Keir Starmer "not naming my children"

Misthios · 08/09/2024 09:35

Respect his stance not to allow pictures of his kids, fair enough, that is the decision he and his wife have made.

But the whole "i'm not publicly naming them" - you'd think as a former lawyer he'd know birth records are public record and anyone can find out in 30 seconds? So not the big secret he thinks it is?

But links to news stories from 25 years ago are very, very important to this topic@cakeorwine.🤔

No not a joke. For me modern day version of Labour party is in a terrible state. Embarrassing almost. But yes - the riots clamp down - agree. Job well done. I think. I read an article that suggested they’d clamped down too quickly too hard, but I agree with you.

Ofsted - let’s see how that goes. Danger is of course that in future, no one has a clue if a school is good or not or how. But that is the Labour way. The aim perhaps.

Strikes - what by succumbing to their paymasters the trade unions? Slow hand clap. Train drivers do not need a pay rise. Teachers, nurses, doctors etc yes. Train drivers on final salary pensions with all the benefits. No. Sooner it’s all fully automated the better.

RMT isn't affiliated to the Labour Party so not their 'paymaster'

Neither is the BMA

I would as well if I were a politician, wanting to play nice with my electorate. Baby sick? Babies do that. All of them. Not very personal, is it? What does that nugget of information actually tell you?

He was DPP actually - he named his wife and son in the same anecdote so very personal.

Then why the fuss and drama of this thread?

I'm barely able to keep up with the politics that I should take an interest in, I wouldn't retain that level of irrelevant detail and I don't understand the public appetite for such non-information. I'll just chalk it up to we're all different but for me, it really is such odd and intrusive behaviour.

Do you ever think you should get a life outside of posting multiple links ?

I do have a life thanks - I came back from an overseas holiday on Wednesday, I was working during the day on Thursday and Friday and I was out all day yesterday.

Of course not. Not officially anyway.

Then why the fuss and drama of this thread?

Some people get very upset with any criticism of Keir Starmer I guess.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 08/09/2024 17:33

What are you talking about, Clavinova? I couldn't care less about any politician but if they're in power I want them to do a good job. Their family life is nothing whatsoever to do with me - or you. Grow up.

I’m quite happy to criticise him for the policies I don’t agree with. His choices with regard to his family are none of my business. Or anyone else’s, come to that.

This thread is about Starmer's efforts to protect his children's privacy, which OP and others on this thread seemed keen to invade. Then you joined in. I am surprised tbh.

And yet you've posted details about Boris Johnson's sex life from one of his ex lovers!

Not quite the same about wanting access to details about his kids, is it?!

No - it's worse.

Don't be ridiculous. Johnson is a grown man who has chosen to put himself in the spotlight.

How come?

His children are minors, As far as we know all of Johnsons lovers were adults

I'm sensing Clav might have to go out soon...

Charlotte Owen's parents haven't chosen to put themselves in the spotlight - but some posters here seem to think it's ok to question her parentage and wonder who paid her school fees. Very few posters calling out that thread.

Anyway - I do have a life and we are going out for dinner in an hour so I need to get ready.

Clavinova · 08/09/2024 17:48

No - it's worse.

Not condoning either, but why is what two adults and their sex life gets up to worse than trying to gain/wanting access to details of politician's kids?!
Who have absolutely nothing to do with their parents choice of profession?!

Lanneederniere · 08/09/2024 17:55

As a lawyer, I see individuals' growing usage of data cleansing services/companies. These are commissioned to scour the net for any/all references to them, which are then selectively allowed to stand, or are deleted, according to their choices. It was originally seen as a 'dark art' but is now becoming increasingly mainstream for security and image management reasons.

It's becoming difficult to ascertain a genuine and holistic picture of anyone now, which increases the challenge of evaluating their integrity. However, it's their choice.

You will therefore not find details of other high profile and/or contentious individuals' children, because they actively seek to shield them and protect their privacy by association; Richard Tice is one example of the phenomenon.

I personally don't blame them for this.

Yes @Clavinova it's probably best you step away from the internet for a bit.🙂

Oh dear. There have been plenty of threads where you could read responses to arguments like yours. I can't be bothered to repeat them here.
