Supposedly ’posh’ things you think are common *trigger warning this is light hearted*

Obviously lighthearted and no need to explain your rational. But what are things that some people consider high end/ posh/ classy/ aspirational (I know they are not necessarily the same thing) that you don’t like/ think are tacky/ common / etc.

Again this is light hearted. We can complain but we must never explain!!!!!!

Here is my list.

Molton Brown hand wash
M&S food shop
American Style Fridges
Having a tan
Talking about exercising
Beauty Advent Calendars
Designer toasters and kettles
House of Fraser department stores
Posting photos from 1st class travel on instagram
Referring to your car by its brand name
Talking about your ‘forever home’
Shopping in Space NK
Visiting Disney World
Listening to Classic FM

I must be common....I think all of these things are posh!
I am especially Impressed with Molton Brown hand soap, I can maybe stretch to Baylis & Harding on occasion but have been known to use Aldi's own washing up liquid to wash my hands on occasion.
I also ask guests to remove shoes at the door, we have hard floors though so not sure about that being because we can't afford to keep them clean (I can just about stretch to some hot water and a drop of bleach in the mop bucket now and again!)
I definitely don't see high end cars as posh, I always assume they are a company car.

Miller and Carter is common. And not something to aspire to.

It's a freezer to fryer joint with marketing.

Nellieinthebarn · 03/09/2024 20:25

Giving a rats arse what anyone else thinks.

The poshest person I have ever met, real aristocratic old money, used to have bottles of HP sauce and own brand salad cream on the table. And her husband used to eat a takeaway curry with a hanky balanced on his head to soak up the sweat.

Sillybillypoopoomummy · 03/09/2024 20:26

what on earth is a door bow - I am sure I don't actually want to know (but I really do...)

stinkydoveproducts · 03/09/2024 20:26

Scented cleaning products.

FinallyYouSaid · 03/09/2024 20:26

I once saw The Falcons described as "high rise living in South Chelsea". I lived there so not slagging it but made me laugh.

Ha ha. Mind you I still can't believe they moved the US embassy from Grosvenor Square to Nine Elms which was a dump when I last lived in the area.
Unbelievably over 30 years have gone by since I lived there. I swear it was only a few months. ago.

Sillybillypoopoomummy · 03/09/2024 20:28

but proper posh/aristocratic do not care.. they like what they like, be it cheap or expensive, and who cares what anyone else thinks.

Hot tub in the garden
Anything Mrs Finch aspires to

Forcing guests to take their shoes off at the door because you have a glaring white carpet that you obviously can't afford to have cleaned.

I have wood and tiles floor and I force all my guests to take off shoes and use guest slippers.
Why would you want all the grimm and shit from the streets spread around your home? 🤢

Barney16 · 03/09/2024 20:29

I love an M and S shop. Sorry back to it...

Posh paint. Farrow and Ball.

BunnyLake · 03/09/2024 20:29

What’s wrong with American fridge/freezers?

Noodlehen · 03/09/2024 20:30

Livinginaclock · 03/09/2024 20:01

Range Rovers.
Eating at Miller and Carter.
Holidaying in Dubai.

Are any of those things ever considered posh? 😂

M&S food for me.

patchworkbear · 03/09/2024 20:31

Wtf is wrong with classic FM?! It's my go to for keeping calm in bastard London traffic.

lightsandtunnels · 03/09/2024 20:31

Those really long trousers that drag to fuck on the floor and you would never be able to wear them twice.

Puffalicious · 03/09/2024 20:31

GreenPoppy · 03/09/2024 20:01

Trying to use the word 'rationale' but instead writing 'rational'.

🤣🤣🤣

KingOfPoundbury · 03/09/2024 20:31

Wearing a crown on one of those Hen Night things.

Folding the older version of the five-pound note in such a way as to shown John McEnroe or, even worse, Mummies bottom

That's just not not funny to one..

Try Rituals hand soaps and thank me later. Molton Brown is very artificial and drying

TheBossOfMe · 03/09/2024 20:33

Saying something is lighthearted doesn’t make it lighthearted.

I definitely don’t fall into the camp that you’re talking about. But you can add to your list “being sneery about things that bring other people joy and do no-one any harm”

HTH.

AgnesX · 03/09/2024 20:33

LittleBelleBelle · 03/09/2024 20:14

Prosecco. Cringe.

What's posh about that?

Usercyzabc · 03/09/2024 20:33

Who are Miller and Carter?

Cantthinkofadifferentname · 03/09/2024 20:34

Personalised number plates, known by Americans as vanity plates
