Property porn - £9 million for a London house with no garden

I’ve been unwell recently and have developed a new hobby of browsing really expensive houses in posh areas of London. In particular around Sloan Sq/Chelsea there are lots of multi multi million pound houses with tons of bedrooms and no gardens. I just wonder who would spend all that money on a house with no garden?

Here’s one for almost £9 mill and it just has a tiny courtyard. I’m not a big garden user (grew up without one and now I have one I don’t use very much) but it’s nice to have the option and I don’t get spending that much money on a property that didn’t have one.

London house prices blow my mind. I always wonder what job people have to get a mortgage that big. I also wonder where do the people who are on low wages and work in London live but that's a whole separate thread!

I agree!!

I would love to live in London and so I look up the London jobs but all of them are under £30k (unless you are a top professional but then the salary is high anywhere), which isn’t much higher than what I can earn in other places.

I don’t understand how people afford their rent on £24k a year in London.

A cheaper house in Chelsea, only £3.5m but it is a modest terraced house. I'm not sure what all the hairy creatures are at the dining table.

Is that a floor to ceiling dolls house against the left hand wall or just decor? Hoping it’s the former (makes up for sad kids bedroom)

@LoobyDoop2

I confess to having 4 gilets and I am far from rich and live in a victorian terrace in the middle of a city
I have 2 for down the allotment, different weights and 2 for not down the allotment, different weights, one with a hood, one noodles
I'm rather partial to a gilet

Most people on that wage either 1) live with parents or 2) have social housing or 3) flat share. Possibly room share as well. That’s the only way you can make it work.

The house is nice but as mentioned is opposite a mini Tesco so that’s the view out of your front windows. It’s quite a busy road with intercity coaches going down it. And the Embankment is a hundred yards away so the air quality will be poor. On the upside Gordon Ramsay’s flagship place is 30 seconds’ walk away, so there’s that.

Rumshotsandrainshowers · 04/09/2024 20:27

Im guessing that’s owned by someone famous op, someone in the movie industry. It’s the old film star images, the metro Goldwyn mayor snap on the tv. I think it is someone famous selling their London pad that they seldom use.

A million pound for the stamp duty. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! 😂

9 million pounds for that just coz it's in the middle of That London!

No ta. They do seem to be determined to show off the shitty little courtyard though eh?! 😆

.

BasketOfBubbles · 04/09/2024 20:34

And stamp duty of nearly £1 million!

HeySummerWhereAreYou · 04/09/2024 20:36

@Nellieinthebarn That's gorgeous. All that land too!

Fantastic hobby @BooToYouHalloween! It's quite bland and as @Supersoakers says, the rooms are small...why on earth would you split it into 7 bedrooms, it might be nicer with larger rooms. Insane amount of money.

If you fancy a look at something outside of London...this one has a massive garden!!

This is much more my style but wtf would I do with ELEVEN bedrooms. We also don’t ride so stables are wasted on us.

In all these flats

DeCaray · 04/09/2024 20:39

It came up for demotion but was refused.

weAllWanttheBest · 04/09/2024 20:40

I love it. Cannot afford it but I love certain elements. Very well kept and they have amazing cleaners LOL

BlackberrySky · 04/09/2024 20:41

Buyers of properties like this don't care about gardens because the property is just one in their portfolio and they only go there for a few days at a time. My brother sold his Chelsea flat to a bloke who never even came to view it before putting in an offer!

If I had the funds I would have a London flat, and a country house. This is my current favourite. Its got a moat, which I have decided is the new essential feature.

from £7,950 to £14,950 per night

8 Double Bedrooms, 6 Bathrooms

Fantastic Wide House in Chelsea

Nearly 15 thousand pounds a NIGHT to rent! Someone's taking the piss here!

And why do they keep banging on about the house being fucking WIDE?! Confused

Well the area that house is in clearly isn't!

Mintyt · 04/09/2024 20:44

OMG I was a nanny in Chelsea many moons ago and this was my "manor" the children would be at school and in the country at weekends, then off to board. There are many locked gardens nearby for the nannies to take the babies, I would buy in a heartbeat!!

GargoylesofBeelzebub · 04/09/2024 20:46

They don't need a garden. That's just their London house. They'll have gardens in their other houses.

Oh that is gorgeous! I’m the same, definitely a country estate and a London pied-a-terre..

This is right up my street…no longer on market, but it fuelled my fantasies for a long time…

Stamp Duty
£985,250

But there’s a teeny tiny courtyard.

Cobblersorchard · 04/09/2024 20:54

This is my hobby too @BooToYouHalloween

When I can’t sleep I pick an area of the country at random and then browse property. Sometimes I also browse schools for my DD to attend in said place.

London is one of my favourite places to use but I do all sorts of other locations too.
