Blake Lively, RR & It Ends With Us drama

Have NC because I freely admit that I have (limited) skin in this game, I am not entirely neutral.

This tells the story of the rift better than I could video here more about JB here JB info

Have worked for Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds in the UK, they are ...erm not my favourite slebs to work with. BL can be nasty to staff, her I'm all for women thing would be great, if she wasn't awful to them in reality. RR sometimes apologetically, always sides with BL, as his wife.
However, she does have 4 young DCs, so has spent much of the last decade pregnant, or post partum, which is enough to make anyone tired and therefore appear 'difficult'.

As I am senior in my role, stars have to treat me with some decency. Even so, the mask slips, I do everything I can to make their time in the UK as comfortable as possible, whilst placating the staff they upset, I will not work with them if I can avoid it.

Justin Baldoni directed It Ends With Us, I do not know JB.

Anti JB side (note there isn't much information about what JB has done wrong):
• He was difficult on set.
• He was acting and directing, diluting his ability to do both.
• He has hired a the firm of PR crisis manager who helped to improve Johnny Depp's image during the Amber Heard trial.
• JB has a pro 'good' men podcast called Man Enough, largely it is positive. Unfortunately he had Drake Bell on the podcast and did not question his accountability for previous SA.

Anti BL side:
• BL is trying to give the film a Barbie moment, encouraging audiences, for a film about DV, to wear florals.
• BL has objected to two things; she says JB fat-shamed her on set and, in one scene kissed her for too long (no suggestion that the kiss itself was inappropriate e.g. tongue).
• BL & RR made a cut of the film, which emphasises the rom-com of the story, rather than the DV.
• BL has corralled the author, Colleen Hoover and the cast to 'unfollow' JB on social media.
• RR rewrote a scene for the film without being asked by the director in doing so, RR broke the writer's strike.
• The cast have not been doing any press or standing on the red carpet at the premieres with JB.
• BL is using the film promo to also promote her new hair brand.

It may be that JB was a massive a-hole, or it may be that BL was a 'mean girl' and used her considerable power to influence the rest of the cast to be unpleasant to JB.
The truth could lie somewhere in the middle.

This is everything I know, I did not work on the film, or the promotion of it, so far.
I am able to agree that I have direct experience of seeing what BL and RR are like IRL, whereas I do not have the same experience of JB.
I'm prepared to accept that JB is the villain here.
I do not have any further information about this situation, if any comes my way I will, without breaking my contractual obligations, write about it here.

Yes, I agree they're probably all pre-agreed. But in Taylor's case there have been rumours for ages that her previously very hooded eyes have been operated on to widen them up cosmetically.

I don't care either way and I don't judge her if she had surgery, I just thought that casting a story about lasik into the world would be a really good way to cover up if there was a cosmetic reason for surgery.

@IcedPurple

*But Blake had already confirmed her pregnancy, hadn't she?

So congratulating her on it was just a nice gesture on the interviewer's part. It's not like she was speculating out loud.*

She didn't congratulate her on her pregnancy though, she commented on her body. There's a difference.

Huge stretch to find fault with the interviewer here. It was more of a power move on BL part to justify being a huge dickehead.

I bloody love Taylor (and I'm going to see her tomorrow!!)

But I definitely agree we only see what we're allowed to see of her.

There's a semi-recent clip of her (maybe in the last 5 years) of her talking to a TV host (is it Jimmy Fallon?) and he says oh your Mum sent us a video of you after your laser eye surgery. And she's like "what? my Mom did what? It's going to be shown on the television" or similar.

Anyway, it's a really sweet video of her bumbling around in a jumper and crying because she took the wrong banana or something. I'm sure the video is genuine.

I just don't believe - for one moment - that her Mum just sent a video in and her PR knew nothing about it and the cynic in me wondered if it was done deliberately to cover for some other kind of eye surgery in a kind of 'Taylor has been quite public about having lasik' kind of way' so there's nothing to see here

Like I say, I love Taylor I just think her image is very tightly managed.

Her reaction in that clip does seem really genuine. My thought after watching it was that she perhaps didn't know it had been submitted, but her PR team certainly did. There's no way her mum didn't run it past them. They probably thought it was a good idea to "spring" it on her, but TS will be well aware that her PR team would only submit material for interview that worked in her favour.

IOnlyNeedTheSilence · 16/08/2024 23:30

Taylor reads to me like someone who was never able to move on from her early teens when she had no friends; she never got the time and space to grow up and mature like the rest of us.

Like - when she started dating Travis Kelce, and would turn up at games dressed like Michele Pfeifer in Grease 2. It always screamed to me 'see, I finally got the captain of the football team'.

I think she does know that though from some of her lyrics. But hey, we all have our shit!

Yes, I think her reaction to the video being shown is genuine, too. Which makes it all the more eerie. I don't think she knew it would be happening but I think her PR did and agreed it would be a good move. Spooky to have decisions made about you like that.

stayathomer · 16/08/2024 23:41

If we were all followed about for a specified time do you not think at some stage someone would call us difficult or not always coming across great? Who is always coming across great, especially given, as you say she has 4 kids. Ridiculous

taylorswift1989 · 16/08/2024 23:51

I think Taylor Swift has Borderline Personality Disorder. I don't think she's a narcissist as so many claim, I think she's genuinely kind. But she is very all or nothing. You're her friend or her enemy.

I do think that level of fame must absolutely destroy you on some level.

Also think that her parents' close involvement in her career is an issue. I think that maybe the hundreds of editions of different records, shoddy merch etc, may be down to the business side of TS being in the control or under the influence of her dad. Pure speculation - I don't really know.

I have no opinion about Blake Lively but I loved Justin Baldoni in Jane the Virgin, so I'm on his side!

WhatdoIdoooooo · 16/08/2024 23:54

I don’t get the hype with Taylor Swift at all 🤷🏻‍♀️

Blake lively looks smug and up herself, like she’s trying to be funny. I don’t think she’s a good actress or particularly good looking either…just a bit meh 😬

TransformerZ · 17/08/2024 00:02

ThatChirpyLurker · 16/08/2024 16:17

Yes, Ryan Gosling went viral for his filler recently.

This needs a thread of it's own.
Why can't they tell when they go overboard?!

peanutbuttertoasty · 17/08/2024 00:07

Not RTFT but to be honest Taylor Swift and her coven of supermodels has always given me nothing but mean girl vibes. She comes over as totally inauthentic to me, but that’s just my opinion.

Deadringer · 17/08/2024 00:25

Dh's friend worked on a movie with Blake Lively and said she was lovely to him, he is basically a nobody and she had no reason to be nice to him. I don't really have an opinion on them as a couple or on the movie but I thought the book was a bit shit, yes it has a serious side with the domestic abuse storyline, but aside from that it is very Mills and Boone imo, and a bit rubbish.

It's RR who has the booze business (Aviation Gin) - her business is alcohol-free

I was ambivalent towards her until i saw that 2016 interview yesterday. It made me so uncomfortable, I don't care whether she was put off by the innocuous comment (congratulating her on her pregnancy). It strikes me as looking for offence or to make a point where none exists. Likewise, the question about costumes was relevant because the film was a period piece with great costumes apparently (20's/30's I believe). Her career has shown her enjoying and experimenting with fashion, so it's not too much of a reach to think you'd have found common ground in asking her a question about something she seems interested in.

Even if those things caused her offence, to deliberately treat another person that way, to have your body language and manner exclude the person doing their job of interviewing you, was straight out of a school bully playbook.

And those saying she doesn't have to be nice, yes she bloody does, we all do. One of the big things wrong with the world these days is that there is some badge of honour to 'tell it like it is'. In any walk of life or job, that's just rudeness, and calling it out isn't anti-feminist (I call men out for being a dick too)

Agree with this. When your job is literally playing dress up it is not bizarre to be asked about your costumes! Ridiculous to take offence at a question about on-screen clothing!!

I get the impression that TS was born into a very rich family, at school clearly extremely intelligent, very beautiful but it doesn’t sound like she was in the A stream socially. She’s clearly incredibly driven. I’m not trying to justify bullying but I think a lot of young insecure teenagers might not relate to TS at all as a peer in their school year at all. Comments from later peers suggest further up in school she wasn’t disliked, she just wasn’t a cool kid. Now she is the alpha kid in the playground, as a PP said above, the cool kids like BL want to be in her gang.

A lot of her “relatability” now seems to tie back to “even someone as amazing as TS” having X experience. It seems to me that she wants to be the absolute best in whatever she does, to show she can top all those who might be competition - all the new versions of albums released when others are about to release an album and the “oh wow, I was on the way into the stadium and they told me it was a record crowd” and the 3+ hour concerts that are an endurance test when the shit hits the fan in her personal life. I doubt few artists out there could get close to pulling off such a phenomenal achievement, TS has set the bar incredibly high. And if it’s true that “Bad blood” was about Katy Perry poaching TS’s tour dancers, if I was one of those dancers and heard about the money paid to those on her current tour I think I’d be kicking myself.

”Who’s afraid of little old me” seemed too relate to the way her Interactions with the business in general are discussed, including Olivia Rodrigo and in particular the chat about the song “Vampire”. One of the TTPD songs has a similar name to an OR song and and I wondered if that was deliberate given the issues over OR’s first album. Perhaps not as it’s a common subject for a song but I wondered.

You don’t achieve that level of success and stay there for so long by accidental. She really is a mastermind.

PrestonHood121 · 17/08/2024 02:39

I liked her until her rumored affair with Ben Affleck (who I also dislike). Then all of a sudden her and RR were together and they now both annoy me. Plenty of blind item gossip sites allude to how badly this couple treat people…could be all made up of course.

hazandduck · 17/08/2024 04:29

alettermax · 16/08/2024 22:58

That’s what crossed my mind too. Could it be why she may have a difficult time taking about the DV side of the movie?
often times the charismatic charming guy is the one who hides a double identity and it does come as he’s trying too hard to be likeable

Watching how Blake deflects the heavier questions and is almost afraid to talk about DV and kind of has a “why are you asking me I have no experience of this!” response is actually kind of unsettling. RR has talked about how afraid his family were of his father before, including his mother. I sincerely hope there’s not more to this but you never know.

I can’t believe Blake was so inept at answering these questions, as other previous posters have shown it is pretty easy to come up with a safe stock reply about helplines and how touched she’d be by others feeling a connection to her character etc etc! She’s not new to this industry. It’s all very odd.

I was not surprised about that interview from 2016 as she has always given me a mean girl vibe. But that poor lady interviewing, anyone who has been the victim of this snide treatment could feel her pain.

Totally agree. Poorly written tripe. Weirdly, when I read it, long before Blake was cast as Lily, I imagined Ryle as Ryan Reynolds! He had his ‘voice.’

FloofPaws · 17/08/2024 05:55

HappyLittleNarwhal · 16/08/2024 15:28

I get major major creepy vibes from RR; he's unbelievably false, his ever so humble nice guy persona is just too much.

I think he's a different guy behind closed doors. Actually worries me for his wife.

He suffers from anxiety, I always thought he was putting on a funny guy to mask his anxieties, I also do this (but I'm not rich lol!)
BL comes across as a mean girl IMO and thick she owes her fame mainly to RR
No idea who JB is

NutellaEllaElla · 17/08/2024 07:06

God BL is getting a pasting on Instagram.

For those that don't know JB, if it's your thing, watch Jane the Virgin. It's a brilliant telenovela style comedy and he co stars. I am trying to find out where I can re watch it now. I bloody loved that show.

how would she deal with people wanting to address their own experiences that align with the film she's just been in, with her

How would you have responded to that?
What would a PR approved response have been?
Not being antagonistic, genuinely curious.
She can't say
Any woman can contact me on/via
Or
I'd be happy/grateful for any woman moved/touched by the film to speak to me in person, just come on up
That only leaves
I'd advise any woman suffering from DV or PTSD to contact Woman's Aid, do a Freedom Course etc but that doesn't answer the question asked or neatly sidestep it so she tried to (poorly I agree) defuse it with humour

I don’t work in PR, but I think the answer would be something like: “I wish I were the best person to talk to, but I haven’t been through DV before but I’d love to help. I’d direct them to X charities”.

Of course she doesn’t want a million random fans coming up to her asking for help, but that’s the sort of thing she should say. I agree she (badly) tried to diffuse it with humour as it was a weirdly phrased question!

I think the worst thing she’s done here is the 2016 interview. The rest just looks like bad media training and a lack of understanding of how to promote the film.

SemperIdem · 17/08/2024 08:19

BL is coming across as what she most likely is, a not overly bright woman in her late 30’s who has failed to understand that if you’re in the public eye, you live and die by social media reactions. She is out of touch. She has been in the public eye a long time, but not really consistently, I think she has been poorly advised on this press tour.

Skippingropes · 17/08/2024 08:34

Thinking about it, as a Gossip Girl stan I remember reading once it all wrapped that none of the cast really got along with her, makes sense!

hattimehead · 17/08/2024 08:34

I find with celebrities that rumour and hearsay is attached to them all and probably with little to no truth. If this thread was about Adele and her husband, it would be the same comments. It would be the same with Beyoncé. It is the same with the Beckhams etc etc.

People only find fault. The reality is we know very little.

Skippingropes · 17/08/2024 08:36

The reality is we know very little.

Well yes, people are mostly judging on her PR for this film which is very much purposefully in the public domain. Personally I'm not bothered what she's like as a person really, but starring in a film with a serious and sensitive subject matter and then treating it like this is awful- I'd not be running to see any of her future films (and no, she won't be bothered haha).

  1. great movie reference
  2. was a great look
  3. more on the topic of wardrobe: those saying BL was right to be snarky when asked about her character's costume and it's an offensive question and all "would you ask a male actor that"...I saw a clip recently where a male journalist asks Cate Blanchett how she felt about her character's leopard print coat. He's got an accent. She asks him to repeat it. I'm thinking "eek, she's going to pounce on him and pull him up"

Nope. Her face erupted into this huge grin and she delved right into the question and how it was right and she was full of excitement and joy discussing her character and interplay with wardrobe.

But Cate's got an Oscar; Blake's a classless halfwit.

What's wrong with a costume question? Isn't it a category in the Oscars? It has meaning.

lubl · 17/08/2024 10:00

never been a fan of RR, always seems in love with himself. BL never on my radar.
Watched the interview: wow, what a car crash.
Taylor Swift: insanely talented and worth every single dollar she earns and more. Has outclassed pretty much every other performer from her generation and before (and after, we'll see). I think she's got a lot of popular A list mates now (along with old friends from back home, who she writes about in songs) because she was the nerdy girl growing up and always wanted to be in the cool girl gang. That shit stays with you.

i'm in my fifties and clearly remember asking the popular gang at secondary school if I could join their group. They looked so beautiful and stylish and were so loved. They pretended to invite me into their group, before quickly admitting it was a joke and I wasn't welcome.
