Obviously lighthearted and no need to explain your rational. But what are things that some people consider high end/ posh/ classy/ aspirational (I know they are not necessarily the same thing) that you don’t like/ think are tacky/ common / etc.

Again this is light hearted. We can complain but we must never explain!!!!!!

Here is my list.

Molton Brown hand wash
M&S food shop
American Style Fridges
Having a tan
Talking about exercising
Beauty Advent Calendars
Designer toasters and kettles
House of Fraser department stores
Posting photos from 1st class travel on instagram
Referring to your car by its brand name
Talking about your ‘forever home’
Shopping in Space NK
Visiting Disney World
Listening to Classic FM

When people decant cheap hand-wash into posh bottles. Just, I don't know, buy soap.

usernother · 03/09/2024 19:58

Clothes with big designer logos on them.

@ReadingWorm “Talking about exercising”

is it meant to be a secret?

Cerialkiller · 03/09/2024 19:59

Expensive flashy cars

Big driveways with no greenery

Very overly designed formal gardens (except at stately homes)

Shiny white kitchens that look like they are never used and no visible way of opening anything or preparing anything.

Outdoor kitchens (BBQ area fine)

Outdoor TV room

Gold/Cristal taps or door handles

More bad object d art then books

beryldaperil · 03/09/2024 20:00

This thread could get very juicy considering the COL and the large working class demographic that MN professes. <grabs pop corn and sweet potato chips>

Trying to use the word 'rationale' but instead writing 'rational'.

You might want to heed the trigger warning 😉

What you mean is "things that can cost lots of money but people have decided is Nouveau Riche and enjoyed by plebs"

CuttySarcasm · 03/09/2024 20:03

I really don’t think M and S food and exercising are common Op!

Supersimkin7 · 03/09/2024 20:03

Badly behaved ‘boho’ children. Little Tarquin is not expressing himself confidently, he is rude and dangerous.

His cousins, who actually had some money spent on their school, have unnervingly good manners. Courtesy gets you places, as only the posh truly know.

Firenzeflower · 03/09/2024 20:03

Not sure it’s posh but personalised number plates.
Also Dubai.

Literally nobody in the world thinks Dubai is posh.

oberst · 03/09/2024 20:07

Dressing children in high end designer clothes. Little girls in big frocks and knee high socks with bows on 😆

unsync · 03/09/2024 20:08

@beryldaperil Surely you mean "working people" ?

Gloriiaa · 03/09/2024 20:09

The word posh, ' posh' people say smart

Cleaning your house or talking about cleaning or being even remotely concerned whether other people think their house is clean

Saying ' my' kitchen etc

New cars

' Snobbery ' is incidentally not something that ' posh' people concern themselves with, ironically a lot of 'posh' people were brought up with the etiquette to be polite/ engaging with whoever they come across, they are not obsessed with class, they are comfortable with who they are &;would find this thread to be in bad taste.
