The vile Katie Hopkins has suddenly started saying, several times, “This is just MY opinion. I’m not telling you what to think.” She’s also posting lots of silly ‘make fun of the Australian dancer’ type of stuff.

How she’s not been arrested for some of the things she was posting a couple of weeks ago I’ll never know. Hideous hideous person.

I suspect lawyers have already advised these people this isn't the consequence-swerving move they think it is. I'm sure if it was, cleverer slimeballs would have cottoned on long ago.

Also - in a classic display of how stupidity works - all these little disclaimers are doing is proving that hitting right wing scumbags with prison sentences of years really is hammering a message home. AS a few posters on this thread have noted, ordinary people who aren't hatemongers don't need these billets doux

Thanks, @DuncinToffee , I feel a bit mauled by fate lately!

I can only imagine Pointy 💐 the worrying doesn’t stop when they turn eighteen although reading some MN threads you should never ever do anything for them or worry about them once they are adults.
Hope a more settled time will prevail very soon.

A lot of right-wing commentators are posting statements like this on Twitter. I assume they're worried they're going to have their collars felt. I'm not sure whether or not this stands up as a defence.

After the fact? Nice try

HannibalHeyes · 20/08/2024 17:46

A quick answer to all these right wing idiots posting that "disclaimer".

Or a longer one here;

And that, as they say, should be that.

But we can't call them thick ...

itsgettingweird · 20/08/2024 18:34

Oh pointy I'm so sorry to hear both your bits of news. Such a lot to deal with.

itsgettingweird · 20/08/2024 18:35

Oh cardi sorry to hear about your DD too. But agree she sounds sensible.

itsgettingweird · 20/08/2024 18:42

I feel a bit bad posting mu good news now Blush but here it is.

Ds had his mobility car! It has a hand paddle adaption with indicator switch on it and a steering wheel ball (and a plate to cover the pedals if he's using it) so if his right leg isn't playing ball he can still drive it. It's automatic because his left foot doesn't work but the right does until it chooses not to!

Also after the excellent advice from pointy we have been to an independent mobility shop. For some reason he got a grant to cover the initial £300 for the car as well as a new car payment. So we have decided to put that towards a new custom made wheelchair and I said I'll help with rest from selling my old car as we aren't having (don't need) both.

(I'll make a note to check insurance cover on it!)

When your so use to everything being a fight re disability it feels such a relief when things feel like they are going right and you can get what's needed.

His current award is until May 2028 so we can keep car until then as adapted cars are always accepted for extended lease beyond 3 years.

DuncinToffee · 20/08/2024 18:48

That is lovely news itsgettingweird Smile

pointythings · 20/08/2024 18:50

@itsgettingweird that's brilliant and it's cheered me right up, thank you!

L1ttledrummergirl · 20/08/2024 19:30

@pointythings I'm sorry about the hard time your family is having at the moment. When ds1 separated from his (lovely) girlfriend after four years together, it was such a wrench. I still think about her and hope she's having a good life, you can't just change your feelings because their circumstances change, and I'm still quite fond of her.

Insurance companies use any excuse. Could their car insurance pay out as it was stolen from the car?

Australian dancer? I don't know who this is - what have I missed?

KH is awful. And she always posts her videos with her camera pointed at her throat so you can only see half her head. Maybe it's best that way.

DuncinToffee · 20/08/2024 20:01

Where is Farage?

Not in Clacton but back in the US apparently.

That's a good question about DS' partner's car insurance, but it works differently in the US - much faster for one, they paid out 8 days after the event and a new car has already been bought. DS is currently engaged in an argument with their partner's parents because they want to contribute towards the new chair (they are very lovely people by all accounts, I would love to meet them!) but he doesn't want to let them.

RafaistheKingofClay · 20/08/2024 20:21

I know the cases that have come up so far have only been the low hanging fruit because it’s easiest but so far most of the people who’ve been charged have posted stuff about burning down mosques or hotels with people inside. It’s not stuff that you could post by accident not knowing it was wrong. The more difficult cases are going to take longer, if there are any.

If I were the police, a Twitter search for the wording of that declaration and a search down the timelines of the people posting it would probably speed up my investigation.

itsgettingweird · 20/08/2024 20:33

Not a terrible argument to be having pointy Grin

But I understand where he's coming from and has obviously been raised very well with a good deal of resilience and facing things head on.

itsgettingweird · 20/08/2024 20:35

That's true.

But I'm laughing (despite the fact it isn't funny) at the idea of someone posting

"We aren't responsible for ..... blah blah blah"

Then reposting someone saying

"Burn down mosques blah blah blah"

And trying to claim they had no idea if what they were saying is true.

Like someone's direction can be confused with an opinion

These people are thicker than they let on 🤦‍♀️

It's certainly not the worst argument. They are also fairly wealthy people. But DS really wants his independence and I completely get that. They'll work it out. Right now I'm more concerned about DD - she's the older, but she's never had to deal with relationship breakdown before because she has never had a relationship. DS had a bad breakup with his first partner and it's made him stronger and better; I can only hope this will be the case for DD too, but right now she's so, so sad. She and partner are going to have a serious conversation Sunday night and then on Monday either they're coming here together or I'm driving to Bristol to pick her and her stuff up.

itsgettingweird · 20/08/2024 21:05

Oh bless her. Life has a way of battering you at times. I really hope she manages to continue her masters somewhere and is able to focus on it.

pointythings · 20/08/2024 21:14

@itsgettingweird she's doing the masters online so can do it from anywhere - that anywhere could perfectly well be here, her room is ready for her. If the worst happens and they can't reach a compromise then she can come here, recover and work on a new direction.

itsgettingweird · 20/08/2024 21:33

That's a relief she can do it anywhere. Hope they manage to sort something out at the weekend.

What a worrying time you've had Flowers

TooBigForMyBoots · 20/08/2024 23:05

Ah @pointythings, hope things start looking up for yis soon.Brew

PickAChew · 20/08/2024 23:12

It absolutely is a wrench, @pointythings but it sounds like your DD has her head screwed on.

That breakdancer in the Olympics. Vile KH is always taking the piss out of someone.
