That looks good. Send them all over there, and then when they become hostages - "nope, we don't want them back anyway"...

Sadly, I don’t think any of them are daft enough to mean half the stuff they say (except Lozza, maybe). It’ll be the sorts of idiots they roused up into rioting who’ll think it’s a great idea and end up as cannon fodder on the front line.

The number of "anti-vaxxers" plotted against the number of vaccinations delivered proves that a certain %age were happy to preach but tying up their camel (so to speak).

HannibalHeyes · 20/08/2024 12:12

Yes, but the kind of people who would take them up on the offer are also not the kind of people we'd want back!

dontcallmelen · 20/08/2024 12:21

Happy belated birthday wishes for itsgettingweird ds.
oh those crumpets are perfection personified have no words for the GB disclaimer except wtf.
thank you for the Birmingham article very interesting reading.

BIossomtoes · 20/08/2024 12:38

Hope your boy had a fab birthday @itsgettingweird.

"Despite 15 years of asking BCC has been unable to explain why it's best-the-20th-century-can-offer portal has to be custom built from the ground up at a cost of several millions, when any number of off the shelf packages - some FOSS - could have provided 10x the functionality (and aesthetics) for a few hundred thousand."

This. Its such a big scandal that's cost this city dear, but it hardly gets talked about. Our local news, which should be all over this kind of stuff would rather report a 10 minute story about a sponsored walk.

Willowkins · 20/08/2024 12:50

No cat today as I'm away for a few days (oldest DC left at home with Blanket to make sure she doesn't miss us at all too much) so I'm offering these flowers instead.

Random Nosey Cat as tax. Strolled up, bold as brass, dog was incandescent and had to be quietly led away Grin

My mind is boggling at the Russian invitation. Is there a job attached, help to find housing?

A lot of right-wing commentators are posting statements like this on Twitter. I assume they're worried they're going to have their collars felt. I'm not sure whether or not this stands up as a defence.

itsgettingweird · 20/08/2024 14:26

Yeah I'm not sure how much "I re tweeted someone's racist comment without knowing if it was true or not - oh and without realising it was racist" stands up too much as a defence!

itsgettingweird · 20/08/2024 14:26

If you aren't sure - don't post it!

It's hardly rocket science

SerendipityJane · 20/08/2024 14:31

I suspect that far from being the freeman of the land magic wand these bellends think it is, these "statements" will be used in any court case as prior knowledge.

itsgettingweird · 20/08/2024 14:37

Oh good angle serendipity. A bit like we know we'll post things that will be taken that way sort of pre defence.

Makes sense - I've needed felt I've needed to put such a disclaimer on my SM because I know not to and I wouldn't post anything that could be offensive or worse still illegal!

Jason118 · 20/08/2024 14:55

Belated dog tax - in US at moment with work, boy is it weird over here! Keith is waiting for the ball to move so he can chase it; he's an idiot.

It's basically a "freeman of the land" signal that the poster has fuck all critical thinking skills and therefore nothing of note to say on anything. Quite a time saver as it happens.

Best be careful where you mention that. There are some posters on some threads who would be fuming at the censorship of being ignored like that.

itsgettingweird · 20/08/2024 15:25

There's a whole subset of MN who will internally combust if this government turns out to be good 😂

Today on conspiracy X, useful idiots are sharing an advert for gullible followers to become Russian hostages (sorry, "escape Western liberal ideals"). Although if this lot want to volunteer, maybe we should let them?

ICYMI, Vladimir Putin is inviting foreigners to spend 3 months in a Russian jail, until he needs to trade them for a mass murderer held by the west. Sorry, enjoy "safe haven" on a 3 month visa in a country "where traditional values reign supreme".

The useful idiots here including Lozza and Alex Jones. Hopefully they may feel the need to bit their money where their mouth is and leave the UK. Be a bit of a pity to have to exchange them in a hostage exchange.

Wow, can we petition for special rendition for people we think would especially benefit from this opportunity? I'm drawing up a list ...

pointythings · 20/08/2024 15:58

I think they're already combusting. I'm finding it so, so hard not to poste a juicy bunch of grapes GIF every time.

Meanwhile in other news, don't get wheelchair insurance if you're going to the US or Canada. They won't pay out, it's in their policies. We got stung, and yes - they all do it. A very few annual travel policies cover wheelchairs there, but not many - and DS didn't read the whole policy (I know) because we both thought you could insure wheelchairs. We're splitting the cost.

And DD looks like splitting up with her partner after not quite 3 months living together because they are incompatible on housework. She's so sad. I have told her she can always come home and have time to finish her Masters and then job hunt.

cardibach · 20/08/2024 16:04

Oh that’s all a bit shit @pointythings
My DD has just broken up with her partner of about 7 years. They bought a house together in lockdown, so that’s a load of crap to sort. No drama, just realised they were just living separate lives. Quite proud of her for doing something about it before it got even more complicated/difficult to untangle.

DuncinToffee · 20/08/2024 16:10

Flowers for the Pointy family ]

pointythings · 20/08/2024 16:11

@cardibach, yeah, I suppose it's better that it's happened earlier rather than later, but it's her first serious relationship and she still loves her partner. And she's moved cities so has no support network, but also doesn't want to live back home. I reckon she'll go back to her uni town where my other DS lives and settle there.

DuncinToffee · 20/08/2024 16:11

😂Not selling enough tickets?

The vile Katie Hopkins has suddenly started saying, several times, “This is just MY opinion. I’m not telling you what to think.” She’s also posting lots of silly ‘make fun of the Australian dancer’ type of stuff.

How she’s not been arrested for some of the things she was posting a couple of weeks ago I’ll never know. Hideous hideous person.
