Supposedly ’posh’ things you think are common *trigger warning this is light hearted*

Obviously lighthearted and no need to explain your rational. But what are things that some people consider high end/ posh/ classy/ aspirational (I know they are not necessarily the same thing) that you don’t like/ think are tacky/ common / etc.

Again this is light hearted. We can complain but we must never explain!!!!!!

Here is my list.

Molton Brown hand wash
M&S food shop
American Style Fridges
Having a tan
Talking about exercising
Beauty Advent Calendars
Designer toasters and kettles
House of Fraser department stores
Posting photos from 1st class travel on instagram
Referring to your car by its brand name
Talking about your ‘forever home’
Shopping in Space NK
Visiting Disney World
Listening to Classic FM

  • Kids in top-to-toe designer labels, especially if the brand name is emblazoned across it.
  • Dubai
  • Massive 4X4s when you don't even live rurally
  • Buying a ton of merchandise for every minor event, e.g. Valentine's Day gifts for each of your children, spending more on Easter baskets than most people spend on Christmas
  • Overconsumption in general

I have wood and tiles floor and I force all my guests to take off shoes and use guest slippers.
Why would you want all the grimm and shit from the streets spread around your home? 🤢

Unless you’re planning on licking your flooring (which I hope not), then why is it an issue?

ReadingWorm · 03/09/2024 20:34

Saying something is lighthearted doesn’t make it lighthearted.

Oh but it does 😉

Swollenandgrouchy · 03/09/2024 20:35

Try Rituals hand soaps and thank me later. Molton Brown is very artificial and drying

yes I use l'occitane, the shea one, don't care if its posh but it keeps my hands nice.

HoolsB · 03/09/2024 20:36

I don’t think people think many of these things are posh, do they?

But also their is only one option for good handwash: www.penhaligons.com/uk/en/categories/bath-and-body/bath-hand-wash

Just...anything obviously branded
Talking about money...how much things cost etc
Bleached white teeth
Being so obsessed with your flooring that it makes you anti-social to guests
Hot-tubs
Tiki/Garden Bars
Sushi
Fake grass
Door Bows

I think this is just a millennium thing? (I am a millennial bwt)

Macaroon (or “macaron”) biscuits.

You do realise they are two different things? Neither are considered posh

OhshutupBarry · 03/09/2024 20:38

AnotherEmma · 03/09/2024 20:18

Center Parcs. Some people think it's posh because it's really overpriced expensive in the school holidays so you do have to be pretty comfortably off to go there. But I don't think really posh people would ever go!

Disagree. Took my kids a few years ago and got talking to another Mum whilst the DC were swinging on high ropes. We were talking about taking them out of school in term time and she said she couldn't do it as the press would be on to her. She was the wife of a very famous MP.

Sago1 · 03/09/2024 20:38

Serviette, settee, toilet and trifle😱

That's supposed to be your cleaner's problem, daaarling.

I am being light hearted but I have genuinely heard this said to me.

Personally, I don't ask people to take them off because I don't give a shit about my carpet! 😁

I do.

You clearly have never tasted toast made in a top of the range Morphy Richards

No one thinks giant blown up canvas family photos are posh. They might like them - each to their own, but no one thinks they're posh!!

Aroastdinnerisnotahumanright · 03/09/2024 20:40

Aren't these all just nouveau riche things?

Because I enjoy my shitparticles free home, it is quite simple :)

On serious side, if I drop a piece of clothing on a floor by accident I do not want to stress over washing it as guests walked over with dirt.
And more importantly, I have children who touch floor and do not wash hands every 10mins while playing.

GoldenLegend · 03/09/2024 20:42

The royal family. I'm serious.

CraigBrown · 03/09/2024 20:17

If you're going to do this, you need to go all in like Nicky Haslam, who lists such things as 'loving your parents' and 'saying bye bye'.
https://nickyhaslamstudio.com/tea-towels

Nicky Haslam is the one snob who can stay - how I long to buy my in laws the one that lists Richard Osman and vegetables “from our garden” and jiggling your knee 😂

I repeat - Abandon thread!

Range rovers - definitely
Designer labels - they’re just so basic
A perfectly decorated, spotless home.
Likewise, perfectly curated hair and make-up.
Huge cups of crappy, milky take-out coffee.
Agree about new driveways with no greenery.

rightoguvnor · 03/09/2024 20:42

Great huge bucket-like wine glasses that hold 250/300ml. What is elegant or glamorous about having to fling your head back to a 110 degree angle to sip your wine.
Give me a 125ml glass with some discreet decorative gold leaf. Far more civilised.

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 03/09/2024 20:42

Taking loads of drugs
Being rude
