ISIS have claimed responsibility for the attack

HelloMiss · 24/08/2024 20:31

Islamic state

Wasn't expecting to read that!

gingergran · 24/08/2024 20:44

@HelloMiss they also threatened to attack Taylor Swift concerts so it shouldn’t come as such a surprise

Janesygal · 24/08/2024 22:11

I hope security & intelligence is on it's highest level with Oktoberfest & all the Christmas markets accross Germany coming up...

The planned attack on the Taylor Swift concert in Vienna, the army chaplain stabbed in Ireland, the prison attack in Russia, the knife attack in Solingen and the attempted car-bombing of the synagogue in France.

I guess the globalise the intifada lot will be happy the intifada is being globalised.

Janesygal · 24/08/2024 23:10

And they'll be happy fear is spreading again..

ISIS have claimed the attack. At what point do we start rounding those known to be on the watch lists up?

My daughters were at Creamfields today and I have been on edge, this isn't how we should be living. We should be able to live our lives without fear of backwards thinking people.

Yes I know I'm being hysterical, my daughter was outside the Ariana concert. I'm just so sick of it!

Someone has been arrested.

It seems he was in a refugee centre. I hope Germany doesn’t have the riots we did.

What is happening in Europe? After a couple of years of relative calm terror has ramped up again..

EsmaCannonball · 24/08/2024 23:46

I really hate that extremist right and left politics is on the rise in Europe at the moment and, in the context of Germany, what that could mean for Ukraine. However, I am also sick of politicians being more concerned about the possible reaction to terrorist attacks than about the actual terrorist attacks. They prefer talking about the effect of the attacks because they seem so powerless in dealing with the cause. They'll have a vigil, sing a few songs, but they won't actually take any action to stop the next attack and the next. Anybody who thinks lighting a candle isn't going to cut it will be labelled a right-winger or an unsophisticated pleb.

I don't know but, about a year ago, there were serious intelligence reports that ISIS/IL had been routing terrorists through Afghanistan into Europe as asylum seekers, principally to Germany, France and Sweden.

Janesygal · 25/08/2024 00:08

I think the media in general have been very quick to tarnish what they refer to as the "far right" but hesitant in reporting the facts surrounding all the terror attacks. It is a problem in my opinion. I think that the rise of the far left & far right will not bode well in the not too distant future, politics needs to be much more centered

Agree with this actually. And one of the things politicians really need to get a serious grip of are the extreme left who have aligned their rhetoric with radical Islamist groups, and might as well be doing their propaganda for them.

You seem to be more concerned about the reaction over it rather than the knifings themselves tho

I mean it’s bad enough the media does this …

Oh I’m terribly sorry if I’m not writing down every emotion I feel just so you know that I’m feeling it.

People want a serious discussion on how to prevent these incidents from happening. Worry about how your political opponents are going to spin this is deeply unserious tbh can you even have a discussion about it without people clutching pearls and screaming racism, demanding they stay quiet?

Absolutely this. Our reaction to a horrific terrorist attack should not be ā€œoh I hope this doesn’t cause a rise in the far rightā€. By far the greatest threat and problem in Europe and the USA from terror and violence is Islamic extremist groups. We need to be concerned about that and not treat these attacks as if they are somehow some sort of natural phenomenon.

Islamic extremist terrorists again. They’re not always men - the one who blew up the Sbarro pizza restaurant in Tel Aviv was a woman who now lives a charmed life in Jordan. They have refused her extradition to the USA despite her being a mass murderer.

Yes agree with you both. This feeling of letting it wash over us with platitudes and candles isn't going to cut it. That's why part of the electorate is shifting. Tackle the cause not the effect
