13:20

Tyrell’s truffle flavour crisps. I had given up buying crisps because they have become so ridiculously expensive for half a thinly sliced potato cooked in oil, but OMG I would walk over sharp gravel barefoot for these.

And flips chocolate pretzels. Half the fun is working out where the supermarket thinks they belong, with biscuits, with pretzels, with snacks, with crisps….. just put the damn things in a big box by the check out tills please, life is too short.

TheFormidableMrsC · 09/09/2024 13:21

For lunch today I had some gorgeous artisan bread that a friend bought for me, all nutty and delicious with a big dollop of chilli crushed avocado. Divine. Followed by a Curly Wurly 🥰

We are just back from a holiday in Norway so I am preparing for an obsession with dark rye bread and smoked salmon for lunch for the next few weeks as well as snacking on Norwegian brown cheese.

BreatheAndFocus · 09/09/2024 13:21

Aubergine slices spread with harissa and roasted with tomatoes and red onion. Delicious hot or cold.

Portabello Mushrooms with a teaspoon of mushroom ketchup in each, a generous sprinkle of nutritional yeast and some grated cheddar roasted. So simple but so yummy!

I could eat those two meals on rotation.

I got obsessed with Kvikk Lunsj (sp?) bars when I went to Norway. So much nicer than KitKats 😋

This is random but I'm fixated on Birdseye vegetable rice with boneless chicken wings/shredded chicken with bisto southern gravy, it's quick & easy in the evening once kids are asleep.
