Some comments just make you very grateful for how nice everyone is generally on this group, and how beautiful all our cats are.

I don't have a cat. Or any pet. Not even beautiful flowers that have been posted (allergies)

But I love seeing everyone's pets and their fantastic facial expressions.

Even more so when they are linked to current affairs and added with captions of what they are saying/thinking.

Makes a change because Labour normally get held to a much much higher standard than the Tories.

Personally, I think he should have the whip removed and he needs the spotlight shone on him too make sure he makes good with his promises.

Very fair.

Although if your party and its supporters claim the moral high ground you must really be held to it. I have contempt for socially moralising Tories - back to basics and all that - but I like to be consistent.

So I also have thoroughgoing contempt for Labour supporters who decry bad landlords (believe me, I fucking hate BTL and other private landlords, for all sorts of reasons) but who defend some Rachmanite Labour MP just because he’s Labour.

I don't accept that " all politicians are low-down, arrogant, narcissistic control freak, dishonest manipulators", sure, some are, but the basically decent ones that just plod along doing their jobs competently and representing their constituents, don't make headlines like their bombastic counterparts.

Agree.

We had a Tory councillor for years. He was my sociology lecturer in uni!
He was bloody fantastic. Couldn't fault him. No scandal. Genuinely nice guy doing what he felt best for everyone

Then I have Braverman as an MP. Yep - that's about all I need to say on that!

Point of order, it appears I misspelled Mr. Athwals name. I apologise for any discourtesy that may have been perceived.

He won’t mind. You’ve stuck up for him with aplomb.

His agent might have a different view about where you put the blame though.

DuncinToffee · 03/09/2024 19:20

It will take time to adjust to the indefensible not being defended

Well it will be a Latinised version from some form of Indian script anyway. So what letters you use to get the sounds are a little up for grabs. Someone did briefly try to explain how Hindi and Guajarati writing differs. I may possibly have fallen asleep. I mean we English have a hard enough time with our Celtic chums. And I could literally walk to Wales and not get my feet wet.

However generally it's good form to use what a person presents you with.

Righty-hoo. Not sure I get your meaning, but it was at least civil, for this thread. So thank you.

That's one cute kitten @Alwaystired94. I love the paws.😍

Just awful. Poor, desperate people.

Also the 80 year old man allegedly killed by 5 children aged 14 or under. Some days the news is too much to bear.

I may also have been hallucinating about posts suggesting that his agent is the likely culprit. I doubt it though.

But no matter. I’m enjoying popping in now and again and keeping you all on your toes.

And none of the cats are anything like as beautiful as mine.

I think you'll find I said it's east to blame a 3rd party if you don't check and suggested he gets the rollicking of all rollickings and if he doesn't sort pronto gets the whip withdrawn. Perhaps you should read more closely instead of making assumptions about what people say.

Zonder · 03/09/2024 19:40

That's just so sad.

countrygirl99 · 03/09/2024 19:44

Actually @Rummly I think there are good and bad people in all the major parties. Our old Tory MP was one of the good ones but Johnson forced him out.

Piggywaspushed · 03/09/2024 19:45

The aforementioned AB. Buys his papers in my local shop.

But that's not their MO. They like to take something out of context and try and use it to bash people that they have decided to shoehorn into their preferred pigeonhole.

It's standard bad faith "engagement". Maybe slightly more subtle than we've seen on some other threads...

bombastix · 03/09/2024 19:52

Two posters have come back and defended their comments about the Labour slum landlord. Each one has stood up for their comments. Which I respect.

On other threads I see posters changing their p.o.v. quite regularly. Which is their bad faith.

Do you think Labour politicians, or even just left-wing politicians- are generally - not in every case - better than other politicians? Less back-stabbing, less dishonest, less power-mad, less self-interested etc etc?

Do you think left-wing voters are more moral than others?

By definition they are less self-interested than those on the right. The fundamental belief of the left is collectivism and the right is individualism.

Or maybe a heckler at the back, the sort who want to remind the assembled that there are actually other points of view and some inconvenient facts?

When they're already worse for wear!

Always cute kitten 😻

That's such sad news about those who lost their lives at sea. It's so tragic when they've survived all they have to get to safety and fall at the last hurdle. Sad

And that story of the 14yos and the 80yo man Angry I'm really worried this will become so much the norm we'll become desensitised to it. We need to keep saying this is wrong. And do something for the children in this country to give them hope. So many disenfranchised teens who think violence is the answer. So violent too young. It's depressing, sad, disgusting and frustrating all rolled into one big mess.

A somewhat over inflated opinion of your contributions there...
