So, one of the brothers has a divorce bill to pay. Apparently they have magically ‘got over’ their acrimony and will stage a come back - what an amazing coincidence! I still maintain:

a) they were a derivative, naive, band with absolutely rubbish lyrics.

b) they mercilessly exploited the hard man, brotherly feud shit in pursuit of loadsamoney

c) they should just go away and not inflict any more of their talent on us

d) I am cross with myself for even posting about this because it gives talentless white macho males the oxygen of publicity.

Discuss.

Personally, I think that sometimes it's best to leave memories of your youth where they are. My teenage son was begging me to go to see Guns N Roses with him a couple of years ago but I didn't want to. I was a big fan in my youth but I don't want to see overweight ageing rockstars who haven't quite got it any more - I'd rather remember them in their prime. Of course that's at least in part because I'm now an overweight middle aged woman who most definitely hasn't got anything any more and I don't really want to be reminded of that, but I think good memories should maybe stay that way.
I guess the Oasis crowd won't be quite as decrepit as me, but not far off so I hope they're not too disappointed if the band, and their own ability to party aren't what they were! I was never a fan (The Verve were far better in my opinion)and I wouldn't go to watch Oasis if they were paying me, but I bet plenty of fans will buy tickets. There are loads of artists who I think really should call it a day who are still touring and charging huge amounts for their tickets, so there's obviously a demand. This is no different really. I can't get excited but it doesn't bother me either.

HotHotChilli · 26/08/2024 03:52

Not really a fan but saw them at the MTV Asia awards in Singapore (around 2008) and they were quite good.

Thing is that when bands come back after a long time they tend not to be as good as they think they are. But if they are somewhere near me I would go and see them.

AuntieMarys · 26/08/2024 04:15

I'm a Noel fan and have seen his High Flying Birds several times. Definitely more talented than Liam " a man with a fork in a world of soup"

I'll be looking forward to the onstage punchup. Not that I'd be putting my hard earned cash into the divorce fund coffers anytime soon thank you, I'll wait for it to come up on YouTube, freebys

thisiswheretheseagullfliesaway · 26/08/2024 05:16

Whatever...

I wouldn't go to see them but loved them back in the day. Loved all sorts of music in my yoof and many of these songs became the soundtrack of that. I'm in my mid forties and feeling the nostalgia at the moment. Parents illness, teens, family deaths and the never ending series of disaster in the last few years has send me on a longing for simpler times. When life was still shiny exciting and full of possibilities instead of shitey and a complete grind with no hope if it improving.

Oh for the under 18s disco 10 Menthol, few beers on the bus and a curry chip on the way home. Singing Britpop with friends and my shoes in my hand.

leafybrew · 26/08/2024 05:54

They're not that bad Confused

They're better than U2 !!

People like different music - get over it.

End of discussion.

Skibidy · 26/08/2024 06:20

They will have fallen out by the start of the gigs, if not before 🙄 They had massive egos before, now they are solo, it will be even worse. Liams good but Noel isnt

Beezknees · 26/08/2024 06:26

LindorDoubleChoc · 26/08/2024 01:55

Yack is exactly the correct reaction. I cringe with embarrassment for them and anyone daft enough to part with a lot of money to go see them. How can they have got through all that money? Greedy sods.

All these old codgers wanting to re-live their youth! It's sad and pathetic at the same time. I say this as an old codger myself.

You could say this about any band though. Do you think the same about people who go to see the ABBA experience, or the many 80s bands that still tour and perform?

Dontcallmescarface · 26/08/2024 06:29

Rather see them than Taylor bloody Swift.

MrsGhastlyCrumb · 26/08/2024 06:44

Solidarity fist bump, OP. Never understood the appeal; there's plenty of bands I don't 'get', but who I can still recognise have talent and a passion for music. The fact that so many people hero worship these arrogant twats who have neither of those qualities has always been a puzzle to me.

MrsGhastlyCrumb · 26/08/2024 06:45

Saschka · 25/08/2024 22:08

If a load of 50 year old men want to take coke and shout “You’re my Wonderwall” at each other for 90mins, and Liam Gallagher can charge them each £250 for the opportunity to do so, who am I to stop them? 🤷‍♀️

😂

rainsofcastamere · 26/08/2024 06:55

Who is buying those tickets?

45 year olds with more money than sense? Their poor offspring who’ve grown up thinking this is music? Gawd.

@Messen

I follow Noel Gallagher gigs up and down the country because, well, people are allowed to enjoy all different kinds of music and bands and guess what his audiences are full of? The middle aged, the 30 year olds and yes, absolutely shit loads of young kids who cannot wait for the part of his set that plays the Oasis stuff.

I go to at least one music gig a week, all different kinds & whether you like it or not Oasis had and still do have a phenomenal impact on British music and a comeback tour would sell out in a milli-second!

Dontcallmescarface · 26/08/2024 07:04

So Op, who would you pay good money to see? It's only fair that you allow us the chance to belittle your musical taste don't you think?

FrothyCothy · 26/08/2024 08:03

@MrsAvocet they can be a little hit and miss but DH has seen GnR a couple of times in recent years and (some sound issues aside which was down to the venue) they were mostly great. Don’t deprive yourself or your son of seeing them if you get a chance!

the thing with the oasis gigs is a) I don’t think it will include any new material, it’ll be a greatest hits package which will mean b) it won’t matter how the band sounds because there’ll be 80,000 people singing every word over the top of them.

Pedallleur · 26/08/2024 08:19

They were of their time and rocked. They had it all. Great songs and attitude and went from pubs to Knebworth in 2 yrs all the while being what they were, 2 young men from Wythenshawe. Wish I had seen them then. But if they want to reform good luck. No one will be forcing anyone to go. An audience of men trying to relive their youth. Nightmare.

LutonBeds · 26/08/2024 08:23

RootToVictory · 25/08/2024 22:27

Shite 30 years ago, shite now. I saw them play twice and have never seen a band with more contempt for their fans.

This. One of the most overrated bands ever.

Lovewine1975 · 26/08/2024 08:47

Well me and DH will be going absolutely love there music, been waiting years for this!

Turnitoffitsboring · 26/08/2024 09:00

Why are so many people saying it will be an audience of *Men trying to relive their youth, did girls/women not like them?!!

@thisiswheretheseagullfliesaway Im
the same age and feeling the same recently..amazing times, oh to go back

Whatthefuck3456 · 26/08/2024 09:08

Lovewine1975 · 26/08/2024 08:47

Well me and DH will be going absolutely love there music, been waiting years for this!

Me and my husband too. I was ecstatic when I heard.

Sparae · 26/08/2024 09:10

Messen · 25/08/2024 22:08

to me they will always be the epitome of laddish, whiteboy, misogynist, capitalist culture. Grim.

This is such an odd take. You've just thrown together a list of random insults. Why misogynist? I can't think of a single lyric from Oasis that I would class as misogynistic, can you give an example? And why capitalist? They were a grassroots band, everything they had they created themselves.

conis · 26/08/2024 09:12

all the more tickets for me then!

HermioneWeasley · 26/08/2024 09:14

Don’t buy tickets then, I believe it is optional.

Georgieporgie29 · 26/08/2024 09:14

I saw Oasis in my teenage years at the Nynex Arena in Manchester, it was my first gig and I loved it.

I would love to watch them together again, however, after watching Liam in June and despite being seated getting absolutely piss wet through with people throwing their beer (definitely beer, I could smell it, maybe it was wee in the standing area) I am too old for that shit and so won’t be attending.

OldTinHat · 26/08/2024 09:18

I absolutely loathe OPs who end their post with 'discuss'. So arrogant.

TizerorFizz · 26/08/2024 09:19

I just heard someone say on the radio that seeing them scrap in the car park would be more fun!

They just need (want) the money! Cynical. Fans will relive their youth and the rest of us will keep our money in our pockets.
