Is this really why women wear those sport's leggings?

According to dp it's to make other people look at their figure 🙄

I tried to argue that they are for practicality but I'm starting to think he's got a point.

I personally don't wear them and don't think I will if they will just make people stare at my bottom.

I think I've been quite naive.

Only a man would think a woman wearing sports leggings would be to attract (your DP's) attention

Not always and probably not in most instances but I think you would have to be very naive to think it never happens.

DeCaray · 06/09/2024 11:25

If you mean the flesh coloured or grey coloured body sticking leggings that show every simple and make even the slimmest of young girls look wobbly then yes they are worn to get attention and to draw the eye to themselves. Whether they only want men to look is down to the individual.

It's awful and you can't help but look and laugh at them.

The majority of the women I see wearing these are in fact teenagers and very young women. Girls are socialised to base their value on how attractive they are to men. The ‘look at my ass’ fashion trend is because of the prevalence of a certain type of extremely popular porn. It’s not laughable, it’s sad.

God knows. Apparently we all have to walk around in ill-fitting baggy clothes just in case a random bloke thinks we're dressing for them 🙄

let us not forget that Angela Rayner was teasing and distracting Boris with her 'short' skirts

If you really think young women don't wear scrunch bum leggings for attention then you're extremely naive. I wear them to the gym and I'm fully aware of the focus my backside is getting.

I'm not naïve at all which is why I said does her DH really think that all women dress a certain way for attention.

Some absolutely DO dress for men, but for her DH to think that ALL women do IS misogynist.

IamAutumn · 06/09/2024 12:05

Losing some weight, getting toned, getting fitter and stronger is my ambition and I'm making progress.
Having a size 12 body and a size 16 arse is not part of the plan at all.

The OP did not say ALL women

I work with a few women in their twenties who wear the all in one body suits or scrunch bum leggings and tight tops to work. In clothes like that it really hard for the eye not to be drawn to the body form. Everything is on show. I think women should be able to wear whatever they want. But I also think that if you're wearing an outfit like that then people will be more inclined to look at your body / arse because it's completely on display.

The OP hasn't said that her DH thinks it's all women.

In any case, scrunch bum leggings do have their uses. With so many of them on show at my gym they make it easy to persuade my DP to come with me. 😆

I go to an all female gym. Nobody wears scrunch bum leggings.

That tells you exactly why women wear them.

Porn to do with a woman’s ass. I don’t think I need to be precise about the nature of it.

I wonder if men were into flat asses, would we be seeing leggings with bum flattening technology built in, and women having surgeries to flatten their bums?

Sartre · 06/09/2024 13:21

I can’t really see any reason for the scrunch bum ones you’re referring to other than wanting everyone to look at your derrière… There’s no practical reason to wear leggings like that.

Fahran · 06/09/2024 12:38

Nobody in my mixed gym wears them either.

In fact I can’t say I’ve ever noticed anyone in real life wearing them.

I have. I was stood behind someone wearing them queuing at an ATM early yesterday evening. From her top and shoes I’d guess she was going on a night out rather than the gym.

@jellycatandkittens where do you work? I'm ask8ng because I was musing on women wearing them and looking like they were going t9 work and I couldn't imagine where?

TeachesOfPeaches · 06/09/2024 14:33

@jellycatandkittens the bodysuits are utterly vile! What type of workplace are you in where people wear them?!

Werweisswohin · 06/09/2024 14:34

Dolliesdisasterousdayout · 05/09/2024 23:01

I wear gym leggings to work out because I would look stupid in jeans.

Your dp is a dirty pervert who thinks he can look at other women because they are asking for it by wearing trousers. HTH.

Except her DH didn't actually say that.

You'll be surprised to hear it's public sector but not client facing.
Personally I think it's completely inappropriate for work wear but it's not my role to challenge them. It also makes me really old because to them the body suits are an entirely normal and acceptable daytime outfit. I love clothes, I think I'm quite stylish. But the generational devide here is huge! (I'm 50, btw)

TeachesOfPeaches · 06/09/2024 15:22

@jellycatandkittens shocking! May as well go to work in a swimsuit

BirthdayRainbow · 06/09/2024 16:29

Beyond your partner I think it's sad that some women want other men to look at them to give them validation.

saraclara · 06/09/2024 16:44

Someone walked towards me wearing a flesh coloured bodysuit last week, Labia evident.
There's only one reason that a woman would wear that, and it's not comfort. It was entirely reflexive to stare when, from a distance, it appears that a naked women is walking towards you.

But a man staring would be accused of being a pervert, of course
