Are you a morning or evening showerer?

Got into a lighthearted debate about this…the evening showerers say it’s unclean to get into bed after not washing all day. The morning showerers say it’s better to start the day as clean as possible, not many hours after your last shower.

Surely even a low frequency sex life would dictate that every person in a couple has a morning shower, if they have evening ones or not. I'm surprised even showers only are so popular.

pinkspeakers · 03/09/2024 12:03

Morning. 100%. Can't do anything else if I've not had my morning shower.

I will sometimes shower again later in the day if I've done something to get sweaty/mucky or occasionally if going out somewhere special. But not normally.

But if it's a low frequency sex life it's a low frequency morning shower, surely?

HardWorkToWatch · 03/09/2024 12:09

@itsmabeline depends on the sex surely?! Some sex is hours long and sweaty and all that jazz, others is a few minutes where one person does all the work?

personally I always wash down there after sex because I’m prone to post coital UTIs but I wouldn’t be worrying about a full on shower the next morning unless it had been a full on hot and sticky session.

Morning, I hate the idea of seeing people not smelling and looking as fresh as possible!

That made me laugh. Such sensitivity!

BeyondMyWits · 03/09/2024 12:11

Retired and currently wallpapering and painting bedrooms. I shower mid afternoon when that's done for the day. I find it quite refreshing to be all squeaky clean before dh and dd22 get home.

MagicianMoth · 03/09/2024 12:13

Absolutely definitely morning, even if I had a shower or a bath the night before I still get sweaty and yuck overnight, whether sex happens or not. I used to be of the opinion that I couldn't even go downstairs or have breakfast before washing, it was the absolute first thing I did, but having babies changed that...

Presumably if you do evening shower you are wearing a different pair of pyjamas every night as well which I wouldn't do. Or even sleeping in clean sheets every night.

redtrain123 · 03/09/2024 12:15

Evening.

Pory · 03/09/2024 12:17

If it’s a weekday and I wfh, I tend to shower at lunchtime. If I’m in the office I’ll shower in the mornings. Of a weekend it’s generally mornings after I’ve done whatever chores. But whenever it is, it has to be after I’ve pooped.

CultOfRamen · 03/09/2024 12:19

Summer is coming for us (Queensland) and il be back to showering at least 3 times a day soon enough.

I have enjoyed waking up in the morning and not needing a shower but sadly that’s not much longer on the cards. Packed the pyjamas away and bought new sleep underpants today 😅

Tumbleweed101 · 03/09/2024 12:20

Morning as tend to get really hot overnight. My teens are evening so we don't clash!

Fontainebleau007 · 03/09/2024 12:21

Evening. Though I will shower in the morning aswell if I feel sweaty, especially in the summer.

itsmabeline · 03/09/2024 12:24

@HardWorkToWatch @pinkspeakers I suppose yes low frequency showers and depends on the activity.

I was thinking once you're in the habit it's just automatic and becomes a nice routine.

NagathaCrispy · 03/09/2024 12:28

Definitely an evening shower person. I have horses which I have to tend to late afternoon every day, so I shower and change clothes when I get home from the stables. I definitely do not want to spend my evening having dinner with DH and relaxing in front of the TV (or whatever!) smelling of horse!!

Why would you presume that?

Stewandsocks · 03/09/2024 12:36

Night time for me - a hot shower is very relaxing so set me up for bed. Sometimes I treat myself to a bath instead.

If it's hot (generally only happens on holiday) I'll shower a few times a day to cool down and freshen up, but it's much more functional that a bed time shower.

SJ89SJ · 03/09/2024 12:37

I am a mum with 3 year old and a newborn. I shower whenever they're both asleep or with my husband. Any time is a luxury!

MagicianMoth · 03/09/2024 12:43

WhichWallpaper · 03/09/2024 12:30

Why would you presume that?

Because otherwise you are putting on dirty clothes on a clean body?

SingHosanna · 03/09/2024 12:45

Both usually, end of the day to wash away the day and in the morning to wake myself up

GameOfJones · 03/09/2024 12:46

Presumably if you do evening shower you are wearing a different pair of pyjamas every night as well which I wouldn't do.

This makes no sense to me. I'm an evening showerer, and therefore squeaky clean when I put my pyjamas on. Then I sleep in them. I wear knickers under my pyjamas so I'll often wear the same pair of pjs the next night (again putting on after my evening shower.)

If you shower in the morning you're getting into your pjs with all the dirt of the day on you, then wearing them all night, then presumably wearing them the second night too from your post.

For the PP saying about after sex I always wash after sex. Either a quick flannel wash or a two minute body shower if it was a hot and sweaty session. I could not just roll over and go to sleep and wait until the morning to wash.

Ultimately I just don't think it matters what time of day you do it if you're washing daily.

Sausagedognamedmash · 03/09/2024 12:47

It depends on the weather and the function of the shower. In the summer it's often both AM and PM to refresh after sleep and clean off the day when it's been hot. In the winter evening for hair wash days/everything shower, Morning otherwise.

WaltzingWaters · 03/09/2024 12:51

Evening. Unless I’ve done a morning workout.

IrisApfel · 03/09/2024 12:56

Both. Usually my morning shower is the 'proper shower' the evening one is a quick one.

SquatWeightaMinute · 03/09/2024 12:57

Both, evening to wash off gym sweat, morning to wash off sex/bed sweat.

Very rare to skip one or the other but if I haven't been to the gym and sex is off the cards I would skip evening.

I don’t think everyone necessarily wants to immediately scrub themselves clean of any possible trace of a really hot shag.
