What do you do to keep up appearances?

My example is an odd one, but I bought a bottle of the Fairy Max Power washing up lid (the one with the amazing lid). Once empty, I filled up that same bottle with a cheaper alternative.

It’s much better in terms of practicality, but the bottle also looks nicer. 😁

Does anyone else do something like this? Or am I just crazy?

I'm another Illy canister reuser and only because I find the lid so much better/easier than on any other make.

Gladdened to hear I'm not alone!

Edited

Mine goes into a Rombouts tin with a best before date of 2016 stamped on the bottom. I'm thinking of replacing it with an Illy tin as the lid has gone a bit loose over the years. It lives in the cupboard though so not really keeping up appearances!

I don't think I'd choose to refill a Fairy Max Power bottle. They're the ones with the so-called 'ANTI-LEAK TECHNOLOGY', but I've not had one yet that doesn't bloody leak.

Nothing worse than notions 😂😂

Mine hasn't leaked.
My Mum uses them too snd they didn't leak for her either.

I haven’t experienced that at all! Maybe you got one out of a bad batch? Those bottles are a game changer!

Our fairy bottle leaks. Possibly because it’s stored on the worktop near a window in a south facing kitchen. It will be recycled once it’s empty.

Josephinesnapoleon · 20/08/2024 17:40

Mine also leak occasionally when I get them so usually put them standing the wrong way up. I don’t really get the excitement though, I don’t really care which way up the bottle stands, it’s in the washing up caddy anyway,

We moved into a new house a year ago and I am currently doing up the front yard on a mission to have the nicest looking house on the street. Admittedly, it's not a high bar.

I also buy nicer brand accessories on sale so my plain outfits look fancier. I like to think I do it as much for me as anyone else but I can't be sure!

We do the opposite - we have a nice house inside but deliberately let the front look run down so the neighbours are more likely to get burgled over us 😂

Nope, I've had quite a few and they've all leaked, which leaves a stain on the worktop. Like a previous poster, I now leave them the 'wrong' way up.

When I fart I look pointedly at the dog.

Not sure that's for this thread, but funny nonetheless 😆

How arrogant you must be to think that people actually give a damn what you do. Wake up, noone cares.

Well bearing in mind you’ve gone to all the trouble of reviving a 10 day old thread, apparently on the basis that we were all breathlessly waiting for your opinion, I’m not sure the OP is the one I’d call arrogant……

And it’s “no one”. Two words.

CalicoPusscat · 29/08/2024 11:37

@NavyTurtle perhaps people don't give a damn what you think!

lazyarse123 · 29/08/2024 11:44

I'm definitely not trying to impress. We went once to Waitrose because it was the only supermarket we're never been in. It was extortionate. Lovely food but not worth the expense anyway I bought a carrier and keep it in the car. Then we went to Aldi and DH picked up the Waitrose bag and I'm telling him "you can't take that in there we'll look like twats 😂". I think I'm doing it wrong.

I refill fancy hand wash bottles with aldi dupes

Startingagainandagain · 29/08/2024 11:56

Nothing.

One of the benefits of getting older is that I stopped caring about what people think of me...

Ilovecleaning · 29/08/2024 13:14

Aren’t some posters mega boring with their ‘I don’t care what people think..’ or ‘I don’t feel the need to pretend I’m something I’m not’ - God! Major yawn. Well, why bother posting then? It’s not a serious thread 🙄 It’s about human foibles FFS

My friend used to decant Tesco brandy into a very posh cognac bottle. And I love decanting cheap soap into fancy bottles 😀

BunnyLake · 29/08/2024 13:17

I get out of my dressing gown and into my day clothes if someone’s coming round.

I shave my ankle area if I’m wearing ankle grazer jeans.

I nod and smile (or frown) in all the right places even though I’m not at all interested in what someone is saying to me.

I do this with gin also. I have a fancy bottle and I decant Gordon’s into it. It started when I ran out of a bottle of Hendricks and rather than taking out the Gordon’s I just put in into the Hendricks. With a bit of cucumber and fever tree no one seemed to know the difference
