Did she investigate any other relevant appointments made since 2019?

Or is this a brand new interest?

Obviously it's not a bad thing to ensure appointments are made appropriately - about bloody time! - but I'm intrigued to know whether similar rigour was applied to previous appointments.

This could get interesting. First civil service commissioner is going to audit recent appointments by exception under Labour. The first civil service commissioner being Gisella Stuart the head of vote leave who was given her job by Boris Johnson.

Strange xtweet that. Mr Usherwood mentions Johnson, Leave etc, but completely avoids saying that Gisela Stuart was a long-standing Labour MP.

Still, I very much doubt it’ll come to anything. Governments get their way on backscratching with appointments. Tory or Labour.

Notonthestairs · 30/08/2024 21:53

He mentions that in the tweets below.

Still interested to know whether previous appointments were reviewed.

Countrylife2002 · 30/08/2024 21:56

Jeez I checked out of MN for a bit and missed about 3 of these threads!

Are you suggesting that Gisela Stuart turned a blind eye until Starmer and Sue Gray came in? That she’s corrupt?

That would seem a reckless and risky implication to make. I haven’t seen anything to even raise the question.

Notonthestairs · 30/08/2024 22:04

I think I can ask whether previous appointments were investigated. That seems like a reasonable question to me.

Talking about private renting, you dont want Jas Athwal as your landlord

I'm delighted this has been highlighted. I can't be doing with slum landlords at the best of times nevermind allowing them in the government.

I hope his tenants get sorted.

Why don’t you do us all a favour and just fuck off then? There’s 1000s of threads you can post on.

Old timers on this thread - do the twats eventually get bored and sod off, or do I have to give up this thread? I don’t think my recently Covid ridden body can bear the stress. I try to avoid twats. I’m in my 60s and just can’t be bothered.

I've taken a week off mumsnet and I had to check whether @Rummly 's posts were from today or a week ago. It's like they never moved on.

I think I'm rubbish at my own advice here but the best thing is to ignore them and carry on with our usual discussions. Then even if they keep going we won't even notice. I try not to even read a post if I recognise certain names.

prettybird · 31/08/2024 07:47

I do the same @Zonder - just scroll past certain posters names once they've demonstrated that they don't post in good faith. They add nothing to constructive discussion.

It saves a lot of time and mental energy Grin

I think I need to be reminded of this and pull out of another thread I'm on. Sometimes you can end up just arguing pointlessly round in circles.

DuncinToffee · 31/08/2024 08:59

I am reading the Kamala Harris fundraising thread and that one has really made me wonder how that poster found those threads on MN and importantly why?
He has an agenda.

An apology is meaningless unless that happens.

prettybird · 31/08/2024 09:05

You sometimes just need to sit on your hands Grin

One person on another thread who I deliberately ignore even tries tagging me to provoke me. I stilll don't read his posts Wink

I've started doing that (mostly).

Noticed it on other threads too.

Pop on - post - pop off.

😂

BIossomtoes · 31/08/2024 09:30

Ignoring has worked pretty well on these threads in the past. I’ve changed my policy on personal attacks now, I used to just ignore them but these days I report every time

Thanks so much. I love this thread and it’s silly to allow myself to be driven off. Ignore is my new motto!

mibbelucieachwell · 31/08/2024 14:44

Is anyone else surprised that KS hasn't booted the slum landlord Labour mp out? Or did he genuinely not realise that his property agents were terrible? It's a very bad look for the Labour Party imo.

I’m really hoping he is booted out of the parliamentary party. It’s a terrible look and a huge and unnecessary distraction.

Not really. None of us were expecting that much of a change, surely ?

However it does suggest that whatever process Labour use for candidate selection - interviews, background checks (and background cheques) astrology or just plain throwing darts at a list - it surely needs an overhaul.

All of which needs to be said against a background of a viciously upset right wing media who - in case we have forgotten - pursued Angela Rayner to distraction over the non-story of the millennium.

Many years ago, my DM noted that Labour always seemed to get involved in financial scandals and Conservatives in sex scandals. This was when a certain Mr. Stonehouse was "doing a Perrin" ....
