Hmm. Reading the report on the BBC news page, it's interesting that the complaints about Mr Athwal's properties are coming from Conservatives.

If he is at fault, then clearly he needs to be dealt with somehow - but this does feel like yet another concerted attempt to look for issues to smear Labour MPs with.

If this was today, I’d sleep with one eye open tonight, if I was you!

No it was last week
He's in the cattery with Tolkien and I'm in Malta. 😉

Yes but I think there was controversy when he was installed as the Labour candidate in the first place. I don't think Starmer can just ignore it though.

I think that’s Brazil that’s removing Elon Musk.

Oh no - it definitely shouldn't be ignored.

Yeah they are in some legal battle over posts on X. I heard they were removing the site from Brazil earlier today.

And there was us joking about it being removed from the U.K. a few weeks ago!

We might have another visitor incoming, someone is posting on the older threads Confused

BIWI · 31/08/2024 17:27

Yes, spotted them earlier!

<sets brain and typing fingers to 'ignore'>

Let’s just all absolutely ignore. They’ll get bored then and move on.

pointythings · 31/08/2024 17:33

I spotted them too, massively goady user name.

Well, Twitter.

Seems his Muskness doesn't like laws - in particular the one that Brazil has requiring Twitter to have legally accountable representatives in the country that can be held accountable.

Obviously losing Brazil (sounds like a crap game of Risk) means there goes that advertising revenue too.

Luckily the UK doesn't have laws like that*, otherwise he'd have to pull out of here top (which gives me an idea ...).

If we do, then who in the UK is criminally responsible for: Google, Apple, Microsoft, Facebook, Twitter and *Oasis ?

As soon as I read he was using an agent, I gave him a pass. If there are middlepersons that aren't useless parasites, I have yet to employ them.

If you think about it, all your "Ubers" and "AirBnBs" are really just extremely jumped up middlemen who subtract value from the overall proposition whilst counting the dollars. First in with the bill and last in with the service.

I vaguely recall a really on form John Prescott (following the usual pattern of MPs being excellent in opposition and shite in power) giving a stirring performance on QT (when it too was good) saying that if the Tories had their we we'd all be selling each other insurance as industry closed down.

There's still no one on my local Facebook group posting "Will management consult for cash".

Evenstar · 31/08/2024 17:56

I see Dorries has been commenting about Angela Rayner’s holiday activities, I think she should reflect on her own behaviour

We’re just outside Valletta. I love the walk round the coast from St Julian’s to the Sliema ferry, I imagine we’ll be doing it more than once. Hope you’re having a lovely time.

Zonder · 31/08/2024 20:36

I decided this morning that I'd take a break from MN for a bit because some threads just get me responding in a way I don't like. But then I thought I'd just pop back and check in here and look at the cat photos to remind myself of the good side of MN!

This and the nice thread about Bialetti coffee pots ☕ 🤣

L1ttledrummergirl · 31/08/2024 21:24

Not a lot to add to the above, it's nice that moving a photograph and having a dance while on holiday are the worst things the papers can come up with.

Jas Athwal might have been unaware of the state of his rentals, giving the benefit of the doubt. Now he knows, he has no excuse for not repairing to the highest standards and changing the agents. If the same tenants that have apparently been there for years, are still there in a year, and the properties are up to standard, then I'd believe him. If not, I'd think he's full of shit.

newnamethanks · 31/08/2024 23:07

15 rental properties in very poor condition with tenants frightened to complain lest evicted. I expect better from a Labour representative and better from whoever selected this person. Exploitation like this properly belongs to representatives of other parties. It's disgraceful and I don't believe his excuses.

Yes thank you. You have a great time too.
