Is this really why women wear those sport's leggings?

According to dp it's to make other people look at their figure 🙄

I tried to argue that they are for practicality but I'm starting to think he's got a point.

I personally don't wear them and don't think I will if they will just make people stare at my bottom.

I think I've been quite naive.

I wore mine post pregnancy a lot - they were comfy, stretchy and dried easily. I fully assure you it was not to attract men.

Do you mean the scrunch bum ones? Were they really more comfortable post partum than regular leggings?

Oh my bad - I thought the op meant regular leggings. I’ve never even seen the others so I’ll take my hopelessly outdated fashion comments away 😆

I don’t go the gym, but I do run. I don’t imagine loose clothes would be as practical for running.

Tight clothing is indeed uncomfortable. form fitting clothing does not feel tight or restrict movement and if made from the right fabric will deal with sweat.

I am actually more likely to wear loose shorts and top when I run (training run, not a race) and more form fitting in the gym. In the gym I don't want my top riding up, or my short legs to allow a clear view to my arse/pants. I don't have that issue when I run. I don't mean flapping around catching the wind, just a looser fit.
I wear the most tight clothing for cycling when any loose fabric makes a difference.
Oh and swimming.

Fortunately I do sport with people who don't seem to be at all interested in what anyone else looks like.

Sounds like your DP spends time letching at random women going about their day

Like most men then.

Why on earth do you think loose clothes are no as practical for running? Loose items of clothing constrain the body less and allow for more freedom of movement.

Have you not looked at what men wear when running?

Men think everything women do is for their benefit.

So daft.

No they don’t. And in this particular case he is correct.

In the context of gym/sports attire it is clearly evident that some women dress in gear that is deliberately designed to draw attraction/attention. I'm not sure how some can try and claim that wearing flesh coloured spray on leggings that ensure ones bum hole and vulva can be viewed in full detail along with a low cut push up sports bra/crop top is being worn purely for practical and comfort reasons or just for other women to admire.

No, this is what the misogynist brigade tell themselves because they cannot fathom the concept a woman not centering men in their decision making.

emanresu3 · 09/09/2024 14:31

They are obscene. Only exhibitionists would wear the lift and divide type

Running leggings and tops don’t constrain movement in any way. Loose clothes are less aerodynamic and more annoying when it’s windy etc. Plus I like to wear the same clothes for yoga and Pilates and loose clothes (especially tops) are definitely not practical for that.
I’m perfectly happy in my leggings and tight top so I guess I haven’t given much thought to the alternatives 🤷‍♀️, I’ll wear what I want to thanks

BigFatLiar · 10/09/2024 21:42

I don't think it's so much what you wear to exercise as what you wear for general day wear. I put the wearing a sports bra and leggings to do the shopping etc in the same category as wearing your pj's to tesco. It's up to you but not something I'd do.

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 10/09/2024 21:46

It's pretty obvious that plenty of women dress for attention at the gym. At mine it's all bra type tops, bare midriffs and gym leggings. But frankly I don't care. I'm sure I was a bit similar in my 20s, not that I can remember the detail that far back 🤣

shuggles · 10/09/2024 22:05

@Lampan Loose clothes are less aerodynamic

I thought the goal of running was to exert the body and gain the health benefits of exercise, not to maximise speed.

We are people Lampan, not F1 cars. We don't need to be aerodynamic.

People also race against each other, or themselves, and they train hard, too. Loose clothes are quite annoying if they hinder your arm movement or bunch up around your legs and can definitely impact your performance if you're racing hard. Aerodynamic might not be the best word to use, but light, breathable, and fitted clothing is generally what people wear if they're racing.

Well the up the bum leggings are a bit much. No one male or female can miss them tbh. Normal leggings I wear as they are comfortable!

shuggles · 11/09/2024 00:00

@CharlotteBog Oh, I see. I don't have those insecurities, so I don't see the need to try to run faster than other people.

blackheartsgirl · 11/09/2024 02:14

My dd3 14 calls them bum leggings and took the pee out if her 17 year old dd for wearing them to meet a lad she fancied..needless to say she never wore them again.. thank God. Ugliest things going.

normal gym leggings, general leggings no problem

XChrome · 11/09/2024 02:40

BogRollBOGOF · 07/09/2024 22:33

Normal leggings- great comfortable, functional clothing.

Scrunch-bum leggings- most people really don't want to see a perma-wedgie. Especially a sweaty one.

I ended up running behind someone wearing a scooped back, scrunch-bum unitard in a long distance race. Her sweat poured down her back to the low waist with the effect that it looked like a load a load of arse sweat seeping up which was, even by the standards of long distance runners' relationship with bodily fluids, really rather gross.

Yeah, what I find most gross is people who don't wear underwear under their gym clothes, so there is only one thin layer of cloth keeping their vaginal fluids or ballsack sweat from getting all over gym equipment.

While competitiveness may indicate a level insecurity I don't think it's a given.
Drive, ambition and self motivation are positive traits in competitive people.

FindingNeverland28 · 14/09/2024 04:45

Haha. I started the couch to 5k years ago (I should really do it again) and I used to wear sports leggings for running, along with knee high compression socks and knee supports. I looked dead sexy, especially when I was wearing 3/4 leggings. To complete the look and enhance my sex appeal, I’d wear a bum bag too! I never realised my intention of showing off my (very overweight) figure was so transparent.
To answer seriously though, there are some leggings that have a certain design or have a ruching around the bum to make it look bigger. I do think these are worn to attract the attention of one’s derrière.

TomPinch · 14/09/2024 08:36

I think they make the wearers look very nice!

(ducks and runs)

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 14/09/2024 08:48

Because it's difficult to run far in jeans.
