Man rearranges pictures on wall doesn't quite sounds as exciting for a DM headline

I'd have preferred "man removes revolting gold wallpaper paid for in dodgy circumstances" Wink

I wonder what the evidence/modelling for the proposed ban on smoking in public outdoor spaces is?

And how it managed to miss vehicle emissions as a much bigger danger ?

Evidence based policy. What's that ?

The plan to stop diesel and petrol vehicle sales is the proposal there. Though I doubt it will happen in 2030.

itsgettingweird · 30/08/2024 12:19

I can’t imagine any pro-Labour supporters have ever been on any pro-Tory thread to express a view. 🙄

Your mistake Rummley is assuming we are all Labour supporters.

We are a mix of Labour, floating voters including having voted Tory before, and various other parties.

What we discuss is current politics. What we've agreed on is to be polite to each other.

The issue here is not criticism of Starmer. We can happily do that and a quick read if the thread will show mixed opinions of WFA and smoking ban etc.

But you're insulting posters and making accusations. Keep that to the main board if you need to stoop that low. Like many long running threads we are a group who agree to disagree without the need for insults or personal attacks.

Notonthestairs · 30/08/2024 12:23

Hang on. Rummly is correct. Right wing posters are famously self deprecating. I've never read one of their threads without a wry smile.

Maybe they just don't take 'public service' seriously enough.

BIossomtoes · 30/08/2024 12:23

Well said @itsgettingweird.

countrygirl99 · 30/08/2024 12:31

If the Tories had implemented broadly sensible Tory policies they might be in power still. But they didn't so they aren't.

itsgettingweird · 30/08/2024 12:34

Patrick Vallan e has said if he'd been asked to be a minister by the Tories he's have said no.

That's interesting (to me) after all the work he did during covid under them.

I can’t get worked up by Starmer being spooked by a painting of Thatcher and having to move it. It’s so obviously just a pathetic gesture to the dim Labour left.

I’d happily burn a portrait of Margaret Thatcher and am not in the slightest bit dim, but do have personal experience of the mining strikes in the north during the 1980s. Neither am I a lefty.

Must be a bit wearing though

Oh, the irony.

That’s a bit cheeky! What I actually said was “Must be a bit wearing though. You know, all this holier than thou stuff.”

You accidentally missed out the ‘holier than thou’.

I can see any irony.

Tory leader hopeful mel Stride tying himself in knots here

https://x.com/Haggis_UK/status/1829425060836217194

Mel Stride says that banning smoking in pub gardens is a press against individual freedom, but Rishi Sunak wanting to ban smoking was not taking away people's freedoms because they've never been legally entitled to smoke..

Oh my Mel. Being his usual lovely self. Just reminding everyone that a weak Labour candidate almost overturned a 20,000 majority and lost by 61 votes. 61.

Ha, I said on page 1 this thread would be Labour sycophancy. 👍 Double-standards a-go-go.

Talking of double-standards, anyone remember Derry Irvine and his Pugin wallpaper? Here’s a reminder:

Why don’t you do us all a favour and just fuck off then? There’s 1000s of threads you can post on.

Old timers on this thread - do the twats eventually get bored and sod off, or do I have to give up this thread? I don’t think my recently Covid ridden body can bear the stress. I try to avoid twats. I’m in my 60s and just can’t be bothered.

@Apolloneuro Usually they pop up and troll for a while, then give up. Rinse and repeat.

Hope you feel better soon.

Thanks my love. My tolerance for smarmy pants winder uppers is at an all time low. It’s not the politics, it’s the attitude.

edited - apologies for my language on my previous post.

DuncinToffee · 30/08/2024 13:31

As Pandora says, they pop up now and again until they get bored. New name, same pattern.

bombastix · 30/08/2024 14:04

Usually so. Not every thread has to degenerate.

Aw for outdoor smoking; well sometimes I still smoke! But really, what a storm in a tea cup.

Same with pictures of Thatcher; all PMs decorate to their own taste.

This is small stuff, whereas really the big stuff like budget and tax on wealth is to come. Plus the reengagement with Europe. All encouraging. And feels very normal, despite media efforts

Here’s a cute kitten from the rescue I volunteer at ☺️

Thread 6 Starmer: We're going to need a bigger skip!
pointythings · 30/08/2024 14:11

I think that at the very least the unhappy Tory faithful could wait until the budget before they start slating the guys that beat them.

I'm not sure where I stand on the outdoor smoking ban - I intensely dislike the smell fo vapes, I'd rather have actual smoke outdoors, but there it is. As for the WFA reforms, I'd like to see a rethink based on what's going to happen to the price cap in October, but I do not want it to remain universal - it's about time everyone took a share of the fiscal troubles to come.

In terms of all the whining about portraits, free speech, VAT on school fees, KS' lack of showmanship - shut up, you lost.

PandoraSox · 30/08/2024 14:21

I think the WFA should be paid to all pensioners who receive some kind of benefit than than the state pension. AA, PIP, HB, council tax benefit.

Gorgeous kitten @evenstar . How do you resist taking them all home?

Evenstar · 30/08/2024 14:23

@PandoraSox with great difficulty! We have about 20 cats at any one time, all ages and some of the older ones stay a long time and you get very attached to them 😻

Terrible news. Rayner has been spotted at a rave in Ibiza.

Zonder · 30/08/2024 14:40

Rummly · 30/08/2024 10:11

You said she was “frightening”.

If seems very doubtful that Starmer’s moved the painting for aesthetic reasons. Paintings of Harold Wilson or Lord Palmerston aren’t any easier on the eye. Maybe he’ll put up a picture of The Green Lady or dogs playing poker.

As for ‘desperate’ ’criticisms’ of Starmer (another poster)…please.

I did. She was frightening to many. I doubt Starmer was frightened of her. Comprehension issue?

What a ridiculous comment. I don't think many of us are huge Starmer fans but most of us will defend him against stupid made up attacks.
