This is actually the way it used to be! You did not leak Budget measures.

I mean the Tories pretty much gave up on that, but the expectation was silence until the day…

Let the tory media waste newsprint discussing their "theories". There's only so much space they can devote to that before that can't cover the much more important story of the Tory leadership contest.

I think this is the "GBNews approach". Treat them like the comics they are.

Yes, certain media outlets have got used to being fed all the budget details in advance.

I doubt the OBR have even completed their reports as yet.

Sadly my cat allergy does not permit the ownership of cute kittens.

pointythings · 03/09/2024 14:48

That's an adorable kitten.

Surely before that they’d means test child benefit more thoroughly? Although id lose more I would find it fairer to lose child benefit than the council tax discount. One person obviously uses less council services than two+

Yes, and people need to remember that a single adult gets 25% discount (not half).

And a household with more than 2 adults doesn't pay more - but will produce more waste, use more services etc.

So if they were to scrap single discount (doubt they will) there is argument to have set amount for 1/2 adults and then add more for more adults.
That would certainly stop HMOs from overcrowding.

I actually like that they aren't.

I would love when the Ned get comes out of all the frothing comes to nothing and they have to print positive news rather than printing speculation or "u turns".

Sounds suspiciously like poll tax to me and some of us remember how well that went.

Oh that gorgeous kitten!

All good points.

I wonder if Jas Athwal MP has a view about this? You know the chap, new Labour MP, biggest landlord in the commons, reported as having let out his properties with mould and ant infestations - and being in breach of regulations he brought in himself when leader of Redbridge Council? Oh and “dirty communal areas, faulty lights, loose fire alarms” - BBC article. And I believe, but I may be wrong, that he does let to those on housing benefits and only refused people benefiting via Redbridge Council because that would have been “a conflict of interest”.

But I’ve seen the previous posts about how it’s likely to have been his agent’s fault, not his. Because obviously he’s a Labour MP and therefore beyond reproach.

So all’s well. 👍

(Interestingly, Mr Athwal got into a bit of a pickle over the contest for Ilford South with a left-wing Labourite (and former boyfriend of Angela Rayner) for the seat that Athwal subsequently won! Who’d have thought such dilemmas and intrigues could emerge within the Labour Party?)

I must have been hallucinating the posts on this thread condemning Athwal for being a slum landlord.

I also must have hallucinated the very valid criticism of the seeming lack of rigour in the Labour selection process that led to Athwal being selected. I think that post was by SerendipityJane

But carry on lying about us if it gives you a thrill.

SerendipityJane · 03/09/2024 17:47

Someone call my name ?

Not really into personal attacks, but you reach a stage when it's clear some posters are cosplaying being thick.

Rummly · 03/09/2024 17:49

I may also have been hallucinating about posts suggesting that his agent is the likely culprit. I doubt it though.

But no matter. I’m enjoying popping in now and again and keeping you all on your toes.

And none of the cats are anything like as beautiful as mine.

That was me. And I stand by it. So far to be proven true.

The agents are free to rebut the accusations against them, when they get back to the office. But until then the ball is in their court as Mr. Atwal has publicly stated he has dispensed with their services.

We could of course insist that the buck stops with Mr Atwal. However that would require questions to be asked of all the Tory MPs who dodged accountability by claiming "a big boy did it an ran away".

I'm not thrilled to find Labour apparently aspiring to the troughs of the tory years (nadir, if you will). However I also possess "Janes Razor" - which dictates that it's not if someone fucks up, because everyone does (it's a corollary of "Houses Law" which is Everyone Lies). It's how you deal with it. Which is why despite having run ins with Amazon, their exemplary customer service has kept me as a customer.

(I am guessing the agents will already have failed the test, btw).

My, isn't this fun ?

Why the need for the sneery posts @Rummly? Why can't you just engage in conversation without doing that? Positive posts about kittens notwithstanding.

Let the mask slip...

ARTHUR: Bloody peasant!
DENNIS: Oh, what a give-away. Did you hear that? Did you hear that, eh? That's what I'm on about. Did you see him repressing me? You saw it, didn't you?

Piggywaspushed · 03/09/2024 18:14

When you start slagging off other people's cats you reveal your nastiness really. A snide parting shot is so very childish.

At least I hope it's a parting shot.

Zonder · 03/09/2024 18:18

Some comments just make you very grateful for how nice everyone is generally on this group, and how beautiful all our cats are.
