We all say we have the best and most beautiful cats or dogs and not one of us is wrong.

That was me. And I stand by it. So far to be proven true.

The agents are free to rebut the accusations against them, when they get back to the office. But until then the ball is in their court as Mr. Atwal has publicly stated he has dispensed with their services.

We could of course insist that the buck stops with Mr Atwal. However that would require questions to be asked of all the Tory MPs who dodged accountability by claiming "a big boy did it an ran away".

I'm not thrilled to find Labour apparently aspiring to the troughs of the tory years (nadir, if you will). However I also possess "Janes Razor" - which dictates that it's not if someone fucks up, because everyone does (it's a corollary of "Houses Law" which is Everyone Lies). It's how you deal with it. Which is why despite having run ins with Amazon, their exemplary customer service has kept me as a customer.

(I am guessing the agents will already have failed the test, btw).

My, isn't this fun ?

Well, yes, it is fun. It’s fun when the Tories get shown up for being liars and wrong ‘uns, and the Libs, the SNP…and Labour. I prefer Labour scandal because I’m a Tory, but you have to take the rough with the smooth.

The party in power should get the most attention.

I really can’t see anything I’ve said on this thread that should have excited the potty mouth abuse sent my way (although TBF she apologised generally, though not to me directly).

It’s politics. You lot may not accept it, but all politicians are low-down, arrogant, narcissistic control freak, dishonest manipulators, even - and no less - Labour ones.

DuncinToffee · 03/09/2024 18:26

Some more than others, it is going to take someone special to outdo Johnson

InMySpareTime · 03/09/2024 18:26

I don't accept that " all politicians are low-down, arrogant, narcissistic control freak, dishonest manipulators", sure, some are, but the basically decent ones that just plod along doing their jobs competently and representing their constituents, don't make headlines like their bombastic counterparts.

Where does it say on this or any other of the threads that we don't accept it?

There are ways to discuss things without digging at other posters, whatever your political affiliation.

I may disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it

... as said by Evelyn Beatrice Hall (and not Voltaire as many believe).

Which is the case here. But surely you can express your views and opinions in a more pleasant way?

cardibach · 03/09/2024 18:27

Quite @InMySpareTime Tory voters are desperate for them to be ‘all the same’ but they aren’t.

Piggywaspushed · 03/09/2024 18:28

Not a parting shot, sadly, it seems.

My next door MP is lovely. None of the adjectives apply.

My new Tory one, no clue. Never met him, or heard from him in any form. This may, however, be better than Dorries.

BIWI · 03/09/2024 18:29

I'd actually go as far to say that I don't believe all Tory politicians are as unpleasant as you'd paint them @Rummly. Despite how much I despite the recent government.

How has anything I’ve said been unpleasant? At least as measured by the responses I’ve had?

Yeah, they really are.

For the poster who said you’d have to go a long way to match Johnson, I do think Blair and Campbell (as Blair’s factotum) are unbeatable.

Really? They broke the law, lied to the queen and partied in lockdown did they?
I know you refer to the war, but it’s worth remembering there’s been more than one investigation proving it wasn’t actually illegal (though I disagreed with it) plus it was happening with or without us. The YS supplied about 90% of troops and equipment.

Totally agree. It's just lazy to say they're all as bad as each other.

bombastix · 03/09/2024 18:40

I think the point about Blair is he got re-elected! I suppose we will never know if Johnson would have been after 2019. Once there is a more level headed assessment of him I do wonder; to me, he failed because it was baked in from the start. A great campaigning force but not a visionary leader. A man who ran to the front of a crowd and claimed to be charge. Blair, arguably too far the other way.

Do you think Labour politicians, or even just left-wing politicians- are generally - not in every case - better than other politicians? Less back-stabbing, less dishonest, less power-mad, less self-interested etc etc?

Do you think left-wing voters are more moral than others?

DuncinToffee · 03/09/2024 18:45

It does feel like an admittance of how bad the 2019 influx was.

bombastix · 03/09/2024 18:45

Goodness; please don’t work this thread into a purity spiral argument. That really is bad faith posting if so, @Rummly

Hopefully you may disagree on the means of managing society or the country, not morality

I have plenty of views on morality and decency in politics. But I don’t accept for a second that the (centre) left has any better claim to it than the (centre) right in this country.

A bad faith argument would be something altogether different.

You're quite ridiculously trying to shoehorn your own ideas onto people in this thread.

I think that on the right and left you get rubbish, immoral money grabbing politicians and you also get decent, moral people who want to serve their constituency and the country.

However I think in recent times the proportion of decent MPs in the Tory party has been pretty low.

Now why don't you stop trying to make our words say things they don't?

Piggywaspushed · 03/09/2024 18:54

The moderate Tories, like, for example, Alistair Burt got kicked out of the current Tory Party by Johnson and co. I struggle to think of one now.

I only pointed out, in the last few posts, that the biggest landlord in the House of Commons who has apparently rented out slum housing is a Labour MP.

I don’t think that absolves the last government’s incompetence and wrongdoing. But then I also think it’s a salutary reminder that all governing parties are full of doubtful characters.

What makes me laugh the most is the defence of Mr Athwal on this thread. Could you imagine if he’d been a Tory!!

BustingBaoBun · 03/09/2024 19:04

Makes a change because Labour normally get held to a much much higher standard than the Tories.

Personally, I think he should have the whip removed and he needs the spotlight shone on him too make sure he makes good with his promises.

itsgettingweird · 03/09/2024 19:07

pandora agree. I didn't see anyone on here thinking being a slum landlord was acceptable.

Although I'm not sure how people form one LA are getting HB from another. That doesn't ring true? You apply for HB from the council you live in if on the old tax credits system and if on UC it all comes through one payment and I think it can be paid direct to landlord?

You're quite selective in your reading. Plenty of people on this thread didn't defend him and said how disappointed they were. However we are also trying to be fair and it does seem it was the agent not him, but that we need to wait and see if he actually puts things right.

That's hardly defending him no matter what. So do try and read what we say. Or give up and clear off.
