So, one of the brothers has a divorce bill to pay. Apparently they have magically ‘got over’ their acrimony and will stage a come back - what an amazing coincidence! I still maintain:

a) they were a derivative, naive, band with absolutely rubbish lyrics.

b) they mercilessly exploited the hard man, brotherly feud shit in pursuit of loadsamoney

c) they should just go away and not inflict any more of their talent on us

d) I am cross with myself for even posting about this because it gives talentless white macho males the oxygen of publicity.

I think we just have to roll with it. Definitely maybe they will play some of their greatest hits. Don't look back in anger at the 90s. I doubt if cigarettes and alcohol will be allowed to be brought into the venues.

What did you expect from a rock and roll star? I think you’ll have to acquiesce and accept they’re familiar to millions so quite a few people will have been wanting to see them live forever.

Was just about to say it seems to be going semi official now rather than just unsubstantiated rumours.

Looks like Blossoms could well be the support.

I saw Oasis several times at the height of their fame, if the rumours are true & they are coming back I can see every date being a sellout. I just hope they get the headline slot at Glastonbury.

Oasis at Glasto would probably be great in all fairness.

Nat6999 · 26/08/2024 00:03

I just hope they have guests like Johnny Marr & Paul Weller on the list.

@RedToothBrush As I mentioned before the only album I bought was The Masterplan. Damn I still love the Masterplan single to this day. I guess I like morose songs sometimes! Plus Oasis were pals with OCS werent they. I saw OCS once and I was a big fan, again the music was more melancholy, perhaps suited me more than Oasis's more angry/whiny tracks. But what good bloody times! We never knew how lucky we were. The noughties wasnt bad, I saw Stereophonics and Editors but I must say the past 15 years or so I've lost intertest in guitar music. Sam Fender probably the only emerging talent on my radar.

The Masterplan is a great song.

lovelychops · 26/08/2024 00:05

Oasis owe the Real People A LOT look them up on you tube- then tell me Noel is a 'genius'. What a wanker

No, obviously I don’t think blur were the proletarian saviors of music. They are clearly very privileged white males. That doesn’t stop me thinking they are also very talented musicians.

oasis I object to because they are shitty musically and also portray a horrible boorish machismo I can’t stand. They’re literally marketising male twattishness for £££. I am from the same social class and geographical area as them so I sort of feel like I’m ok to slag em off ;)

according to you

Yeah, I saw them years abd years ago. I would definitely maybe go again.

TheMarzipanDildo · 26/08/2024 00:12

I don’t think you can say that Oasis are objectively bad while also saying that music taste is subjective.

Yes, obviously; every opinion is according to the person who has that opinion 🤷‍♀️. Others can have other opinions and that’s fine. There’s no harm in people sharing different views to yours, right?

My 16 year old can't wait. He thought he'd never get to see them live.

Same here 😁! My 16yr old daughter and her younger brother have really got into this type of music recently. She was quite anxious today, but this news perked her up. Looks like we’ll be trying to get tickets then (but I’ll be happy for my husband to take them!).

GellerYeller · 26/08/2024 00:34

I predict we’ll have a media storm of faux-feud ‘will they/won’t they’ hype till these gigs happen. Noel knows how to whip up publicity! I doubt the insurance would cover them if someone walks out in a strop these days though.

I will always associate Be Here Now with Princess Diana as it came out just before she died, and the slower songs were played on the radio a lot in the days following her death. It was almost impossible to get your hands on a copy in the shops where I lived. It was a hugely anticipated release.

Having seen Noel with his High Flying Birds, I can confirm there was a large percentage of parka people in bucket hats throwing ‘pints’ around the arena, which puts me off Oasis gigs. My teens love them though.

girlofsandwich · 26/08/2024 00:36

I think you hit the nail on the head OP when you said "music is subjective" 😂

I have brilliant memories of my brother playing Oasis in the car in the 90's. We both have wildly different tastes now, but I would absolutely go for the nostalgia!

Good discussion though OP it took me back😊

I don't thing you meant it to turn into a "my music taste is better than yours" thread, but it has and I feel like I"m back in school, what a joy😂

Putting · 26/08/2024 00:54

Well, this thread has inspired me to look out the old black and purple albums that everyone had when I was at university - nice trip down memory lane!

Funnywonder · 26/08/2024 00:59

They had a couple of catchy tunes. Not my scene, but fair play to them. Loads of bands reform and it's great for the fans. It certainly won't affect anyone who isn't a fan. I was more of a Blur girl back in the day - if I had to choose!

Nope.

I will not discuss this as there is nothing to discuss.

I agree with every single word you said.

Fraaahnces · 26/08/2024 01:35

Did they run out of drugs?

ConstantlyFuriosa · 26/08/2024 01:46

Damon, is that you?

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 26/08/2024 01:53

Never liked them when they together, couldn't be any less interested in them reforming. But any gigs will sell out in a nano second.

LindorDoubleChoc · 26/08/2024 01:55

Yack is exactly the correct reaction. I cringe with embarrassment for them and anyone daft enough to part with a lot of money to go see them. How can they have got through all that money? Greedy sods.

All these old codgers wanting to re-live their youth! It's sad and pathetic at the same time. I say this as an old codger myself.

JasonTindallsTan · 26/08/2024 01:58

I’ve seen them 4 times before and will be going to see them again this time around. Sad and pathetic perhaps. Or maybe not as sad and pathetic as ridiculing something particularly harmless that many many people enjoy 🙄
