Property porn - £9 million for a London house with no garden

BooToYouHalloween · 04/09/2024 19:13

I’ve been unwell recently and have developed a new hobby of browsing really expensive houses in posh areas of London. In particular around Sloan Sq/Chelsea there are lots of multi multi million pound houses with tons of bedrooms and no gardens. I just wonder who would spend all that money on a house with no garden?

Here’s one for almost £9 mill and it just has a tiny courtyard. I’m not a big garden user (grew up without one and now I have one I don’t use very much) but it’s nice to have the option and I don’t get spending that much money on a property that didn’t have one.

That’s insane! The rooms don’t even look that big!

Pedallleur · 04/09/2024 19:16

Location is king and that area is sought after. No gardens round there poss some garage or underground parking. Owners of that dont garden. Maybe overseas owners. And you would have a holiday home here and/or abroad.

People with country houses

Ted27 · 04/09/2024 19:19

It does have a roof terrace as well.

It does have a roof terrace as well.

When I looked at the floor plan I think the roof terrace is the courtyard it refers to in the listing - can’t see two separate outdoor spaces unless I’ve missed it

I live not far from that house, but hasten to add that my flat is worth less than the stamp duty on it!

Anyone who can afford that price isn't in need of a garden, as it certainly wouldn't be their only property

As an aside, it's opposite Tesco!

Vettrianofan · 04/09/2024 19:20

That's unfair to be posting about a MN user who is putting their property up for sale and slagging it off😬

There's no need to be jealous OP!

mitogoshi · 04/09/2024 19:21

Too many small rooms and doesn't even have a walk in shower in the master, hate stepping into a bath for a shower.

SleepGoalsJumped · 04/09/2024 19:21

If I was buying any property in london I definitely wouldn't want a garden and I wouldn't look at a place that had one. If you are living in london you almost certainly don't have the time or energy to maintain a garden and there's plenty of public parks if you need open spaces. I'd love a house on one of the squares with a shared grassy area in the centre.

I am very jealous! It’s beautifully decorated. My favourite are some of the ones that are £10 million+ that look like they might have been decorated by a mistress of Boris Yeltsin

Fantastic hobby @BooToYouHalloween! It's quite bland and as @Supersoakers says, the rooms are small...why on earth would you split it into 7 bedrooms, it might be nicer with larger rooms. Insane amount of money.

If you fancy a look at something outside of London...this one has a massive garden!!

London house prices blow my mind. I always wonder what job people have to get a mortgage that big. I also wonder where do the people who are on low wages and work in London live but that's a whole separate thread!

VerbenaGirl · 04/09/2024 19:22

I couldn’t live with no outside space, but that’s a pretty nice terrace with scope to add plants.

I can definitely see the owner popping into Tesco for a pint of milk in their pyjama and slippers on a Saturday morning

I do not have £9 million to spend, just so we're clear, but it was the relief of my life to sell a house with multiple acres of garden (tree roots impinging on neighbours' foundations entailing lawsuits; soil that had endemic black spot in which I tried to grow an extensive rose garden etc) and buy a tiny modernist detached house in central London with a postage stamp "patio".

soupfiend · 04/09/2024 19:24

What puts me off, its on a corner.

Dont like that

Call me fussy.

IDontHateRainbows · 04/09/2024 19:24

Bit of astroturf in the courtyard and voila! A garden!

Or sending the 'help'?

MrsDoylesLastTeabag · 04/09/2024 19:25

Just realised I could call my "patio" a "courtyard" and increase the property's value by a million...

Cash buys. Doubt they'll be mortgaged properties. That's pocket money to some people.

MagdaLenor · 04/09/2024 19:28

That's been "dressed to sell". I can tell the stylist. The owners will be in another property and it's being presented in particular way. I love it! The Tesco proximity even better!

Oh that’s very nice. I like the horse sculpture in the dining room. I’ve already got my eye on this outdoor giraffe chandelier sculpture for £40k but I do need a garden to put it in you see

The Crediton one seems to have a tartan lawn. Cheaper than the Chelsea one, and you get an equestrian centre thrown in!

Rumshotsandrainshowers · 04/09/2024 19:32

thats gorgeous, what a beautiful house. I wonder who owns it. Love all the old movie star pictures.
