Property porn - £9 million for a London house with no garden

I’ve been unwell recently and have developed a new hobby of browsing really expensive houses in posh areas of London. In particular around Sloan Sq/Chelsea there are lots of multi multi million pound houses with tons of bedrooms and no gardens. I just wonder who would spend all that money on a house with no garden?

Here’s one for almost £9 mill and it just has a tiny courtyard. I’m not a big garden user (grew up without one and now I have one I don’t use very much) but it’s nice to have the option and I don’t get spending that much money on a property that didn’t have one.

@Vettrianofan really? When I see houses on here in London for just over £1 million I think wow. I find it interesting how much houses are in London and what you actually get for your money. It's like another world to me.

Oh that’s very nice. I like the horse sculpture in the dining room. I’ve already got my eye on this outdoor giraffe chandelier sculpture for £40k but I do need a garden to put it in you see

I love this! @BooToYouHalloween that has made me chuckle

and given me something to spend my money on when I finally win the euromillions!

I can see that a courtyard might appeal to people who only jet in for the shopping and money laundering. The tiny kitchen and claim of a downstairs room as a bedroom are unforgivable though. I was expecting to find a bigger show kitchen along with the little one for victims of modern slavery maids.

Way out of my price range too😂😂 only in a fantasy world could I own property of that magnitude...

When I looked at the floor plan I think the roof terrace is the courtyard it refers to in the listing - can’t see two separate outdoor spaces unless I’ve missed it

I think it has two outside areas. Scribbled over in red in the pic

I used to work for one of the big freeholders in Chelsea. One day a man came in and paid for his 3 bedroom flat (5 million) by writing a cheque. Yes, there was a conveyancing process but the actual transfer of money was via cheque. This was in the mid 1990s, things might have changed now as there are new money laundering laws.

🤭

I’m imagining the advert in The Lady now.

Frequently absent money launderer requires female housekeeper to run Chelsea townhouse. Must be willing to run to Tesco to buy milk and put away Harrods shopping.

Trafficked entry a plus as passport will be required. In return can offer choice of very small room amongst many other very small rooms. Great for hayfever sufferers. Payments in cash only.

A cheaper house in Chelsea, only £3.5m but it is a modest terraced house. I'm not sure what all the hairy creatures are at the dining table.

I quite like some bits of that house, but the best bit is the number of gilets hanging in the dressing room. What is it with millionaires and gilets?!
The small, plain child’s bedroom is a bit sad, though. They made so much effort with the rest of the house and seem to have run out of fucks for the kid.

The council tax seems really cheap

Gawjus · 04/09/2024 19:48

Yes, I have no idea why rich folk like gilets.

I was just going to say that! My tiny terraced house in a dodgy part of London is only £70 a month cheaper than that Chelsea pile!

Buckingham Palace is band H, £1828 But there are other properties within the grounds.

DodoTired · 04/09/2024 20:11

It’s Chelsea. Not everyone is as obsessed with gardens as Brits - this price bracket in Chelsea is obviously for non-British buyers 🤷‍♀️

London house prices blow my mind. I always wonder what job people have to get a mortgage that big. I also wonder where do the people who are on low wages and work in London live but that's a whole separate thread!

I also wonder both those things.

Choochoo21 · 04/09/2024 20:16

I’d rather buy a £1 million house with lots of land in a cheap area and then get a job in Tesco or something (as well as live off the £8mill) than this.

I would absolutely love to live in London but I don’t see the attraction of spending that amount of money.

😂 I'm just imagining the resident needing the loo and going to one of them, only to suddenly stop and go 'oh gosh, no, it's Tuesday! Must use the Tuesday loo!'
