Songs you didn't realise were covers

I almost grew up with Natalie Imbruglia's Torn. I used to put the music video channels on TV in the early morning before my parents got up. I loved it, she was one of my first crushes. I watched the video of it over and over again and was bemused how the man was so normal when she was so incredible.

It wasn't until much later I found out that the song was a cover, and the original by Ednaswap was almost identical so it wasn't even an interesting cover!

I know they've been a thing for years now, but I don't agree with sampling. If you like the original song so much then try and make a decent cover.

Don't steal bits from songs created by somebody else more talented , chop it up and use it to bolster your own work, which is usually much more ordinary. It seems like cheating!

No doubt I am out of touch etc, but I still think this.

I've just discovered that Everybody's Talkin was a cover. I had assumed the Beautiful South sang the original but it was Harry Nilson in the sixties.

It was covered by Everything But The Girl?
