What foods are you obsessed with at the moment?

I go through phases of being obsessed with particular foods - sometimes whole meals and other times just ingredients.

Right now, I'm obsessed with basil. I'll eat anything with basil on or it in, and I like randomly chewing on basil leaves while I'm pottering in the kitchen.

I'm also obsessed with alioli. Anything that can be dipped in alioli, will be.

I bought some linseeds at the weekend for a recipe and then read about sprinkling them on to yogurt. Linseeds in strawberry yogurt is now fully lodged in my brain and I'm genuinely looking forward to stopping by the shop tomorrow to buy some yogurt.

What's floating your boat at the minute?

Cornettos and cold Kit Kats are my current crave!

Don’t usually bother with either .. but Iceland had offers on a few weeks ago …

Hoping it’ll fade as the weather is getting cooler. It can’t carry on, I’m getting a bit 🐷

Lakeyloo · 09/09/2024 13:48

Greek salad (probably something to do with the fact that all of our tomatoes and cucumbers have ripened at once) ... as a side or a big bowl on its own for lunch. Decent olive oil bought back from Greece, black olives, red onion, feta and a sprinkle of dried oregano. Could eat it at every meal at the moment.

Also just discovered sweet and spicy wotsit crunchies, and have a current addiction to Asda extra special Parmesan & Garlic Twists.

Thisoldheartofmine · 09/09/2024 13:49

Yes to Lidls poke bowls.

stayathomer · 09/09/2024 13:50

The expensive little tomatoes you get in a pot. I never really liked tomatoes before and now my mind is blown😅😅😅

Madickenxx · 09/09/2024 13:51

Lakrids by Bulow chocolate covered liquorice is my current obsession. It will last until I've finished the obscenely large order (won't take long) and only return when I've forgotten just how impossible they are to eat sparingly.

Unashamedly obsessed with my daily lunch which is a salad/rice bowl:

  • spinach
  • purple cabbage
  • purple onion
  • shredded carrots
  • sweetcorn
  • half cup brown rice
  • walnut/cauliflower taco meat
  • spicy cashew garlic sauce

I'm probably only obsessed with it because I make the taco meat and cashew sauce myself so I have to use it all before it goes bad. I'm no friend to vampires but I don't care.

MounjaroUser · 09/09/2024 14:09

How do you make a cashew sauce, please?

Strokethefurrywall · 09/09/2024 14:15

@MounjaroUser

I go based off recipe from bowlsarethenewplates.com

1 cup unsalted cashews raw or roasted
2 head garlic (or 3 depending on how garlicky you want it)
1 tbsp garlic powder
¾ cup veg stock
1 teaspoon salt
Red pepper flakes

Cover cashews with water, bring to boil and then turn off and leave to soak 15 mins.
Take garlic head, chop off the top to expose the garlic, drizzle of oil, wrap in foil and roast 40 mins
When garlic is roasted and cooled a bit, squeeze the garlic kernels into a blender/nutri bullet along with other ingredients.

Add salt/red pepper flakes/other seasonings to taste.

Dr Karg's crispbreads with cambozola cheese and red onion chutney. Pistachio kulfi sticks from the world food freezer bit in Sainsbury's, nicest ice cream ever.

Sparkletastic · 09/09/2024 14:33

@Peclet - it's by Esti and I get it from Ocado. It's a Greek yoghurt / seeded / onion dippy delight!

Fontainebleau007 · 09/09/2024 14:36

Garlic mashed potato 😋

DiscoBeat · 09/09/2024 14:38

Any Greek dish with aubergines and good feta. And olives!

Garlic mashed potato 😋

My favourite mash at the moment - garlic, Parmesan and sour cream 😋

MounjaroUser · 09/09/2024 14:40

@Strokethefurrywall That sounds amazing. Thank you!

Springisintheairohyeah · 09/09/2024 14:44

I also go through phases with food. Last week I made myself a quick dinner with roasted carrots and white cabbage drowned in a concoction of spices, cooked until really charred on the edges, served on a big blob of hummus with crispy pitta. It's the cheapest, dullest thing in relation in terms of its component parts but it's my now current obsession. Prior to that it was Nigella's fish finger bhorta, which is the perfect combination of something that's quick, healthyish but feels like takeaway. Before I started eating less meat it was a Sophie Grigson French stuffed cabbage recipe, which is basically l good quality sausages (removed from skins), layered up in a metal lidded casserole dish with white cabbage, seasoning, nutmeg and lots of butter, cooked slowly until it almost melts together. Served with some very un French brown sauce.

Imicola · 09/09/2024 14:45

Vadasz fresh pickles with garlic and dill. Just delicious best pickles ever. I make a special trip to M&S food just for them, as my local Sainsburys doesn't stock them!

onlyhereforthefood · 09/09/2024 14:46

Cinnamon bun flipz pretzels, costing me a fortune 😂

Melon

Tuna sandwiches

And most oddly, porridge 🤷‍♀️

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 09/09/2024 14:46

Walls snack sausages rolls.

Fontainebleau007 · 09/09/2024 14:46

@EngineEngineNumber9 oh wow that sounds amazing! 🤩

GogAndMagog · 09/09/2024 14:53

Greek yoghurt with honey, chopped nuts, flaxseeds, chia seeds, oats.

Just love it. I don't think this love will go away.

GogAndMagog · 09/09/2024 14:55

Oh, and polish cottage cheese,

It's just delicious!!!

spikeandbuffy · 09/09/2024 14:56

Nothing at the minute which is unusual for me, totally off food

The last one was crispy kale in a salad. I was eating bags of the stuff

GogAndMagog · 09/09/2024 14:56

@Springisintheairohyeah yes to the fish finger bhorta!

ButterAsADip · 09/09/2024 14:57

Oh, and polish cottage cheese,

It's just delicious!!!

Good cos I couldn’t find ‘normal’ and so bought some polish instead - the packet seems surprisingly solid! Hopefully will be yum!
