Is this really why women wear those sport's leggings?

According to dp it's to make other people look at their figure 🙄

I tried to argue that they are for practicality but I'm starting to think he's got a point.

I personally don't wear them and don't think I will if they will just make people stare at my bottom.

I think I've been quite naive.

It's awful and you can't help but look and laugh at them.

The majority of the women I see wearing these are in fact teenagers and very young women. Girls are socialised to base their value on how attractive they are to men. The ‘look at my ass’ fashion trend is because of the prevalence of a certain type of extremely popular porn. It’s not laughable, it’s sad.

Agree. I feel so bad for young women, having to deal with men who are almost all pornsick.

Why is that funny? I don’t get it?

Because otherwise he wouldn't be interested in going to the gym. At least this way he can be distracted (which is exactly what the women want) whilst getting some exercise. I don't have any issue with this, he's only looking while he's on a workout, as are most men in there.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 06/09/2024 20:04

So he'll only go to the gym with you, PhyllisFunbags if he can gawp and letch over the women there? Ugh.

Why is this ok with you?

He doesn't stand there open mouthed and drooling. But I know they catch his eye, they must do because they certainly catch mine.

That would put me right off a man if they were like that. Ew. Sorry but that’s a bit yuk.

The ones that go up your bum crack and graze your anus? Yes. Definitely worn to get attention.

Regular leggings, no, given people of all shapes and sizes wear them.

This. I recently saw a young (maybe 12/13) in a pair of skin coloured ones in the supermarket shopping with her mum (who also had a pair on). It looked like she was naked. I think people are confusing regular leggings with the ‘right up your ass” type. They are definitely worn to draw attention to themselves

Wingingit247 · 07/09/2024 17:54

I cannot think of any reason why anyone would wear those ruffled bum leggings other than to enhance your bum for other people to look at. Same reason you’d wear a push up bra, it’s not comfort you’re after 🤷🏼‍♀️

Risingsun93 · 07/09/2024 18:08

What a load of crap. I have NEVER put on leggings and thought "oOoh can't wait for everyone to look at my figure". I wear them (regularly) because they are massively comfortable and extremely practical for all things. You DP is saying this to hide the single fact he feels bad for eyeing up other ladies...

Have you read the thread?
People are talking about the scrunch bum ones. If you are indeed wearing those, then can you say what it is about them in particular that makes them massively comfortable and practical and especially relative to regular leggings.

twilightermummy · 06/09/2024 01:28

Oh hang on! I've just seen what @mightymam
posted. I don't wear those! I think they'd be more of a hindrance to workout in. Come to think of it though, I've not seen anyone wearing those. Maybe I'm just too interested in what I'm doing and don't notice others.

Same, I also don't wear those. But I do wear sports leggings.

Noway they are awful!

I wear them because they're comfortable and practical. I don't tend to live my life around the male gaze despite what some men think

Same here as comfort is paramount for me.
To be honest, these days if I attracted the 'male gaze' whilst wearing these I'd view that as a compliment, but I doubt it would happen 😆

joolsella · 07/09/2024 20:20

Im short and fat with a huge bum

I wear them to the gym right after the school run

I presume nobody thinks im showing off

Ladymeade · 07/09/2024 20:29

I love my leggings for the gym but wouldn't wear them outside of the gym as I would feel quite self conscious as they are obviously very fitted (no camel toe or up the bum crack look though) In my gym, most people are concentrating on their work out (or on their phones) so it's not a drama.

Beautifulweeds · 07/09/2024 21:41

Whether designed to or not, yes they are revealing and it seems to be all you see younger women and girls wear. Some aren't as translucent/obvious as others but honestly some I've seen show every crack and crevice and leave nothing to the imagination.

Beautifulweeds · 07/09/2024 21:44

AngeloMysterioso · 05/09/2024 23:38

I agree with the general consensus that regular leggings are practical and comfy, those fucking hideous wedgie bum leggings are purely to get people looking at your arse. Personally I always feel a bit bare in leggings so I will usually only wear them with a long jumper or hoodie or something that covers my bum.

Agree, paired with a tiny crop top, of course they're for show and the current awful fashion. I find them very tasteless and unstylish.

BogRollBOGOF · 07/09/2024 22:33

Normal leggings- great comfortable, functional clothing.

Scrunch-bum leggings- most people really don't want to see a perma-wedgie. Especially a sweaty one.

I ended up running behind someone wearing a scooped back, scrunch-bum unitard in a long distance race. Her sweat poured down her back to the low waist with the effect that it looked like a load a load of arse sweat seeping up which was, even by the standards of long distance runners' relationship with bodily fluids, really rather gross.

TooManyNiblings · 05/09/2024 22:58

I think OP means specifically the leggings which accentuate the bottom with lift and separate technology, not just bog standard leggings, and I agree with her DH.

Lift and separate - sounds like making a meringue 😂 But I do know the leggings you mean. They make me think of those monkeys with the wrinkly arseholes (sorry if that is crude). They are awful

cornflakecrunchie · 07/09/2024 23:41

They are AWFUL.

When I started running 20 years ago you could buy decent jogging trousers that you don’t have to peel on and off. You know - the kind of things that men are allowed to wear. I absolutely think the running leggings that are now ubiquitous are designed so men can look at our bodies, but it’s not a choice that i have made: it’s impossible to buy ‘normal’ running joggers anymore.

Buy mens pants. They even have pockets!

CharlotteBog · 08/09/2024 07:20

This works if you have a male like figure ie similar sized waist and hips, less full bum.

I'm very slim, but can't wear clothes cut to fit men.

They sell tracksters for women which is maybe what PP means - looser fit often with stirrups.

GoldenDoorHandles · 08/09/2024 10:49

I'm sure some do, like why people used to wear miniskirt, lowcut tops etc.. I wear them because I've got a swollen tummy and they dint squash it and it's easy to order them online. Not so glamorous.

Maybe you mean the ones that accentuate the bum. Then yes of course they're to show off the figure.

Is anyone still giving a fuck about what men think about what we wear?

Lampan · 08/09/2024 18:15

shuggles · 06/09/2024 00:23

When I go to the gym, I wear a loose and scruffy pair of shorts. They are comfortable and give me freedom to move and sweat. I don't understand why tight clothing would be preferable- tight clothing is inherently less comfortable because it feels tight on parts of the body, constrains movement, and makes it more difficult to sweat.

I don’t go the gym, but I do run. I don’t imagine loose clothes would be as practical for running.

Psychologymam · 08/09/2024 18:17

I wore mine post pregnancy a lot - they were comfy, stretchy and dried easily. I fully assure you it was not to attract men.
